E2TG 5/2/2022 - Music City Monday - Heaven Underground Mix (Howe Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

This is already shaping up to be one of those weeks in Nashville where there is way too many great shows to see and not enough time and/or energy to do them all - especially with doing other things that life requires.

Anyway, it is another Monday - which means it was time this morning to shuffle up our Music City Monday playlist and see what came up... below the jump are the results.

Also - if you haven't done so, please check out this week's Featured Friday Playlist - a lot of great music coming up...

E2TG 11/2/2020 - Music City Monday and More - Normal Mix (Tasty Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, it is November. Tomorrow is election day 2020.  If you didn't early vote, please be sure to vote tomorrow. Here in Nashville some important points - unlike early voting - on Election Day you have to vote at your assigned polling place. Contact the Davidson County election commission or check their website to confirm that location. Make a plan. If possible ask a friend to go with you - better yet go as a group. Bring and wear you mask and bring a valid photo ID. You do not need the card issued by the election commission. If you happen to be in line when the polls close - stay in line.

I know I am not alone in feeling especially anxious about this election. I am still mapping out my plan for election night and what may be a long several days. Take care of yourself. Pace yourself. Don't feel guilty about checking out for a while to listen to music or watch movies etc. as a distraction. No matter the outcome of the elections, it is important for people who care about other people to stick together. There is a long road ahead and it is dark, uncertain, and likely treacherous. But, it is passable and we will get through somehow.

In meantime, I offer up some mostly Music City music for your Election Eve enjoyment.

We pick up where we left off on Friday, with songs 10-14:

10. "The Mystery Of" by mssv
We start off this segment of music with the lead track from the album Main Steam Stop Valve with this band featuring Mike Baggetta, Stephen Hodges, and Mike Watt. This relatively new band formed in 2019 and were supposed to play Big Ears this Spring.  Great stuff.
11. "Closer Now" by Carl Anderson
Next up, a new single from our old friend Carl Anderson.  Always great to hear new music from Carl, and this is a wonderful song.
12. "John Carpenter" by Palm Ghosts
Nashville's Palm Ghosts are back with a new single - this one pays tribute to a film director who was a major part of my youth and young adult years.
13. "Til It's Over" by Morgan Bosman
Next, the latest from Nashville's Morgan Bosman - another collaboration with our old friend Hayden Coleman.
14. "Ashes" by Will Payne Harrison
And this segment closes out with another track from Will Payne Harrison off of his The Stratford Sessions EP.
Tomorrow - we pick up with song #15 - the depth of this playlist is amazing.

E2TG 8/03/2020 - Music City Monday - An Elephant Mix (Good Stuff Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Here is to everyone fighting the good fight - whether that fight is for equal justice and rights for all people or just a fight to stay afloat and alive during these challenging times.  Whether the fight is one of words and action against injustice or one of personal internal struggles in the face of unprecedented challenges.

You are not alone, and there are those of us who may not on the front-lines everyday, but please know that we have your back.

At times, I am overwhelmed by the evil and indifference, apathy, and even acceptance of evil. But, I am okay, and so I must push through those feelings - acknowledge them sure - but push through.

I don't always know exactly what to do or say in every situation and surely these are complicated times.. but standing for what is right and what is just in never complicated (unpopular and dangerous sometimes - sure - but never complicated).

Recapping this week's Featured Friday Playlist: Today, we have songs 8-12:

8.  "Don't Wanna Let You Down" by Jon Worthy
A true story of the first month of the pandemic. This new single is Worthy's first self-produced and self-mixed single. A great song.
9. "Moons of Titan" by Jon Hassell
Next up, we have the jazz pioneer - trumpet player and composer - who worked to integrate ethnic traditions with electronic music.  His new album - Seeing Through Sound - is a follow-up to his 2018 Listening to Pictures album - considered part 2 of his pentimento series.
10. "Pieces of Me" by Ben Arthur
Next up, we have the latest single from long-time E2TG favorite Ben Arthur - who kicked off our 2019 8th Anniversary Residency. He is host and creator of the Song/Writer podcast which features a prose story followed by a song written in response to the story.
11. "Lovely Melancholy" by Ten Penny Gypsy
Next, we have another track from the new album Fugitive Heart - by award-winning Arkansas country duo Ten Penny Gypsy.  This album - like their last was produced by Anthony Crawford.
12. "Hold on Hope" by Tayls
We close out this segment of music with the latest single from Nashville's Tayls - led by Taylor Cole (former front man of Chilaxy and current drummer of Creature Comfort).  The next in a series of cover singles - this is their take on the 1999 Guided by Voices song.
Tomorrow - songs 13-17...

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Calvary Hill Mix (Teenage Bliss Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

The E2TG 8th Anniversary Residency is almost over!

September 25 - Week 1: Ben Arthur + Conrad y Skordalia (SUCCESS!)

October 2 - Week 2: Ryan Sobb + Don Gallardo (Album Release Show)

(SUCCESS!)
October 9 - Week 3: The Truehearts + Jason Erie (SUCCESS!)

October 16 - Week 4:  Josh Gray  + Meghan Hayes (SUCCESS!)

October 23 - Week 5: Microwave Mountain + The Big Dumb (Two Days Away!)

We are gearing up for the grand finale of the E2TG 8th Anniversary Residency.  I am very excited for this one.  I hope you can make it out!

I got to see one of my musical heroes last night. Mike Watt brought his Missingmen  to the legendary Exit/In.   It was a very fun show - lots of Minutemen song plus some choice covers.   Great night overall - with Nashville band Look What I Did  opening, followed by Memphis band Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre.

We have a Music City Monday shuffle - so let's get to it!

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed three - January - May 2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

Time to dive headlong back into another work week... Although, I generally don't look forward to Mondays, I do look forward to Music City Monday here at E2TG when we features a shuffle from a playlist that covers a broad cross-section of the musical past and present of Nashville (as filtered through my sensibilities).

We have some cool stuff to feature today, so let's dive in....

Running late, but I love Music City Monday - so I didn't want to miss.  It's funny how a random shuffle of the same mix of songs can yield a different mix of results. Today's shuffle is heavily weighted toward recent and fairly recent music.   But, you can see for yourself...
