We are approaching the official (and symbolic) end of summer with some cooler temperatures here in Nashville.  

Let's go with some September 1 music!

Featured Friday Playlist recap (part 4 - the penultimate post) (songs 21-24):

21. "Until the Summer Ends" by I Am Boleyn

First up today, we have the new single from a synth-pop artist who divides time between London and Stockholm.  I Am Boleyn grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia, went to Oxford to study history, and has been writing songs since she was young. 

22. "Don't Follow Where They Lead" by Ed Ryan

Formerly of the 1970s power pop band The Rudies, Ed Ryan just  released his 4th album on the Kool Kat Musik label, and we have the title track. 

23. "Nite Vibes" by Joey Joseph

Cincinnati based Joey Joseph (Pomegranates) just released his sixth album in five years, and we have the title track. A cool, glam/disco vibe here. Cool stuff. 

24. "Never Go Home" by Payton Howie

And, we close this segment of the playlist with the new single from country singer Payton Howie. An ode to summer fun.

Exhaustion... no, no, no... I slept well last night. It's not that kind of exhaustion. It is exhaustion about people who seemingly choose to do the wrong thing every single time.  Now, I know "wrong thing" is a subjective thing.... so I will say - the selfish thing, the hypocritical thing, the unkind thing, the mean thing, the harmful thing, the intolerant thing... every single time - even if it would be easier to do the right thing (eh um, the selfless thing, the consistent thing, the kind thing, the nice thing, the helpful thing, the tolerant thing...

But, it goes on and on at all levels of society and I am exhausted.  And, I think, well, my life is okay, and I have my own problems so I don't want to let these bastards get me down... I'm tired of being outraged, up-in-arms, on high-alert.  And it is a legitimate feeling and one I wrestle with... because I also know that it is a sense of privilege that I can choose which battles to fight and when. 

But, is it also fair to consider what I can accomplish on a global or even national scale or even a state-wide scale vs. what I can accomplish if I set my sights on my community and my friends? 

I ask these questions, and I often don't have answers. But, I do ask and while I am waiting for answer, I try to the next right thing that is front of me, and sometimes I do and sometimes I don't... 

Featured Friday Playlist recap (part 3) (songs 20-26):

20. "The Return" by Ghosts of Torrez

First up today, we have the new single which marks the return of the animal mask-clad folk horror band that formed in 2017 as Bong Torrez. They have a new name and a new song, and I'm excited to have them in my playlist.

21. "Monsters" by Nichole Wagner

Next up, we have the recent single from Austin based singer-songwriter Nichole Wagner. Great tune. 

22. "Peace, Slugz & Rock'N Roll" by SNAILS

SNAILS is a Montreal based bass music producer/DJ, and this is from recent Slimp Time, Pt. 2 release. A rocking electronic track.  

23. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Lindsay Solo

Next up, a gorgeous cover of the Simon and Garfunkel classic from the brand new Love Reimagined covers album from L.A. based Lindsay Solo. 

24. "Hazelwood Moon" by Star Goes Nova 

L.A. based electronic project Star Goes Nova are up next with a new single. 

25. "Bottom of the Pile" by Intergalactic Brasstronaunts

Next up, we have a track from Music for the People by this unique band from Yorkshire. The heavy bass sound is created by a sousaphone and a contrabass clarinet. Chances are you've never heard a brass band like this. 

26. "Twight Sleep (feat. Shelley Segal)" by Perla Nalu 

And, we close out this section of music with an emotionally powerful new single - which taps into unimaginable personal tragedy.  An incredible song to close out this part of our Playlist recap.

Today - our recap of the Playlist continues with songs 17-20...

17. "I'm Okay" by Melting Mallows

Up first, we have the new single from Belgian band Melting Mallows. The band is a 100% DIY band. There music catchy pop/rock. I dig it. 

18. "Doorway" by Lefthnd

Next up, we have the lead track from ad mausoleum - the debut album from Richmond, Virginia producer and songwriter Scott Lane who goes by the name Lefthnd. The album features several members of the Richmond music community including members of Butcher Brown - the band perform the new theme song for ESPN's Monday Night Football.  Digging this album.

