Dennes Dale "D." Boon, who died at age 27 in 1985 would have been 62 years old today. The guitarist, singer, and songwriter with the legendary Minutemen was outspoken, innovative, and is greatly missed.
Double Nickels on the Dime remains a desert island disc for me and one I return to over and over.
The Long Haul
The COVID-19 news yesterday was sobering if not unexpected. The projected death tolls - some of which rely on drastic actions being taken - which in many places are not being taken a- are staggering.
Like many of you, I suspect, I feel myself growing restless even while knowing this period is just beginning. The great need, I feel, is compassion and care for our fellow man.
I will not put others at risk to relieve my boredom, restlessness, or to fulfill a want. When I go out, I will follow the guidelines not only for my own safety but mostly for the safety of others - including loved ones with whom I may come in contact.
Reach out by phone or electronically if you need help. The next two weeks, at least, are going to be bad and frightening. Hang in there. Talk about your fear and any other feelings with someone safe.

I'm a little pressed for time - so let's jump right into the shuffle. On Wednesday, we shuffle all the songs I currently have stored on my phone. This can be... well - let's just shuffle! You'll see...
We have arrived at Thursday. For the daily "theme" today, I decided upon the term, "Throwback Thursday"... honestly, I'm surprised no one has come up with this sooner.... I even came up with a hashtag (#tbt) for it. Clever aren't I?
I think the concept is pretty self-explanatory. I hope to show that music in the past was extremely diverse and varied - in spite of what "Classic Rock" stations may lead you to believe....
I find myself rushed again... so, let's get to this:
1. Jonquil Child by Tiffany Huggins Grant which we have been featuring songs off of for a few weeks has been released. Check it out HERE. I recommend it highly.
2. There is a great FREE SHOW in downtown Nashville today on 5th between Demonbreun and Korean Veterans. It is the CD Release show for the companion album to the Dylan, Cash, and the Nashville Cats exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Lots of cool folks including some of the players from the original classic recordings. Did I mention it is free? Details: HERE. Gates at 5:00, Music starts at 6:00
3. Later on tonight, Two Cow Garage are playing at the Hi Watt with Heathen Sons and Benchmarks. Benchmarks is the new moniker for Todd Farrell and the Dirty Birds. Should be a great show.
In the middle of posting this, I heard about the passing of Rock and Roll legend Bobby Keys. The long-time Rolling Stones saxophonist was a resident of Nashville at the time of his passing, and I had the great pleasure of seeing him and his band play a free lunch time show at the downtown Public Library in the summer of 2013. RIP Bobby Keys...
Greetings from Nashville. Back with a long set of music for today's shuffle. So, no more ado about nothing.... Shuffle will follow the.... Might as well.... Jump!
Easter Monday - Are you hopped up on sugar or is your blood sugar crashing today?
Reminder to vote - the poll is on the sidebar - Band of the Month for March. At last review, the kids from Illinois Northbrook Garage have a slight lead, but as we've learned in previous months, anything can happen. Remember, if you don't vote, you can't complain about the results (well technically you can complain but no one has to listen to you complain.
See above for the Amazon pages for the albums containing today's songs.
SONG #1 - Damn These Vampires is a track from The Mountain Goats 2011 Album, All Eternal Deck. The Mountain Goats have a new one set to be released this year.
SONG #2 - Peggy's Kitchen Wall is from Bruck Cockburn's 1984 masterpiece Stealing Fire which also includes If I Had a Rocket Launcher and Lovers in a Dangerous Time.
SONG #3 - Nashville Cat's is a cover of a Lovin' Spoonful song by Flatt and Scruggs which was released as a single in 1967.
BONUS SONG: Visite Du Vigile by Miles Davis comes from the Soundtrack to the 1958 Louis Malle film, the title of which can be translated as Elevator to the Gallows. Miles Davis recorded the album in Paris in 1957 - mostly improvised after a screening of the film.
