Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Night Swimming Mix (Godflower Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

Fun night at The 5 Spot - with an early show featuring Sally Jaye, Stuffy Shmitt, and Bob Lewis and Megan Palmer. Some of the finest songwriters Nashville has to offer.  Then, $2 Tuesday with Grady Spencer, John Dennis, Derek Hoke, Mercury Blonde, and  Palm Palm.

Let's jump into the shuffle. It's Wednesday - time for a Wild Wednesday shuffle!

"Night Swimming" by Dentist

This is not a cover of the R.E.M. song, but an original and the title track by this New Jersey based band. Cool stuff.

"The Product" by Minutemen

From Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat - This D. Boon penned song features George Hurley on recorder. The album was recorded for $50 direct to two-track tape.

"Wrote It For You" by Adam Carroll
"South of Town" by Adam Carroll

A two-fer from Adam Carroll - first up, a track from the 2014 album, Let It Choose You.  The second track is the title track from Carroll's 1998 debut album.  These two songs back to back demonstrate the consistent greatness of Carroll's songs - as it was not immediately evident that there was some sixteen years between the two songs.

"Rupture III" by Cellista

Next up, the third of five "Ruptures" on the 2019 album Transfigurations. The "Ruptures" incorporate "found" voice recordings over experimental music. Really wonderful stuff.

"Sometimes"by J Mascis

Next up, a track from the 2018 album Elastic Days by Dinosaur Jr. front man J Mascis.

"Instead Of" by The Scrags

Next up, we have a track from Anything - the 2018 album by Swedish punk band The Scrags.

"Carousel of Stars" by Gary Daly

Next up, we have a lovely track from Gone From Here, by Gary Daly of the band China Crisis. The album was released in May of this year.

"Shimmer Lizard" by The Pull of Autumn

Next, we have yet another track from The Pull of Autumn. This one goes back to 2018 and the self-titled album by the band.

"Godflower" by Rayvon Pettis

And we close with 2018 E2TG Artist of the Year, Rayvon Pettis with a track from his Insureda.  Pettis is one of the most unique and best songwriters around.  I was talking to Darrin Bradbury a while back about his admiration for Rayvon's "mystical" approach to writing songs.
