It is Friday, and we have another Featured Friday to bring you. This week's list consists of 34 songs and about 2 hours and 8 minutes of music - spanning multiple genres and locations... Well, it is Good Friday, and I am off work. I usually don't post when I am off work, but it also time for a new Featured Friday playlist. I posted the link earlier today on the E2TG Facebook page, but I wanted to do an official blog post.

Shout out to our old friend Dan Montgomery who just released his latest album Smoke and Mirrors (a phonographic memory). The album is not currently on Spotify, so I couldn't include it in the playlist, but I wanted to bring it to your attention.

As per our new usual, I listened to the Playlist in full and in order this morning. No "shuffle" today and no video playlist, but you can listen to the Featured Friday Playlist below.
So, I told you. Didn't I? David Olney is simply the best. The first week of his residency at The 5 Spot is in the books. Backed by a solid band (Justin Amaral, Daniel Seymour, and Ward Stout) - Olney played some of my favorite songs of his - "Wait Here For the Cops", "When the Deal Goes Down", and "Slim Slammy". He also threw in some songs from a couple of albums he has in the works. In addition, he did his cover of The Bee Gees, "New York Mining Disater 1941", and then surprised and delighted all with a cover of John Prine's "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" which was transformative. If you missed it, he will be back next Wednesday. Then in two weeks, you have one chance to catch Scott Miller before Olney returns for the last two Wednesdays of August.
Tonight is the Andrew Leahey and the Homestead celebrate the release of their record on Thirty Tigers with guest Darrin Bradbury and Bill Eberle. Doors at 8:30 - Darrin takes the stage at 9:00pm.

We live in a universe of wonders and mysteries, but we so often stay locked in our tiny chambers of supposed security. Through open the door, take that tentative step into the semi-darkness. There is a world of wonder and a life to be lead. Fear is rarely useful. Bad stuff happens, but it's just part of the deal, part of the thrill and the appeal. I am a noble coward with big ideas, and yet... and yet, when I step outside my place of ease and rest, and I open myself up... it is only when I experience joy and pain and disappointment and triumph and humiliation that I am truly. This is your day, what are you going to do....
This morning, the shuffle comes from a playlist, I like to call Revolving Random. It's actually more arbitrary than random, but whatever. I created a playlist of 100 songs chosen just because - no theme, new songs, old songs, band's I've featured, novelties, classics... every time, I post a shuffle from this playlist, I replace the songs played with some new ones to keep the playlist at 100. Here is today's shuffle:
First up, we have Tori Amos from her 1994 album Under the Pink which was recorded in Taos, New Mexico. Our song today is Pretty Good Year.

Next up we have a song from Mike Watt's solo debut, Ball Hog or Tugboat?The album was a star-studded affair. Today's track, called Piss-Bottle Manfeatures Evan Dando (Lemonheads) on vocals.
There are some things A guy gets from his pop. Some of them things get spaced, Others never forgot. I got such a tradition. I keep in my truck cab.
Next up, we have a cover of a Blood on the Tracks era Bob Dylan song. This version of Simple Twist of Fate is taken off the soundtrack to the 2007 motion picture, I'm Not There and features Jeff Tweedy of Wilco and Uncle Tupelo fame (in case you didn't know who Jeff Tweedy was).

And finally, we have The Medicine Show from the classic Dream Syndicate album called simply Medicine Show. Dream Syndicate - featuring Steve Wynn (Danny and Dusty/Baseball Project) - were a very influential California-based Paisley Underground band.
