It is the start of another week, and that means it is time for a Music City Monday shuffle...
As you may or may not know or remember, I have a massive playlist of Nashville music* past and present and every Monday, I hit shuffle on that playlist and see what comes up... here is what came up today.
*Music made by people who live or have lived in Nashville (whether or not the music itself was made in Nashville or before or after the person/band was based here).
Our recap of this week's Featured Friday picks up with songs 8-11
8. "The Truth - Vessels Remix" by I LIKE TRAINS
A remix of the lead track from Kompromat by I LIKE TRAINS fellow Leeds based artist Vessels.
9. "True Love, Pt. 3" by X
The long awaiting 3rd in the True Love series by X taken from the new compilation Xtras.
10. "Muscadine" by Amy Ray
New single from Indigo Girls' Amy Ray - written about the loss of her beloved dog. The song was produced by Brian Speiser and mixed by Bobby Tis - both of Tedeschi Trucks Band.
11. "Cold Men" by Eric Bolander
And, we close out this short segment with a song dedicated to the Blackjewel Mining Company workers and their protests from this Lexington, Kentucky singer-songwriter.
We pick up on our recap of this week's Featured Friday Playlist with songs number 8-11 (which somewhat falls outside of the normal scope of our Playlist- but that is the part of making the rules)...
8. "Letter to You" by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
We start this segment of music with a single from the forthcoming twentieth studio album by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The album was recorded live in the studio with no overdubs and features three tracks which were written prior to Springsteen's debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.
9. "Personality Crisis - Live Geneva" by Johnny Thunders
In conjunction with a newly released "Resurrected" version of Thunders third and final solo album comes this live version of the album culled from three different live recordings. Nashville fun fact: "Personality Crisis" is one of the very few cover songs I have ever heard Tim Carroll perform.
10. "Then Again" by Psychic Temple; The Dream Syndicate
Psychic Temple mastermind, Chris Schlarb teamed up with the recently resurrected Los Angeles band led by Steve Wynn to record the album Houses of the Holy. For reference - the previous four Psychic Temple albums were named I-IV. Those who know will understand.
11. "Bang Bang Boogie" by Bobby Royale
Based in Stockholm, Sweden - Bobby Royale - return with a single that is dripping with New Orleans with some modern flow on top. A great way to close out this segment of music.
I realized that I failed to include the Tornado Relief Resources in my blog post on Friday. This is an on-going need that likely will not be going away anytime soon. The need is far-reaching across the city and across the state. Communities, businesses, people are affected.
There have been and are going to be numerous benefits shows going on in the days and weeks to come. I wish I had the ability to link to everyone. For now, I will stick to the "Check Your Local Listings"
Some general things:
Double check before you donate. Unfortunately, there are scammers out there.
If you choose to volunteer, I recommend going through a organized effort - like Hands on Nashville. If you drive to one of the affected areas - be mindful of where you park - do not block roads - even if there appear closed at the time of your arrival.
If your home is damaged, don't make hasty decisions about seeing - again, there are vultures waiting to take advantage of the situation.
Give what you can, do what you can do, and don't feel guilty about what you can't do.
It does seem like the last 3 months or so have been filled with loss and difficulties. It does have an impact that can be or seem to be cumulative. A small difficulty can feel like it will do you in (following on the heels of bigger losses). So, again, a reminder to talk to someone - get help if you need it, and for goodness sake be good to yourself and to each other.
Tonight, is the celebration of life for David Olney. One of those losses, many of us have experienced. It is a "Celebration", and I intend to celebrate his life and his art - which moved me so much. But, it will likely also be another reminder of what we have all lost.
Now on to the Music City Monday Shuffle!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.
First of all, a huge thanks for making the 2019 WXNA Fall Pledge Drive a rousing success! We met and exceeded our goal!
It is Thanksgiving Week. I will be posting shuffles through Wednesday and then taking the rest of the week off for the holiday.
Let's get right into the shuffle. I think this week will be pretty laid back, but as always great music...

And we are back! Americana Fest 2019 is officially over. I had a blast. I don't have time for any sort of official recap, but suffice it to say, I didn't see everything I wanted to see, I missed some great events put on by great people, I overdid it and had to bail on some stuff for the sake on my self... But, I had the time of my life, got to meet some of my biggest musical heroes, caught up with out-of-town friends, watched by friends kick all sort of ass on stages big and small.
Despite my jokes throughout the week, I didn't pace myself and I crashed and burned by the end of the weekend, and you know what, next year, I will probably do the same thing.
Just a reminder, that you can still get your very own copy of my debut novel, The Drift. It is available via Amazon for just $9.99 (and it is PRIME eligible). It is also available in a Kindle edition. If you buy the paperback, you can get buy the Kindle Edition for just $0.99.
If you are in the Nashville area, I, right now, have eight unsold copies in my car. If you see me out and about (once I get over this cold I have) and you want a copy, let me know. I accept cash, Paypal, and Venmo.
If you are outside of Nashville and want to buy from me (and/or get an autographed copy), just shoot me a message. I will need to charge shipping.
Well, it's the beginning of another month of shuffle here at E2TG, and it is Monday. We have been doing Music City Monday for a while, but it has been within the last couple of months that I created the "Music City Monday" playlist on Spotify - just to feature a wider variety of great Nashville music of today and yesterday. Here's today's shuffle:
