Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Half Acre of Rock Mix (Trust Fund Hobo Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

First of all, a huge thanks for making the 2019 WXNA Fall Pledge Drive a rousing success!  We met and exceeded our goal!

It is Thanksgiving Week.  I will be posting shuffles through Wednesday and then taking the rest of the week off for the holiday.

Let's get right into the shuffle.  I think this week will be pretty laid back, but as always great music...

On Monday we shuffle tracks from the Music City Monday Spotify Playlist...

"Time" by Joanna Barbera

We start off with "Time" from the 2013 album Forget - by Joanna Barbera.  A great way kick off the week.
"Sad Eyes" by Josh Rouse

Next up, we have singer-songwriter Josh Rouse with a track from his 2004/2005 album called Nashville - which ended up being his swan song to music city before relocating to Spain. Josh Rouse just released a new holiday album.

"Burn" by Brett Ryan Stewart

Next up, we have a cover song from Brett Ryan Stewart - from his first covers collection (I think) Turn Turn (The Covers) - this is Stewart's take on a song written and originally recorded by Ray LaMontagne - on his debut album Trouble.

"Shoulder Deep in the Blues" by The Singing Butcher

First of all, The Singing Butcher (Timothy George) is an incredible songwriter who also happens to be a butcher at a popular East Nashville meat shop.  Second, I have no idea if there was any intent, but when this song title came up, I had an vision of George singing songs in the shop and introducing this song, and saying, "And speaking of shoulder, we are running a special on pork shoulder..."  Okay, it's probably just me- sorry.  Anyway, a great song - from his self-titled album.

"It's All Gonna Be OK" by Ron Gallo

For the second week in a row, the shuffle brings up a track from Stardust Birthday Party by Nashville by way of Philly band Ron Gallo.

"Worry Doll" by Jeremy Ivey

Next, we have our first official listen to The Dream and the Dreamer - the album (released September 2019) by East Nashville's own Jeremy Ivey. Ivey signed to ANTI- Records around the same time as Darrin Bradbury and the two friends a frequent collaborators released their albums a week apart.  Jeremy Ivey is one of our best songwriters.

"Strange Contradiction" by Will Payne Harrison

We have been featuring Will Payne Harrison's latest album Living With Ghosts, but this one goes back to his earlier release - East Nashville Blues.  The East Nashville (by way of Louisiana) singer-songwriter has emerged as an E2TG favorite and one the best around.

"Pillbox (Live)" by Ryan Sobb

Speaking of E2TG favorites.... Ryan Sobb is a incredible songwriter.  After living in Birmingham for some time, Sobb has established himself among local songwriters as a favorite and with this red hot three piece band - he has been kicking ass across the southeast.  Anticipating a new album sometime in 2020 (I hope).

"US Rte 49" by Paul Burch

I told Paul Burch one time that I though his album Meridian Rising was a great concept, well executed.  The album is a mythical biography of Jimmie Rodgers which tells speculative stories about different aspects of the singer's short and trouble life. US Rte 49 is a highway that runs from Piggott, Arkansas to Gulfport, Mississippi.  The intersection of highway 49 and highway 61 is said to be the "crossroads" where Robert Johnson made his deal with the devil.

"Everybody Knows" by Allen Thompson

And we close things out with one of my favorite Allen Thompson songs. From his album Salvation in the Ground.  A perfect ending for this Thanksgiving Week shuffle.
