ICYMI - My live review of Matt Costa, J.D. and the Straight Shot, and Matt Hartke was posted this morning.  Check it out HERE.

Hey, guess what! It is Friday.  We wrap up a busy but interesting week with a Featured Friday shuffle.  A couple of first listens and some cool tunes from some favorites.  Let's go!

"Rules" by David Cronenberg's Wife

First out of the gate today, we have a first listen to a track from the late 2018 release (The Octoberman Sequence) from UK anti-folk band David Cronenberg's Wife.  The band formed in 2004 and were one of earliest bands in the UK anti-folk movement.

"A Beautiful Light" by Rod Picott

Next up, we have another track from Rod Picott's forthcoming album Tell the Truth and Shame the Devil.  The song is critical of songs and art that tend to romanticize the plight of the working poor - casting the hard life in a beautiful light.  In delivering this message - Picott has written a beautiful song which I think is a fine bit of delicious irony. Picott is a true poet, and I think he is onto something special with this album.  It is due out July 19.

"When the Tide Turns" by Big Tide

Next up, another track from Sync or Swim by the UK band Big Tide. My shuffles have been digging this album, and so have I.

"Asunder" by Slowness

Next up, we have another track from Berths by San Francisco based drone pop band Slowness. A great sounding track which I enjoyed on my morning commute.

"John the Baptist was a Real Humdinger" by Jason Ringenberg

I think this is the third Jason Ringenberg song we've had this week - another standout track from his remarkable Stand Tall album. A rip-roaring and biblically accurate take on John the Baptist - the cousin of Jesus. It is so cool to see a  long-time musical hero re-emerge with such inspired and amazing new music.

"Paddle Boat" by Ernest Moon

Next up, we have our first listen to Ba-Jesus the new EP from Ernest Moon a Liverpool past band. Their description: Ernest moon is two lower order fancy pants from up north filling the gap between pretentious lyrical art and bog standard pop music... a bit of homemade cranberry sauce on your pie and chips.  Fun stuff. I'm digging it.

"Find My Way" by Jeff Mix and the Songhearts

Next up, we have another track from Lost Vegas Hiway - from new Nashville resident Jeff Mix and his band.  The album was released with an accompanying movie. Mix recently relocated from Los Vegas to Nashville.

"Cult" by Mouth Reader

We close things out for the day and the week with our third track in two days from Holographic Phase by Murfreesboro rockers Mouth Reader. A great bit of noise to get my work day started off right.
