E2TG 12/3/2020 - The Home Stretch - Second Hand Nudes Mix (Clown School Dropout Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

So, this is how my mind works... I was first thinking about how annoying it is when someone keeps trying to convince you that you should like a particular artist. Like, if in conversation, you say that you don't care for (fill in the band/artist) and someone keeps insisting that you just haven't listened to the right album or that you need to listen again or whatever...

My next train of thought was to try to justify why people do that... (my theory) deep down, we all want to find ways to connect with other people (though some of us are really bad at it). Music is one way we can connect with others. So when we find someone with similar tastes in music - we may try to build on that connection. So, when we learn that this person with whom we have made a connection don't share our love a favorite artist/band - we may try to "force" that connection - and think they must not have listened or listened properly.

Then again, some people are just jerks who think their opinion is the only one that matters. :-)

And just like that, it is time to wrap up our recap of this week's Featured Friday Playlist and prepare the way for a brand new playlist coming up around midnight (or tomorrow if I fall asleep early as I have done once before).Songs 17-19

17. "Wintering" by BlackSheepLad
Earlier this week, another track from Sleeping Alone in the Daytime showed up in the daily shuffle, and I teased this track. As a music fan, I have been inspired by the creativity that has come out of this most challenging year. BlackSheepLad (Phil Mellen) has had more than his share of challenges this year, but out of that he has crafted a really wonderful record.
18. "Coming Home" by Lady Buds
First of all, I challenge anyone to try to type Lady Buds without at least once typing Lady Bugs.  But anyway, Lady Buds are a Liverpool-based duo who are described as travelling indie/folk urban new age rock.  This is the opening track from their new album From the Cities.... to the Shores.  By the way, I wasn't sure I understood all those descriptors/genres, but upon listening it actually makes sense - in a good way.  This is a really great track. My mind almost makes connections to several different earlier bands/artists, but truly the band as a really unique sound.
19. "Goddess Pt.1" by Shadi G
Swedish singer-songwriter Shadi G - like Lady Buds - hits on several different sounds and genres to create something unique.  This new single has elements of jazz, r&b, soul, hip-hop, and Persian music. Shadi G has a wonderful voice. She also formed her own record label in 2017.  I always say, I like to end each playlist with some of the most interesting music in the Playlist, and all I can say is mission accomplished this week.

This week's list was shorter than previous weeks, but it was not short on great songs. Every week, I look forward to discovering some great new (to me) artists and catching up with some old (to me) favorites.  It is my sincere hope that those who check out E2TG or even just peruse the Playlist will discover some new favorites.

E2TG 10/14/2020 - The Middle Part of the Post Title - Love Minus Zero Mix (The House Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Today - our recap of the Playlist continues with songs 17-20...

17. "I'm Okay" by Melting Mallows
Up first, we have the new single from Belgian band Melting Mallows. The band is a 100% DIY band. There music catchy pop/rock. I dig it.
18. "Doorway" by Lefthnd
Next up, we have the lead track from ad mausoleum - the debut album from Richmond, Virginia producer and songwriter Scott Lane who goes by the name Lefthnd. The album features several members of the Richmond music community including members of Butcher Brown - the band perform the new theme song for ESPN's Monday Night Football.  Digging this album.
19. "Mode for Titan" by Josh Werner
Next up, we have another debut album - this from bass player Josh Werner - whose impressive credits include work with Lee "Scratch" Perry, Ghostface Killer, Sly and Robbie, and Wu Tang Clan among others. The album was co-produced by Bill Laswell amd released on his M.O.D. Reloaded label. Cool, free jazz, and a wonderful addition to the playlist.
20. "Better Days" by Rick Hromadka
We close out this shuffle with the title and lead track from the new album from singer-songwriter Rick Hromadka of the band Maple Mars. This has a great psychedelic pop sound that I really dig.
Tomorrow - we wrap up our recap with songs 21-24...

