Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook! *Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.
Got those post-Halloween, really tired, but it's Friday and not raining, but it's cold blues... not really... but all of those things are true except the blues part.. but it could happen...
Anyway, let's close out the week in style with a fine, fine Friday shuffle!
"Why We Work" by Joe Goodkin
First up, we have the first of two tracks from Paper Arrows - the new album from Chicago based singer-songwriter Joe Goodkin. We have been covering Goodkin's music for a bit, and I am digging the new album.
"Today" by Tombstones in Their Eyes
Another track from the forthcoming Maybe Someday album by this L.A. band. This track is not released, so check out an earlier song by the band in the video playlist. The album will be out next week, I believe.
"The Cubano" by The Lilliston Effect
Next up, another choice track from The Funky Turducken. As I said before, I always enjoy it when wonderful instrumental songs make it into our shuffles.
"Broke in Two" by Grant Farm
Next up, a nine minute song from Broke in Two by Boulder County, Colorado band Grant Farm. Love the sound of this band, and this is a great song.
"Our Boat At the End of the World" by Bill Bloomer
Next, we have what is actually our last track to feature from Bounty by E2TG favorite Bill Bloomer. A wonderful haunting song featuring vocals by Myshkin Warbler.
"Light Out" by Joe Goodkin
Our second track from Paper Arrows.
"Listen to the Band" by Medicine
Next up, a good reminder and an excellent song from Scarred for Life by Medicine. Medicine are shoegaze legends that originally formed in 1991 and who have more recently reunited.
"Post-Neurotic" by Joy Cleaner
Next up, we have a track from You're So Jaded by New Jersey power pop band, Joy Cleaner. Dig this song.
"Some Blues of My Own" by Tim Carroll
And we close with our first listen to the brand new album from East Nashville legend Tim Carroll. Originally from Indiana, Carroll played with a incarnation of the corn punk legends The Gizmos before relocating to New York and forming the alternative country band The Blue Chieftains. Carroll has been in Nashville for many years and has held down the Friday Happy Hour slot at The 5 Spot in East Nashville for many years. He is a prolific songwriter - which this album so quickly on the heels of Keepin' Time will show.
