Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - The Resistance Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

E2TG moves into 2019.

First of all I know I still owe you all two posts for 2018.  I have a Earie wrap-up post mostly done and then the all important Golden Earie Awards. Realistically, it will be this weekend before those get done.

However, last night, I got caught up on a ton of new music that has come my way over the last month or so. I loaded over 300 songs into my phone.   For 2019, I have created a new "Trending" playlist for Trending Tuesday and Trending Tuesday. This is all music received since around November 2018 or later. That playlist stood at 313 songs at the beginning of today.

The previous "New Music" playlist has been re-dubbed the "Featured" playlist. This will be a constantly expanding playlist of music that has come my way. It has all the music from the previous New Music playlist plus some music accumulated in November and December that wasn't submission. (For example, I got a CD from a gift exchange and I got an annual mix CD from a friend) - those went into the "Featured" playlist but not the "Trending" playlist.  However, I should point out that all the music added to the "Trending Playlist" went into the "Featured Playlist".

So today, is Thursday so the shuffle came from the newly created "Trending playlist"

Bottom line, it's all good.  Listen to music!  Let's shuffle!

E2TG Election Day Special: Liberty and Resistance

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

If you didn't vote early, PLEASE VOTE TODAY!  There is no excuse for not voting.  Here's a link to some Tennessee-specific information.  GOVOTETN.  I've heard that Lyft and Uber are offering free rides to the polls, and I know people who are volunteering to drive people.  I honestly believe this may be the most important election of my lifetime.

A little less than two years ago, I made the decision that I had to speak out about things that I saw happening in this country. I never thought I would use E2TG to express political opinions, but there came a time when I could not remain silent.

This is not a time to be dismayed, this is punk rock time. This is what Joe Strummer trained you for. - Henry Rollins.

I believe that it was music that first woke me up politically. Punk rock and folk music - protest singers, singing protest songs... and then, on November 9, 2016, I gathered with some friends for an already schedule show at The 5 Spot. On that day, we all knew we had some dark times ahead, but on that night, I knew that good people were going to fight back and that music was going to play a big part in the resistance.

Today, we have two new releases - especially written and released for today. I am happy to share them with you.  To be honest, I have a lot of apprehension about today's elections. I don't know what the outcome will be, and to be honest, it is extremely disheartening that these races are even as close as they are. But, I know one thing for sure, whatever happens today - here in Tennessee and across the nation - the fight is just starting and I am in for the long haul.

We have one song in a punk rock vein and another more folk oriented. Music after the jump.

Featured Friday Morning Shuffle- Big Damn Baby Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.
(From The Drift - A Novel by Joe Wolfe-Mazeres) Available at Amazon.com (Kindle edition also available)

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed seven - January - July2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

E2TG January 2018
E2TG February 2018
E2TG March 2018
E2TG April 2018
E2TG May 2018
E2TG June 2018
E2TG July 2018
E2TG August 2018 (coming soon!)

Well, it's the end of another, albeit short, week of work.  Heading into the weekend (aka the calm before the American Fest storm).  My final bit of advice for anyone coming to AMA for the best time is to pace yourself. Also, if there is something you REALLY want to see at a smaller venue like The Basement or Station Inn (for example) - than plan to get to that venue early and stick it out. Otherwise, there is a good chance you won't get in - especially if it is a really popular artist (or there is a really popular artist after the show you want to see). Have fun, hit up the parties, and say hello if you see me around.

We close with our usual Featured Friday shuffle. A few first listens today. Let's shuffle!

Okay.... it's been one of those weeks... brutal is not a strong enough word for it. But it is mid-week and all will be well soon enough - I suppose.

Time for "Wild Wednesday" on E2TG. We a good cross-section of music - including some from the "New Music" playlist and some classic tunes... let's jump!

Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Floating the River Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Guess what!  Today will be the last day I bug you about the E2TG 7th Anniversary Residency. That is because tonight is the finale!

I saw "bug you", and sometimes promoting events like this can feel like overkill. But with social media algorithms being what they are - it is almost a necessity to repeatedly post in every imaginable way. I know that personally, I will sometimes see a post about a show the day after the show occurs, and there have been times that I thought I was over-posting about an event - only to mention the event in person to someone who I know is on social media and who reacts to my generic posts regularly, only to have them say, "I didn't know you were having that event".

So... TONIGHT! Get yourselves down to The 5 Spot. Our really big shew will begin promptly at six and end promptly at 8:30.  Shane Tutmarc, Joanna Barbera, Eli Cook, and Bee Taylor will be your entertainment for the night. I will provide light MC tasks. Hopefully, I will read a short section from my novel, The Drift, and I will have a few copies for sale.

As always there are a myriad of live music choices in Nashville, but we do hope you will make E2TG, The 5 Spot, and our great line-up a part of your evening.  Fun fact: Most late shows don't start until at least 9:00pm (even if they say 8:00pm), so come to our show, and we will have you on your way long before the downbeat of the next show.  (Or just stay at The 5 Spot for their always stellar late show.)

Now, let us jump right into the Trending Thursday shuffle.  As always, these are the songs/tracks that I listened to on my way to work this morning:

Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - You'll Dance to Anything Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Damn, I'm running short on time, but a couple of quick shout-outs.  First to Mark Huff for a fantastic set to celebrate the release of his new album Stars For Eyes at The 5 Spot.  Some of my favorite people played with him - Dave Coleman on guitar and Lisa Oliver Gray and Julie Chirstensen on back ground vocals.

Ben de la Cour has a great CD release show after that at The Basement.  Chris Moyse opened with his great songs, Becky Warren rocked the house, and Ben de la Cour sounded fantastic as always with a pretty rare full-band set.  The most special moment was at the end of the set when his band left the stage and Ben sang "Uncle Boudreaux Went To Texas". The first time through a couple of people sang along with the chorus, the next a few more, and then it seemed like the whole audience was singing along.

So- it's Thursday - time for Trending Tuesday.  A quick technical note - I discovered some problems with a new music playlist.  There are some older songs included in that playlist. Not sure what happened. The last time I had to recreate playlist I must have added a few extra tracks. No worries, I think it''s fixed now, plus even though a couple of these songs are not "NEW" they are still songs and they are still good. Let's shuffle:
