My power was off for about seven hours yesterday evening - so I didn't get to do my usual prep work for today's post (which you don't really know about but anyway), so time is tight today... bear with me. 

Reminder: All Featured Friday Playlist songs can be heard on our Spotify Playlist (up until the new list goes live - the following Friday).  Most shuffle songs can be heard on the video playlist (substitute songs used if the actual song is not available on that platform - if possible)

Today, we recap the nexr segment of the Featured Friday Playlist (songs 23-29)

23. "Enter the Animal" by Biomechanimal

First up in this segment, we have the latest single from UK based electro-industrial band Biomechanimal. This hard driving song has been a staple of the band's live shows for some tome. 

24. "Start over Again" by Paul Gillings

Former World Harmonica champion and singer-songwriter Paul Gillings with a track from his new electric blues album Invisible Prison.  

25. "Melting" by A Shoreline Dream

Colorado-based shoegaze/post punk band A Shoreline Dream - return to E2TG with the 2nd single and title track from their new album.

26. "Locked in the Panopticon" by Reardon Love

Next up, we have a UK artist with an 80s new wave feel.  Cool stuff.

27. "We Share the Same Stars" by The Sea at Midnight

Next up, we have the recent single from L.A. based The Sea at Midnight - led by Vince Grant.  The band's eponymous album is due later this fall. 

28. "Wake Me Up When This Year's Over" by KC Beck

Austin based singer-songwriter and army veteran KC Beck echoes what many of us are feeling about 2020 - on his new single. 

29. "Prelude To a Dream" by Eito

We close this segment of music with a track from the recent single by Pittsburgh based battle MC Eito - whose music mixes grime, boom bap, and house. A great way addition to the playlist and great wrap up for this segment of music.

Obviously, this is a challenging time in many ways for many people.

I think about how I have used the word overwhelmed or overwhelming in the past, I feel like I was so naive and over-dramatic. But, this all is truly overwhelming. There is information overload and many of us have more time on our hands to worry or obsess or binge on social media.

Just some observations that I have (take with a grain of salt - I guess - I don't know that I have any special insight).

1. Take this seriously without panicking
2. Use social media to connect with friends and family and for entertainment
3. Be cautious about any second hand or greater information. Check with verifiable legitimate sources. 
4. Check on your friends and family- especially those with physical or mental health issue. 
5. Do things that bring you joy - without guilt. (watch a silly movie - there will be time to "save the world" later).
6. Support causes and people as you are able. 
7. Reach out if you need to - if you can. Talk to people about your fears and your worries. Many of us are in the same boat or a similar boat. You are not alone - even if you are in self-isolation.
8. As much as I would love to say put politics aside during this crisis... well... what I will say, to the extent possible - put politics aside on an individual basis - as you are able. 

As I mentioned yesterday, I am fortunate enough to being working from home. This is new to me, and I have had to learn to stay focused. But, and again I say I am fortunate, this work has kept me in some sort of routine. It has always bothered me a little that I am very much a creature of habit. I mean, I like to think of myself as a free spirit. But, what I have realized, these past couple of weeks, is that I use routines as a tool for dealing with anxiety. I must quickly add that I do not think my anxiety is very bad but it is there nonetheless. Little routines help, I think.  Well, almost every one of my routines have been methodically stripped away. So, I am finding new routines. This may or may not resonate with you, but if you have lost routines and are feeling anxious, maybe try to find new routines. Showering every day, even if you live alone and aren't going out.

I am trying to keep up the routine of writing E2TG every day. Maybe this helps someone, or maybe it is just for me and my routine. Either way is okay with me.

And we are back.  Hope everyone stateside had a great Thanksgiving, and that everyone else had a good end of last week and great weekend.  We have reached December.  And here at E2TG, it is time to start our review of 2019. As I reported last week, I have created a Spotify playlist - highlighting the music and artists we featured in 2019.  Even limiting the playlist to one song per artist (or album in some cases), we still ended up with over 10 hours of music. So, what with all the holidays and other days off, it is definitely time to start our review.  Over the month, I will start adding some new features to represent our change over to E2TG V3.0 in 2020. That will include highlighting some upcoming and recent music that didn't make its way to us in time to make the 2019 listings

Here is the Playlist - if you want to peruse.  I will be removing songs once we list them here in a shuffle. So, the songs below will not be on the playlist any more.