19. "Mode for Titan" by Josh Werner

Next up, we have another debut album - this from bass player Josh Werner - whose impressive credits include work with Lee "Scratch" Perry, Ghostface Killer, Sly and Robbie, and Wu Tang Clan among others. The album was co-produced by Bill Laswell amd released on his M.O.D. Reloaded label. Cool, free jazz, and a wonderful addition to the playlist. 

20. "Better Days" by Rick Hromadka 

We close out this shuffle with the title and lead track from the new album from singer-songwriter Rick Hromadka of the band Maple Mars. This has a great psychedelic pop sound that I really dig.

Today we continue our recap of this week's list with songs 10-13:

10. "Ode to Rannva" by Mark W. Georgsson

First up today, we have a singer-songwriter from Scotland - whose music combines Celtic and Nordic influences into the realm of country, Americana, and folk. Nashville readers will appreciate he opened for Chance McCoy of Old Crow Medicine Show in Glasgow. 

11. "Keep Dancing" by Sylvie Simmons

Next up, we have the opening track from Blue on Blue - the long-awaited new album by singer-songwriter and author Sylvie Simmons. The album was produced by Howe Gelb. Simmons is the author of the Leonard Cohen bio, I'm Your Man. This track is extraordinary. 

12. "Inventing Sports" by Ryan Allen and His Extra Arms

Next up, we have a quarantine album by Detroit singer-songwriter Ryan Allen of the band Extra Arms. Song Snacks Vol. 1 is the name of this surprise release. The album was written, sung, played, recorded and mixed by Allen. The songs are short and to the point. Great stuff. 

13. "Manbird" by Anton Barbeau
 

We close out this segment of music with the title track from the forthcoming double album from this psychedelic singer-songwriter who was raised in Sacramento and is now based in Berlin. The album was recorded in Berlin, Oxford, Paris, and California, and Barbeau tried to work with as many Sacramento musicians as possible including Michael Urbano and Larry Tagg who were the rhythm section of Bourgeois Tagg.  A great way to close out this segment of our playlist.

I am not sure what to write in this space today except - if you are eligible, please register and vote in every election. Real change starts local and works its way up. There is information on-line about all the candidates and ballot initiatives. Do you were research before you vote and be informed.

The November elections will likely be the most important elections of my lifetime. I, personally, have a lot of anxiety, and I really want the vote to be massively conclusive in the right direction - I don't think my heart or mind or soul can take drama around the results. Talk to your friends about voting. Make a plan - look into absentee or mail-in voting in your area, if those are not possible where you are, look into early voting when crowds might be thinner.  If none of that works, mask up and be safe, but don't not vote.

Our penultimate day to recap this week's playlist.  By the way, thanks for everyone who has followed the E2TG Featured Friday Playlist and for all the positive feedback. This has been an experiment, and I am liking how the playlists have been coming together so far.  Now, songs 23-28.

23. "Sunrise" by Eduardo

Next up, we have the recent single by the Peruvian-born singer-songwriter now based in the US.  The single was released two years after the release of his previous EP Rusty Strings. He spent most of the last two years traveling the country and playing music. 

24. "The Secret Forest Lament" by Kate MacLeod

Next up in the playlist, we have lovely song by a true folk artist with an impressive backgroup as a musician and a songwriter. MacLeod celebrating her 50th year playling violin in 2018.  Truly happy to have her music in my playlist, and I hope to hear more and more soon. 

25. "Outside in the Morning Snow" by Bearcraft

Another lovely song - and other that references the outdoors - but from a very different musical perspective. Bearcraft is based in Bristol, England. It is released ahead of a new album called Fabrefactions. Bearcraft is the project of musician and producer Dicky Moore.  The album was written shortly after Moore was diagnosed with acute hearing loss. 

26. "Dream" by Joseph Doran

Next up, we have a recent single by this singer-songwriter from North West London.  Doran uses technology to recreate a full-band sound all on his own. Very nice. 

27. "Siegfried 1969" by The City Gates

Next up, we have the latest single from Montreal based postpunk/shoegaze band The City Gates which is a collaboration with Francis Nothingwater (La Mechanique) and Alexander Donat (Vlimmer).  Really like the sound of this song which is from the forthcoming collaboration album with the above named musicians. 

28. " Black Dawn" by Union Kain

We close out this segment of the playlist with some hard rock/metal from South Florida. This is the title track from the new EP by the band. A great addition to the playlist.
