Catching up on some announcements: E2TG Favorites, The Foresters are releasing their eagerly anticipated new album House Stories on Friday! Here is the link!
As always, there is a ton of great live music in Music City. Of note: Saturday night, at The 5 Spot, I am excited about the Dan Montgomery CD Release Show with special guests BARK and Julie Christensen. Montgomery's new album GONE sounds amazing, it is always great to see Tim and Susan of BARK, and Julie Christensen is one of my favorite artists and people. This is a no-brainer, do-not-miss kind of show!
Also, earlier in the day on Saturday, Sue and I will be celebrating our 1 year anniversary of Double Shot with Joe and Sue. Our theme will be leftovers: we will be revisiting past themes and playing songs that we didn't get or think to play the first time around. Right after Double Shot, I will be filling in for Leslie on Nashville U and spinning some local tunes (past and present) and Gina will be on hand with special in-studio guest Rayvon Pettis!
Double Shot begins at 11a.m. Central Time on 101.5 FM in Nashville and wxnafm.org or via the TuneIn App everywhere.
Really cool coincidence, yesterday, I posted Jon Magnusson's tribute to a local hockey team in Sweden and joked about co-opting the song for the Nashville Predators, and Magnusson commented that one of the Predators players (Filip Forsberg) previously played for the team his song is about.
Time for some wildness on our Wild Wednesday shuffle - this is the day we shuffle from ALL of the songs on my phone. A wild mix today,,,,

It seems like a good time to check-in... yep, it is June 5, 2017, and there are still white supremacists in positions of power in the White House.
******************************************************************************
Had a good time celebrating the 1st Anniversary of WXNA yesterday. As someone who come of age musically speaking with college radio (WRVU in particular), I have to say, WXNA has filled huge gap in the Nashville radio landscape. There is great original programming every single day, all day long, and I am so happy to be a part of it.
TONIGHT! Yes, the Predator's are in the Stanley Cup Finals, and Nashville is abuzz. Game 4 is tonight, but I am going to recommend you get yourself to The Basement East for the Jon Latham Benefit tonight. Not only is it a great cause for a great guy, the music is going to be incredible. Jon's ace band will be the house band with an incredible lineup of guest singers. You can check in on the game on your phone as you need to...
Okay, I was off last Monday, so this is our first Music City Monday in a couple of weeks... so let's do this thing!

So, my event calendar never really got off the ground, fortunately, Jared over at Fighting the Nashville Blues - has you covered. Here are his previews for the week ahead.
So, I am still kind of reeling from the E2TG Anniversary Extravaganza. Such a good time. I hope to bring you more shows in the future. It was fun to introduce friends to other friends' music in a live setting.
My daughter and I had a great weekend. We took in Luella and Tim Carroll down at Phat Bites in Donelson on Saturday morning, and then Saturday night spend some time with The Foresters and Mia Green in at an Airbnb in East Nashville and heard tunes by the aforementioned. The Foresters should be headed back to Connecticut as I write this, and I wish them all safe travels. They had the opportunity to play Puckett's Grocery in Leiper's Fork yesterday.
Time for some Music City Monday sounds...

A modest proposal to deal with the problem of people talking during music performances: Just let John Moreland play. I saw John Moreland play twice last night. The first was at Music City Roots where he wowed an audience mostly unfamiliar with his music. Later, he played a full headlining set at The 5 Spot in East Nashville in front of a packed house. The minute John Moreland began to play, the crowd (a bar crowd after 11:00pm) fell silent almost immediately. A friend of mine asked what it was about his music that had that effect. In the moment, the only words that came to me were the emotional vulnerability of his songs. I don't know if that is the answer. But, it got me thinking about vulnerability, and how our society sees it as a weakness, but how in the hands of someone like John Moreland - it can be such a powerful thing.

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle - Full Grown Man Mix

In the middle of posting this, I heard about the passing of Rock and Roll legend Bobby Keys. The long-time Rolling Stones saxophonist was a resident of Nashville at the time of his passing, and I had the great pleasure of seeing him and his band play a free lunch time show at the downtown Public Library in the summer of 2013. RIP Bobby Keys...

Thursday Morning Music Shuffle - This is the Blues Mix

Nashville - come out tonight to The Five Spot in East Nashville at 9:00pm for an awesome show. The Harmed Brothers, Charlie and the Foxtrots, and #E2TG favorite Darrin Bradbury who will be backed by the star-studded (and stud-starred) Fran's Eastside Super-High Band!
Apologies to Tim Carroll (who by the way is part of the aforementioned Super-High Band) for appropriating the title of one of his songs for the subtitle of today's shuffle. The song isn't in the shuffle, but it came to my find, when I heard the high concentration of Blues numbers in the first part of this morning's shuffle.

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle - Mystery Train Mix

I realize that I have a music problem, but there are far worse problems to have... I know because I've had those, too. Music, though, man! Music has this amazing ability to make you forget your problems or remind you that you are not alone with your problems or just to make you feel good for the 3 minutes or so that the song goes on. Music also has brought me together with some amazing people.
Today, we have a most excellent shuffle which has helped me through a not so excellent morning.... Now, I want to share it with you...

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - Potential Energy Mix

Okay pre-writing disclaimer... I'm just not feeling particularly verbose today. So, expect some short, sharp comments... but who knows what will happen when I get started... What's fun about the randomness of the shuffle process is that it often does far better than I ever could arranging a fine mixture of divergent tunes into a pattern which at once defies and expands the conscious minds ability to understand the complexity of music as a part of human interactions. Did I say, I wasn't feeling verbose? Oh well....

Let's see.... So apparently, Foo Fighters are playing at The Ryman on Halloween.
Last night, I got hang out with some awesome songwriters and talk music and the movie Road House, plus hear some of them do what they do best. I also hopped over to the Mercy Lounge to finally see Dogs of Oz live. They were awesome, and I hope to see a longer set from them soon. Here is a picture.