By the way, since I have been featuring these songs all year, I will not be writing about each song, you can search the site for more information, but I will be highlighting certain artists and albums throughout the month.

Just a quick word about what to expect from E2TG V3.0 which I have been teasing for a few weeks.  Well, it is still a work in progress, but what I have in mind is a more collaborative site - featuring content from others.  More feature oriented - with spotlights on whatever comes up and is interesting. The shuffle will always and forever be an important part of the E2TG experience, but it will no longer be the primary outlet for featuring new music.  Rather, it will go back to the roots be more like the Wild Wednesday shuffles (a mix of old and new music).   Expect, recurring features on upcoming releases, a E2TG Featured Spoitify playlist which will refresh weekly (or so), some writing about the Nashville community, and who knows.

Onward, it's Friday!  It's been a crazy week!  Looking forward to seeing some great music tonight... starting with my regular Tim Carroll Rock and Roll Happy Hour and then Blackfoot Gypsies are playing at Mercy Lounge.

A fun night out.  First up, the EP release show for Megan Palmer and Rayvon Pettis.   Ryan Sobb opened the show with a solo set followed by Mercy Bell performing with Trace Faulkner.

Next up was Rayvon and Megan backed by a killer band: Griffin Winton, Bob Lewis, Jonathan Beam, and Aaron Shafer-Haiss.  They performed the seven songs from the EP - 3 written by Rayvon and 3 written by Megan - plus an R.E.M. cover.  Then they played a couple more songs, Rayvon Pettis' excellent Michigan Mansions and one of my all-time favorite songs, Megan Palmer's Knife Twister. 

After that, I headed to the Inglewood Lounge.  I am not sure why I took me so long to get to this cool spot right on Gallatin Rd.  Last night, it was Luella and Kevin Gordon playing duo style.  It was my second time seeing them in this format, and it was fantastic.

Okay - only six songs in the shuffle today - thanks in part of a relatively pain-free commute and an eight minute song.  Let's get to it!

It is Friday!  It is also the final Shuffle of June - thus the end of the first half of 2019. In my opinion, it was been a great year for music. I am sad for people (often people my age or so) who say there isn't any good music these days - especially when they are friends of mine on Facebook, and I literally post playlists of great music every single day.  Makes me feel like Don Quixote sometimes - but I can't seem to stop tilting at windmills.

Anyway, I have another great list to counter the "no good new music" crowd!  Enjoy!

We have reached the end of another work week and another week of shuffles.

We have a pretty awesome Featured Friday Shuffle for you today.

A couple of show alerts that I wanted to mention.  (And as always in Nashville there is a ton of cool stuff).  Tomorrow night seems like a good night to "camp out" at The 5 Spot*.  Early show features E2TG favorites Amelia White and Brett Ryan Stewart and Rosemary Stewart.   As always, Amelia will be backed by an amazing group of Blue Souvenirs.  After that early show, stick around for Harvest Spoon - a Neil Young tribute and benefit to support 5 Spot door man (and Not-So-Steadycam Productions) Jason "Shakes" Hostetler in his mission to deliver Liftware Utensil kits (spoons) to people whose lives are improved by this technology. 

An all-star cast of Nashville's best will be on hand.

Fun night at Madison Guild Monday.  Lots of great sets: Steve Noonan (who I had seen on Saturday), Milan Miller, Rob McNurlin, Conrad y Skordalia, Maynard and the Musties. Loved Linda McCrae's cover of "Ashes to Ashes" on Banjo (loved all her music but that cover just knocked me out), Luella and Kevin Gordon doing a set of Gospel songs was transcendent. Some good hangs. I'm dragging a bit today, but it was worth it.

As promised, our preview of the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV continues.  Saturday's line-up is stacked. The music starts early and goes until very late.
