Well, it's a brand new year, and I already have some great stuff queued up to get 2014 off to a good beginning.  But, before we dive headlong into the new, there is some unfinished business - namely more 2013 favorites I wanted to offer up.  So today and tomorrow, I will wrap up the end of 2013 Mix and then Monday January 6 -  E2TG will kick off 2014 with a rousing start.

I've decided that the subtitle of this end of the year wrap-up should be: "If you think music sucked in 2013, then you were listening to the wrong music." 

I humbly offer #E2TG has your antidote to the bad music blues....

Set list from Royal Court of China Reunion Show 6/21/2013

So a longer than usual morning commute in three parts instead of the usual two, and tons of great music.  As usual, the Video Playlist at the end attempts to represent the songs in the mix - actual song when possible, alternate song or video if not possible.  Only one artist/song is not in the Playlist but more on that later.

"The Turning Quiet" by Joshua Worden (Soulful Pop)

 "Two Weeks on the Ocean" by James the Giant  (not represented on playlist 'cause I couldn't find any videos - debut self-titled EP and this song is the first "single" - Album due out next month - a song about his brother who was killed in Afghanistan. This one gave me goosebumps)

"Get Lucky" by Daft Punk feat. Pharell (Yeah!)

"Justice'nt Right" by Wheelchair Sports Camp (Yes! Very yes!)

 "Stuck" by Canopy Climbers (from their latest -  Miles)

"Forget It" by Royal Court of China (they did this one in the show Saturday night. A favorite from the self-titled record)

"The Ballad of Billy Polk" by The End Men (Hell yeah - The End Men back in the shuffle with a favorite from their latest, Play With Your Toys (ah who am I kidding their all favorites)

"Alex Chilton" by The Replacements (if this was all The Replacements had done, it would be enough to immortalize them... "I never go far, without a little Big Star")

"The Walking Dead" by Bella's Bartok (Um... Oh, yeah!)

 "Coming On a Black Day" by Stomacher (One of our favorites from the early days of this blog.  This song - hell this whole album and their subsequent release are brilliant.  This may still be my favorite Stomacher song)

"You've Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" Mr. Kind and Picture Atlantic (collab. featuring our friend Brian Bergeron's band Mr. Kind joining forces with San Jose band Picture Atlantic, to take on a Spoon song)

 "Psycho Therapy" by Ramones (First you try Psycho Therapy - from 1983s Subterranean Jungle)

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - Another Kind of Mix Mix

I decided to search through my collection and pull out some bands I've featured in the past, who I haven't had the chance to listen to for a while, and I added a couple into the Playlist from which I draw my daily mix.  Three songs by one of those artists came up in the Pre-Shuffle today. Kafka (aka Wayne Kafka) plays pretty awesome alternative music. I think in the year or so since I heard songs from his Mysterious Skin EP (which was released in 2010), I had forgotten just how good his music is.  "Jump Down" and "Don't Cry" were the first two songs in the Pre-Shuffle today, and another song "Run with the Buffalo" came up at the end of the Pre-shuffle. 

 

I've been listening to and digging on the new album by Nikki Sue and the Bad News, but today's track goes back, way back, all the way to 2012 and the title track to the Lower Places EP. 

Jake Miller's song "Steven" comes to my playlist via Amazon's Free Music from Rising Artists list for June. His album is called The Road Less Traveled. Maybe it's just me, but I think I expected a song by Jake Miller from an album called The Road Less Traveled to be countryish or Americanaish, but this is some pretty cool hip-hop.  

I last heard The High Score backing Mic Harrison - at least I assume this is the same The High Score.  In any event, the song is called "I Feel Bad for You" and yes, it does come from the current month's Feel Bad for You Mixtape.

Next up, I have another track from Wheelchair Sports Camp - namely the title track to the awesome Where We All Live EP. I seriously dig this band.

Our Pre-Shuffle closed just as I reached the parking lot with the aforementioned third Kafka song of the day.
