E2TG 4/27/2020 - Music City Monday - Dark Glasses Mix (Cold Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Time marches on... we are now into the final week of April, and although so the decision to start reopening some things is happening in some areas, we are still a long way off from many music related functions from opening, and that is assuming that we do not have a resurgence in cases.

I know many people and small businesses are suffering. For those us who are faring relatively well, the need can be overwhelming.  My best advice is to support the venues and artists that mean the most to you and do so in a way that makes sense for your situation. I have tried (emphasis on tried) to match my giving to the money I would have been spending if I was able to out. Everyone's situation is different, and so there is no wrong answer here.

Mostly, what I want my readers to hear - is that regardless of the orders and openings in your area, it is important to be safe and to still stay home as much as you can.  No matter which models or philosophies that you chose to believe, it is clear that we are not at the end of this pandemic, and the possibility exists for a comeback. At a minimum follow the guidelines of health officials regarding masks and social distancing. We are all restless and eager to get back to "normal", but to rush this will only delay things and will likely cost people their health and their lives.

Meanwhile, I am going to do my part to feature some new and not so new music here from the comfort of my home.

Time for another Music City Monday!

    Featured Friday Playlist

Music City Monday Shuffle
A fine mix of mostly fairly recent Nashville music. Enjoy!
"Cold" by Jen Starsinic (from Bad Actor)
Recent album from the singer-songwriter who is a co-founder and co-director of Girls Write Nashville - a wonderful organization that provides mentoring and other programming to support and encourage girls and young women to thrive in the music industry.
"One Road Out (Angola Rodeo Blues)" by Kevin Gordon (from Tilt and Shine)
A track from Kevin Gordon's excellent latest album.
"That Was Now, This is Then" by Joe Blanton (from Good, Bad, Right or Wrong)
If you are talking about Nashville rock and roll over the years, and you do not mention Joe Blanton, you have a big problem.  From The Ratz to The Enemy to Royal Court of China to The Bluefields (to recent reunions of everyone from Raging Fire to Walk the West) - plus so much more. Joe Blanton has been a constant and powerful presence in the history of rock music in Music City.
"Who Are You? Point To It!" by Ron Gallo (from Stardust Birthday Party)
Opening track - not so much a song - from the indie band originally from Philadelphia.
"The Magic Tree (Version 2)" by Steve Forbert (from The Magic Tree)
The second version of the title track to this fairly recent album by the singer-songwriter whose breakout hit was Romeo's Tune back in the late 70s. (Version 2 is not in YouTube - so the video is for version 1).
"Southwind" by Will Payne Harrison (from East Nashville Blues)
Singer-songwriter originally from south Louisiana. Harrison is a champion and cheerleader for his fellow indie Americana songwriters
"Takin' My Time" by Jon Worthy (from Something's Gotta Give)
Jon Worthy just released a new song - which can be found in this week's Featured Friday Playlist. This goes back to his 2019 album with his band The Bends.
"Granddad" by Sarah Potenza (from Monster)
Monster could refer to Sarah Potenza's voice. The one time Voice contestant is a powerhouse singer and songwriter.
"Dark Glasses" by Bob Lewis (from End of an Error)
Before the quarantine, I would see Bob Lewis almost every week and sometimes multiple times a week. He is a fantastic singer-songwriter and an all-around good guy.  A great way to close out this shuffle.
