E2TG 2/07/2020 - Featured Friday - Live Show Alert - Unfortunately Mix (Rambling Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Show alert!  Two time E2TG Artist of the Year Darrin Bradbury will be at 3rd and Lindsley Sunday Night for a show hosted by a radio station that is not the one I am associated with... Excited every time I get to see Darrin perform live...

It is Friday, and time for another edition of the Featured Friday Playlist on Spotify.  See below.  17 songs in the playlist this week.  This week's playlist includes new and recent music  by Nashville artists Evan P. Donohue (a founding member of Diarrhea Planet), The Singing Butcher, Party of Shine, Kyshona Armstrong, Irene Kelley,  and Victoria Woodworth,  Plus music from E2TG favorites Joe Goodkin, DateMonthYear, Sammy Brue, Tiny Fighter, and Christopher Paul Stelling.  Plus, some newer "discoveries" like Kat Hamilton, Emily Zuzik, Chicago Farmer, Surrija, Wynnm, and HMS Morris.  Check it out and give the playlist a follow on Spotify.

Brand New List Today!

Friday Shuffle:

Time to close out the week.  It was a snowy morning commute. As usual, a delightfully eclectic mix of music.

"One Wish" by Habit of Mine (from Habit of Mind)

A first listen to this Los Angeles based alternative rock band. This came to us via a direct inquiry last month.  Great sounding tune.
"Peggy Gordon" by Ricko Donovan (from Full On)

One-time Nashville resident, hammer dulcimer player, songwriter, and birthday brother Ricko Donovan is up next. Hope he makes it back to Nashville soon.

"Unfortunately" by Warming (from Warming)

"Horizon part.2" by Lions'Den (from Songbird)

"Sunken Aspects" by Claudio Conti (from Garnet Dusk)

"Rambling" by Moonshine Booze (from Desert Road)

"Trouble and Time" by Chris Carroll (from Trouble and Time)

I think there are over 5,000 songs saved in my phone memory, and a random shuffle brought up two songs this week from this 2014 album by the Texas singer-songwriter.  We have been featuring her latest album Good Farmer (a collaboration with her husband Adam) recently.

"Remember the Love" by Heather Powell (from A Haze of Grays and Blues)

Speaking of defying the odds.  Apparently, this song was save to my phone twice and came up on two consecutive days.  The album was released in 2015, and yes, this track features Kevin Jenkins (for some reason he was credited on the track that came up yesterday but not on the track that came up today - I am sure they are the same track).

"Miles of Broadway" by Maynard and the Musties (from Cheap Cigar)

Nashville by way of Brooklyn band - with a track from an album released while they were living in New York.

"Salvation Jane" by INXS (The Best of INXS)

"Let the Four Winds Blow" by Warren Storm (from Taking the World, By Storm)

A cover of a 1961 Dave Bartholomew and Fats Domino by legendary swamp pop pioneers Warren storm - on a album produced by Yvette Landry.

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Words No Music A Reading coming Thursday, November 15, 2018 6:30pm Radio Cafe Nashville. No Cover, tips accepted and books will be for sale. We have an incredible line-up featuring David Olney,  Rod Picott, Luke Powers, Rebecca Weiner Tompkins, and yours truly. All but me are incredible musicians and songwriters, but for this show - they will let their words speak for them without music.  I will be reading from The Drift plus some selections from a forthcoming book.   FACEBOOK EVENT HERE!

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

If you have read The Drift, please consider writing a review on Amazon. If you haven't read it, you can get your own copy through Amazon or if you are in Nashville, you can get them from me.

Well, we made it to Friday. Whew!  I have a busy week ahead of me.

Wonderful night at The Radio Cafe last night (as usual there was way too much good stuff going on at once).   Greg Horne played a solo set, then backed RB Morris (along with the amazing Daniel Kimbro) and Wild Ponies.  A bunch of my favorite people and musicians in one show - with a bunch of cool folks in attendance.

Let's get to the shuffle!

SAVE THE DATE!!!!!  Thursday, November 15, 2018 - We have a pretty cool event in the works.  More to come!

The other night, I found myself, lamenting my lot in life or at least some aspects of my lot in life. Almost automatically, I started to mentally tick off a list of things that are good about my life. This wasn't always an automatic response. It literally took me years, and it's still not always automatic - but it often kicks in fairly quickly.  In religion, they call it "counting your blessings", in the recovery communities, they call it "a gratitude list". The thing is, more often than not, it works for me.

An aside, I am aware that for some with serious issues of clinical depression or other conditions, the solution is rarely this simple. But, it is one tool (among many) that just may help.