E2TG 7/29/2020 - Words Go Here - Morning Light Mix (Strangers Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I am not sure what to write in this space today except - if you are eligible, please register and vote in every election. Real change starts local and works its way up. There is information on-line about all the candidates and ballot initiatives. Do you were research before you vote and be informed.

The November elections will likely be the most important elections of my lifetime. I, personally, have a lot of anxiety, and I really want the vote to be massively conclusive in the right direction - I don't think my heart or mind or soul can take drama around the results. Talk to your friends about voting. Make a plan - look into absentee or mail-in voting in your area, if those are not possible where you are, look into early voting when crowds might be thinner.  If none of that works, mask up and be safe, but don't not vote.

Our penultimate day to recap this week's playlist.  By the way, thanks for everyone who has followed the E2TG Featured Friday Playlist and for all the positive feedback. This has been an experiment, and I am liking how the playlists have been coming together so far.  Now, songs 23-28.

23. "Sunrise" by Eduardo
Next up, we have the recent single by the Peruvian-born singer-songwriter now based in the US.  The single was released two years after the release of his previous EP Rusty Strings. He spent most of the last two years traveling the country and playing music.
24. "The Secret Forest Lament" by Kate MacLeod
Next up in the playlist, we have lovely song by a true folk artist with an impressive backgroup as a musician and a songwriter. MacLeod celebrating her 50th year playling violin in 2018.  Truly happy to have her music in my playlist, and I hope to hear more and more soon.
25. "Outside in the Morning Snow" by Bearcraft
Another lovely song - and other that references the outdoors - but from a very different musical perspective. Bearcraft is based in Bristol, England. It is released ahead of a new album called Fabrefactions. Bearcraft is the project of musician and producer Dicky Moore.  The album was written shortly after Moore was diagnosed with acute hearing loss.
26. "Dream" by Joseph Doran
Next up, we have a recent single by this singer-songwriter from North West London.  Doran uses technology to recreate a full-band sound all on his own. Very nice.
27. "Siegfried 1969" by The City Gates
Next up, we have the latest single from Montreal based postpunk/shoegaze band The City Gates which is a collaboration with Francis Nothingwater (La Mechanique) and Alexander Donat (Vlimmer).  Really like the sound of this song which is from the forthcoming collaboration album with the above named musicians.
28. " Black Dawn" by Union Kain
We close out this segment of the playlist with some hard rock/metal from South Florida. This is the title track from the new EP by the band. A great addition to the playlist.
Tomorrow, we wrap up our recap with songs 29-34.

E2TG 3/13/2020 - The New Abnormal - Featured Friday - Time is Now Mix (Losing Form Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I hate using the word unprecedented, but here we are.  With major festivals being cancelled or postponed, major sports tournaments and even whole seasons being cancelled, music venues closing down, schools closed - this is not something I have ever experienced in my lifetime.  I am someone who likes to help when people are in need - as I am able - but lately the need seems so overwhelming.  Nashville is still recovering from last week's tornado, and now this...

Right at this moment, I don't have a solution, except to love each other and help when and where you can, exercise caution...   And be creative.  We are in difficult times, and people I care about are suffering from loss of income and other losses.  But, we are creative people, and maybe, just maybe, we can find a creative way to get through this time of crisis - together.  In the meantime, if you love music (and if you reading this), you can support your favorite independent artists by buying physical copies of their music or buying merch, viewing and tipping for virtual shows, and maybe other ways, I haven't thought of.  If you are choosing or forced to stay away from seeing live music, consider donating the money that you would have spent - door cover, drinks, tips, etc. to The 5 Spot GoFundMe or some other cause supporting artists.

I love you all, and I still believe we will get through this.

Now, it is Friday and that means two things: New Release Day and a new Featured Friday Playlist.

E2TG 1/21/2020 - Recent Live Shows - Wasted Saturdays Mix (Lavender Child Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

To be honest, every since we got the news Saturday night about David Olney, that has been the most on my mind. I did want to check in about a couple of live music shows that I caught over the weekend.

