A couple of notes:

1. Even though I am focusing on the "New Music" playlist for at least the next month, I have decided to keep Wild Wednesday intact.  It is a good opportunity to dig into the subbasement of my phone's memory to pull out gems which might have slipped by.  These may be "new music" or "Nashville based" or #E2TG related, or they may be classics from my collection or unusual recent discoveries (that don't fit the other categories)

2.  My phone seems to be dying.  I have ordered a new phone which means I will be transferring the music to that device when it arrives.  In my experience, transferring the songs is fine, but I will likely lose all my playlists. If that is the case, I will begin by rebuilding my new music playlist to the best of my ability (and I may take that opportunity to thin out some older songs from that list).  If for some reason, I don't have time to set up the playlist, expect Wild Wednesday shuffles until I get that done.

Wide Open Wednesday Shuffle - Summertime Thing Mix

Trying a new thing here at Ear to the Ground.... every Wednesday (or at least this Wednesday... or maybe some Wednesday's) I am going to Shuffle up all the songs in my phone's memory and see what happens...  Usually, the Morning Shuffles come from a playlist called "Current Stuff" which includes... well current stuff and basically all the recent adds plus some random stuff to keep things interesting.  Songs are moved off of the playlist as they are featured and new music is added all the time (as memory allows).  Beyond that playlist, I have approximately 4,000+ songs stored in my phone at any given time. As you might expect, it's a weird collection of some really interesting music that I've collected in various ways over the years.  I have to say, the fact that Mary Gauthier and Chuck Prophet were the first two songs that came up... I am feeling optimistic.

Over the last week or so, I've had several friends here in Nashville mention the strange activity of our local avian population.  As a fan of (and one scarred for life by) Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, I am intrigued. Is it the above average temperatures or does it foretell some darkness to come...  Who knows... we have gaggle of songs so let's get to the shuffle...

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - Sexiest Librarian Mix

 After some extended time away, we are back with an honest to goodness Morning Shuffle.  

Louisville, Kentucky based My Morning Jacket are up first with Librarian from their 5th Studio Album - Evil Urges.  

The late, great June Carter Cash wife of the late, great Johnny Cash wrote the song Ring of Fire which was made famous by her husband.  Since then, numerous covers of the song have been recorded including Social Distortion, Wall of Voodoo, Eric Burdon and the Animals and others.  Today, we have June's own version:

 

Lou Reed released his third solo record Berlin in 1973. Caroline Says I is from the first side of the record.

 

And finally, Rage Against The Machine from their 1999 album, The Battle of Los Angeles with Guerilla Radio.  And we are out!