Regardless of all the hard times, bad decisions, pain, and struggles that it took for me to be where I am, the fact is, I am a music fan - who has a choice to go see great live music anytime I want to.  I have a music blog that allows me to meet all sorts of cool people from all over the world.

I also have a radio show that I have been doing for over two years with one of my favorite people in the world (Sue Havlish) on the BEST RADIO STATION in Nashville (as voted by the Readers of the Nashville Scene - for the second year in a row!!!!!!!). That is amazing.

So, while my life is so far from perfect that I can't even imagine what perfect looks like, it is still pretty damn good.

Onward, we move back into the "New Music" playlist.  We have a few "first listens" and overall, a pretty wild and diverse shuffle - so, let's do it!

First off, you may or may not have noticed, but I made an adjustment to the name of this blog and our associated Facebook page. Basically, I officially added E2TG as a part of the blog name.  The reason being, I am finally dealing with a problem I've been aware of for some time. Namely, that there is another music site called Ear to the Ground. I'm not even going to get into the which one came first game. Ear to the Ground is a fairly common saying, and it is not surprising that I am not the only person to think to call a music site Ear to the Ground. I have been aware of this for a long time. It was the impetus for my beginning to use the E2TG designation more and more. If that other site was covering completely different music, it would not be a problem, however, there does seem to be some overlap in the music we cover.  As a result, there have been moments of confusion - like my Facebook being tagged for their posts.  Basically, I have been procrastinating about dealing with this. What prompted me to act, is that the other site seems to have a very formalized submission process, and it appears that some people have been submitting music there thinking it was coming to me.

I don't know if this change will help with either of these issues, but it is a first attempt. For the record, E2TG is all about sharing music I have discovered through a variety of means. Most of my music comes from publicists (most often from those I've come to trust), artists themselves, or recommendations from other artists and/or other music lovers.

The bottom line is that I have nothing but positive thoughts for anyone who makes a effort to spread the word about new and emerging music. What the other site does seems to be different than what I do. My goal is to just prevent as much confusion as possible.

Enough, sorry for getting off track, I've just put off dealing with this for too long.

Last night, I added over 100 tracks to my new music playlist. I don't think any of them came up today, but they will soon.

I don't always go to Madison Guild Monday at Dee's, but when I do, I always have great hangs with friends, meet new people, and hear great songwriters (both familiar and unfamiliar).  Last night was no exception, and in fact it was exceptionally fun. Got to hear Shawn Conerton, Frankie Zwick, Weston Harris Hill, Sean Quinn, and another wonderful songwriter that I am not allowed to mention.

I got three new CDs in the mail yesterday, and that pushed me to finally add some new music to the "New Music Playlist".  Of course, none of those new songs came up in today's shuffle, but soon!

In any event, we have some cool music to feature today - so let's go!

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - You Got This Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

The Drift - the debut novel by Joe Wolfe-Mazeres is available now!

I've been a bit slow about adding new music to my playlist.  Still toying with the idea of creating a couple of different "new music" playlists with a slightly different bent - one for Trending Tuesday and Thursday and a different one for Featured Friday.  We'll see...

Meanwhile, we are into the second half of 2018 and I have a ton of music already loaded into my "New Music" playlist - so let's shuffle!

Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Seasons Songs Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well Week 1 of the E2TG 7th Anniversary Residency is in the books!  Thanks to all who came out. Special thanks to The 5 Spot, Clark Paterson and his great band, Rayvon Pettis, and The Big Dumb.  Inspiring music and good times.

We turn our attention to Week 2 coming up next Thursday, June 14th!

One of the best songwriters in Nashville, Ben de la Cour - who's most recent album is The High Cost of Living Strange will be stopping by to open the on his way to begin a Canadian tour.  Long time E2TG favorites, The End Men will be making a rare Nashville appearance. I believe this will be there first Nashville appearance since playing the Post-Americana all-day thing at The Basement a few years back. I am so excited for some of my Nashville friends to see and meet my Brooklyn friends.  Ted Drozdowski has recently started playing shows under the Ted Drozdowki's Psychedelic Circus moniker. He is a blues man - steeped in the traditions and yet willing to use those traditions a jumping off point for his otherworldly experimentation.  He has been hard at work on a new album, and I hope we hear some of his new music Thursday.

It is CMA and Bonnaroo weekend which means the temperatures have soared into the 90s.  Stay hydrated no matter what you do.

It's time for our Featured Friday shuffle. Currently, this shuffle comes from the "New Music" playlist - the same one I use for Trending Tuesday and Trending Thursday. I'm thinking of creating a Featured Friday playlist - with the idea that I can chose to "Feature" music that isn't technically "New" - which I already do - but I always feel like I have to disclaim.