Friday night, I caught another Tim Carroll Rock N Roll Happy Hour at The 5 Spot. He does this every Friday from 6-8:30 (with no breaks) and done so for several years. I was trying to remember the last Friday he missed, and I had to go back to somewhere around 2014. The remarkable thing is that the show is all originals (I think "Uncle John" which he does sometimes is a traditional song), and every show is different.  Friday's show featured several of what I consider "classic" Tim Carroll songs plus some new ones. It is all good, all loud, and a great way to spend a Friday evening.

Saturday, I headed back to The 5 Spot for another rock and roll show. This one featured Hannah Fairlight Group, Nashville Non Prophets, and The Truehearts.  Hannah Fairlight Group rocked hard. Nashville Non Prophets featuring Mitch Laney came out with a high energy assault and never let up. The Truehearts remain a favorite of mine. They rock, but in a more subtle way and together it was a great show.

I posted my review of Sunshine Boys opening for Juliana Hatfield at Basement East.

Sunday Night was the CD Release Show for John Dennis' Mortal Flames. I referenced that show in my piece on David Olney yesterday.  To expound, just a little because I am short on time.  John Dennis'  Mortal Flames is a concept album about Life and Death and everything in between. It is a bit about our immortality being tied to the light we leave with others. It is heavy at time, but it is ultimately a life affirming work, and I suspect it will be among my favorites of 2020 when the year is said and done.

E2TG 2019 Recap - Part 1 - The Auteur Mix (Zachary Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

And we are back.  Hope everyone stateside had a great Thanksgiving, and that everyone else had a good end of last week and great weekend.  We have reached December.  And here at E2TG, it is time to start our review of 2019. As I reported last week, I have created a Spotify playlist - highlighting the music and artists we featured in 2019.  Even limiting the playlist to one song per artist (or album in some cases), we still ended up with over 10 hours of music. So, what with all the holidays and other days off, it is definitely time to start our review.  Over the month, I will start adding some new features to represent our change over to E2TG V3.0 in 2020. That will include highlighting some upcoming and recent music that didn't make its way to us in time to make the 2019 listings

Here is the Playlist - if you want to peruse.  I will be removing songs once we list them here in a shuffle. So, the songs below will not be on the playlist any more.

By the way, since I have been featuring these songs all year, I will not be writing about each song, you can search the site for more information, but I will be highlighting certain artists and albums throughout the month.

Just a quick word about what to expect from E2TG V3.0 which I have been teasing for a few weeks.  Well, it is still a work in progress, but what I have in mind is a more collaborative site - featuring content from others.  More feature oriented - with spotlights on whatever comes up and is interesting. The shuffle will always and forever be an important part of the E2TG experience, but it will no longer be the primary outlet for featuring new music.  Rather, it will go back to the roots be more like the Wild Wednesday shuffles (a mix of old and new music).   Expect, recurring features on upcoming releases, a E2TG Featured Spoitify playlist which will refresh weekly (or so), some writing about the Nashville community, and who knows.

If you are reading this and would like to be part of this journey by submitting content, please reach out.  e2tgmusic@gmail.com is a great way to reach me.

Here is our first recap shuffle for 2019. Enjoy!

When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

Honestly, just trying to make it through this short work week... I might make it - still up in the air...

ICYMI yesterday, we are in the midst of the Fall Pledge Drive for WXNA Nashville. I could go on and on as to WHY you should want to support WXNA (I just did on Facebook), but if you already know you want to make a donation, the HOW of it is really simple.  Visit wxnafm.org. The info you need is right on the homepage - including details of the various levels of giving and the related premiums being offered.  While at the website, you can livestream the station, check out the schedule and archives, and read more about the things that make WXNA a community resource.

Well, we made it to Friday. Whew!  I have a busy week ahead of me.

Wonderful night at The Radio Cafe last night (as usual there was way too much good stuff going on at once).   Greg Horne played a solo set, then backed RB Morris (along with the amazing Daniel Kimbro) and Wild Ponies.  A bunch of my favorite people and musicians in one show - with a bunch of cool folks in attendance.

Let's get to the shuffle!
