E2TG 4/10/2020 - Featured Friday - Apropos of Nothing Mix (Make a Memory Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, it is Good Friday, and I am off work. I usually don't post when I am off work, but it also time for a new Featured Friday playlist. I posted the link earlier today on the E2TG Facebook page, but I wanted to do an official blog post.

4/10 - Dan Montgomery - Smoke and Mirrors (a phonographic memory) (LP)

Shout out to our old friend Dan Montgomery who just released his latest album Smoke and Mirrors (a phonographic memory).  The album is not currently on Spotify, so I couldn't include it in the playlist, but I wanted to bring it to your attention.

Thanks to everyone who has followed the E2TG Featured Friday Playlist. I hope you are enjoying my eclectic mix of new and recently released music from artists of all kind and from all kinds of place.

As per our new usual, I listened to the Playlist in full and in order this morning. No "shuffle" today and no video playlist, but you can listen to the Featured Friday Playlist below.

   Featured Friday Playlist

Like last week, I am not going to retype the song list below - you can scroll through the embed to see them all.  I wanted to highlight some of the artists featured this week:

Robert Gay and the Alarms - I first knew Robert Gay as a trumpet player around town - playing with many of my favorite musicians.  I have gotten to know him over the last year or more and recently found out that he is a singer-songwriter in his own right. At the start of this quarantine, we decided to release some of the music he has been holding onto for a while. Gay has a keen pop sensibility with a ear toward power pop which I dig.

Whiskey Wolves of the West - featuring veteran Nashville musicians Tim Jones and Leroy Powell, Whiskey Wolves of the West have played high profile gigs during Americana Fest and had a regular gig at The Nashville Palace which I hope to catch when this is all over.  They have some wonderful new music out - I think I featured them a few weeks back.

The "Last of the Full-Grown Men" is back with some new music. Webb Wilder has been a continuous part of the Nashville music community since the mid-80s.

Among his other accomplishments, Fredson co-wrote "Long Time Thinkin'" with Allen Thompson which contains the t-shirt inspiring line "People Are Assholes". Love my shirt. He released a new gem of a song last week, I think, and happy to feature it.

Long-time Austin, Texas singer-songwriter has a timely new album out today called 2020 which serves as a call for unity.

Speaking of Austin, but on a different musical plane, we have Eye Said So who call their music schizo-rock.  We have featured them before. This is a wonderful new single.

Another band we have featured before is Tiny Fighter - an indie-pop band from Stockholm. They released their latest album, Going Home, last week.

Original Violent Femmes drummer Victor Delorenzo released the Tranceaphone EP last week - it is his first album under his own name since 2013 and sixth overall release.

Excited that The Dream Syndicate has released their new album today - The Universal Inside. Led by Steve Wynn, The Dream Syndicate were one of the best bands of the 1980s. Now, they are staking their claim to be one of the best bands of the 2020s.

The remainder of this week's list are "new to me" bands from around the world:
Antwerp post-punk band Arabnormal released their self-titled debut in February, UK band Zilverbacks just released their debut album today, Scottish rockers Baby Chaos released their debut in 1994 - they released their latest in early March, Ellison is a soul/pop singer from Detroit - he just released his single produced by Chuck Alkazian, Sean Alan releases a timely new song, The Mystery Plan are a dreamy electronic band from Charlotte, NC released their fifth album last week - produced by John Fryer, Hallows are a Seattle darkwave band who released their debut EP last week, and Nikavo - an electronic duo from San Francisco just released their new single today.
