Featured Friday Playlist recap (part 2) (songs 16-23):

16. "Cataclysm" by Toshio Band
First up, we have a new track from this Brooklyn based neo-noir band for an imagined anti-hero cowboy film. Cool track.
17. "Only Physically" by Saca
Next up, we have a recent single from this melodic pop-rock band from Czechia.
18. "Break Even" by 1st Base Runner
Next, the new single from this Austin-based singer-songwriter.
19. "Hostage" by Milwin
Next up, we have the latest single from this DJ and producer from Sweden.
20. "Forgiveness is Nothing Like I Thought It Would Be" by Steve Dawson
Next up, we have a track from the forthcoming solo album by the lead singer of the Chicago band Dolly Varden. Great song.
21. "Hear Your Voice" by Mark Elliott
Next up, we have the latest single from this Nashville based singer-songwriter.
22. "Slime Zone" by SNAILS
Shifting gears dramatically, we have the latest from this internationally know bass music DJ and producer. I dig this one.
23. "Time to Get Away" by CoCo Zandi
And we close out this segment of music with the new single from the forthcoming solo debut album by Alexander Beggins - 1/2 of the duo Wild Child - under the name Coco Zandi. A great track and a wonderful way to close out this second part of our Featured Friday recap.

E2TG 12/21/2020 - Music City Monday - Hungry Fires Mix (Great Tornado Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Our Featured Friday Playlist Recap picks back up with songs 17-24:

17. "Nocturnal" by Black Needle Noise (feat. Helena Mamich)
First up today - we have the latest single from legendary producer John Fryer's Black Needle Noise project - here he is joined by Croatian-Australian soprano Helena Mamich.
18. "The Man" by Society 1 (feat. DMC)
Next up, we have a collaboration between L.A. band Society 1 (led by Lord Zane) with special guest DMC (as in Run DMC).  This hard hitting track sounds like a match made in...well - maybe heaven isn't the right word here... but this is damn good.
19. "Working Class Hero" by MANCHO
Chicago musician, producer, and music educator Marshall Greenhouse records as MANCHO, and he just released his cover of the classic John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album - which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. MANCHO calls his version Plastic Oh No (2020).
20. "44HH" by Makoto San
French label Chinese Man Records introduced a new series of releases meant to highlight new artists.  The series is called DIG IT! and the first single came out earlier this month, and this is it.  Cool stuff.  The second is out now as well.
21. "All Right" by The Sacred
Next up, we have some hard rock from Nashville! The Sacred are a four-piece band - this was my introduction to them, and I dig it. The band have been crowd-sourcing their debut album.
22. "Mercury in Retrograde" by Departure Lounge
Next up, we have the first single from the forthcoming reunion album by this UK band - whose initial run was from 1998-2002. Peter Buck of R.E.M. plays on the new album Transmeridian which is due out next year.
23. "Cancel Cult" by Pushing Veronica
L.A. band Pushing Veronica believe rock and roll should have a message and that the message should be loud. This new single features a video that includes imagery from A Clockwork Orange.
24. "Save My Heart" by Madisyn Whajne
And we close out this segment of music with the title track from the debut album by this Canadian First Nations singer-songwriter. An impressive debut, and a great sounding record.

E2TG 2019 Recap - Part 11 - Insane Mix (Sex Riot Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

2019 was a big year for E2TG.  We kept things pretty simple.  We did a few song and/or video premieres and hosted a five week 8th Anniversary Residency, but mostly, we featured a ton of music via the tried and true E2TG Morning Shuffles.

I have big things in store for 2020.  Things might not kick off right with the changing of the year, but they will come soon.

Joe on the Radio:

Christmas Day, I have volunteered to sub for some of the great shows on WXNA.  Here is when you can catch me:  101.5FM in Nashville or wxnafm.org everywhere

12/25/2019  (All Times Central)

9-10AM - I will be subbing for What Moves Me and playing some of my all-time favorite Christmas songs (old and more recent).

5-7PM - I will subbing for the fabulous Eargasm, and playing a selection of favorites from 2019.  This time span will feature both music featured on E2TG plus some other songs I dug this year.

10-11PM and 11PM-1AM  - I will be subbing for I'll Sleep When I'm Dead and Dustbin Days and playing two hours of local (Nashville) favorites from 2019 and one hour of non-local favorites.  These will mostly be music featured on E2TG.

Double Shot has one more show in 2019 - Saturday 12/28 from 9-11AM - Sue and I will playing songs that reflect things that are "new" to us.

Let's continue on  now with our recap of 2019!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

In replacing my phone, I didn't lose any of the songs for my shuffle, but I did lose my "New Music/Features/Trending" playlist- so I had to try to recreate it. Don't quite done, but I think we have a pretty good list. Let's go!

Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Before the Dawn Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

It is Friday!  It is also the final Shuffle of June - thus the end of the first half of 2019. In my opinion, it was been a great year for music. I am sad for people (often people my age or so) who say there isn't any good music these days - especially when they are friends of mine on Facebook, and I literally post playlists of great music every single day.  Makes me feel like Don Quixote sometimes - but I can't seem to stop tilting at windmills.

Anyway, I have another great list to counter the "no good new music" crowd!  Enjoy!

Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Dry Clean Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Friday is here!

Last night, I hung out at Dee's in Madison. Saw Chuck Mead - as part of his Honky Tonk tour of Nashville in support of his new album.  His special guest was Carlene Carter.  Interesting to me, Chuck did a version of "Houston" - as song written by Lee Hazelwood and popularized by Dean Martin.  Wednesday night, I saw Rickie Lee Jones do the same song (it is on her latest album).  Interesting because one might not expect crossover between a Rickie Lee Jones show and a Chuck Mead show.  After that, I hung around for Lady Couch - who were fantastic as always.  Saw lots of friends and had a good quality hang with Ryan Sobb - all in all not a bad night.

Now, we have one last shuffle for the week!  Let's get to it!

Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Second Chance Confessions Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

People often ask me (not really) why I do random shuffles for E2TG. I mean, it is my blog, I could painstakingly "curate" a list of 8-10 songs and then post them every day. Why leave it up to the shuffle function to pick which songs pop up?

Never mind that if I picked the list every day, I would spend hours second guessing and obsessing over which new album I was neglecting etc. The main reason for my using the random shuffle is that I believe in the "magic" of randomness.  Over the last eight years, I have seen so many weird coincidences and cool connections pop up in a shuffle.  There's even one today - watch for it.

It has been a busy week, and it's not over. Last night, I stopped off on the way home to catch Nick Loss-Eaton of Leland Sundries doing a solo set at Tennessee Brew Works. You may recall, I had a Leland Sundries song in the shuffle yesterday (I had completely forgotten about Nick playing - until the event popped up on my phone) - see what I mean about randomness?  Anyway, it was a good time. Hung out with Collins de la Cour (who does the music booking there) and Ted Drozdowski (who sat in on a song with Nick).

A quick trip home and then it was off to City Winery to catch a show for a review I am writing.  Look for that review very soon.

Now, let's get to the shuffle.

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - All Out War Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Moving on, we return to our "New Music" playlist for another "Trending Tuesday" shuffle at E2TG.

A whole lot going on in my life, in Nashville, and in the world.  Although I have been known to use this pulpit to talk about things that are important to me (and I may do so again - probably will), I mostly want E2TG to be about the music. From day one, I knew that there were a lot of things that E2TG could never be - so I never tried. I have gone off on some tangents over the last eight years, but I keep returning to the simple truth of what E2TG is all about:  "I heard some cool music this morning that you might or might not know - let me tell you about it."

Let's shuffle!

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

The Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV is just around the bend!  Make your plans to attend Friday April 26 and Saturday April 27 at The 5 Spot in East Nashville.  The fabulous Lady Couch will be closing out the whole she-bang on Saturday!  Here is a video of Allen Thompson and Mike Ford of Lady Couch.

Now, we have come to the last Shuffle for this week. I am off work tomorrow for Good Friday.

You know, I may need to rename my Wild Wednesday shuffle - because to be honest our regular shuffles have been pretty wild and pretty awesome. Thanks go out to the artists and publicists who continue to send me great and diverse new (and reissued) (and new to me) music.

E2TG Song Premiere and Interview: "Midnight Rendezvous" by Josh Gray

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Songs of the Highway album cover art

Nashville is a songwriters town. Maybe THE songwriters town, and I have been fortunate enough to get to know some of the best, and I can say without hesitation and without qualification that Josh Gray is on that list. Songs of the Highway, his new album which is due out April 16, is the culmination of a lot of work and a lot of miles. Today, I am thrilled to premiere the first track from that album.  I also had the chance to ask Josh a few questions about his journey to complete this album.  After the jump, we will all get to know Josh Gray and his music a little better, and then we will take a listen to "Midnight Rendezvous".

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Dress Like Minnie Pearl Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Best laid plans...  I started this like I do every day. I had a dental appointment at 11:30, and I planned to take the rest of the day off work. I hoped to make it home by like 2 or something, and I was going to finish this post and do a bunch of other things. Well, I just got home around 8:00pm.  But, this was such I good shuffle that I didn't want to let it go without posting it.

So, my written contribution will be minimal but enjoy.
