I will just leave the definition here... and only add that farce is far more fun to watch than it is to live.

It was really great to drag myself out of my air conditioning to check out Ben de la Cour and Tommy Womack at The 5 Spot last night. Ben de la Cour (who I first discovered through Couch by Couch West) is a relative newcomer to Nashville (well with the rapid influx of people, he maybe not be considered a newcomer) and Tommy Womack is a long-standing member of the Nashville music community. I love it when the best of "old" and "new" Nashville share a bill. As a bonus, I got to hang some with Too Much Country - a fellow music blogger/fan (who also writes about NASCAR and Schaefer Beer.
Tonight, a full-plate. Kristen Englenz and Sean Quinn are at The 5 Spot early along with Lady HD from Philly. I managed to snag a ticket to the Sold Out Oh Boy Records presents The Songs of John Prine at the Basement East. If you didn't get tickets to that event, worry not, Jon Latham and Andrew Leahey are wrapping up their residency at The Family Wash - beginning around 9.
Don't forget Mark Robinson is having his CD Release Party at The 5 Spot on Saturday.
Well... we've sweltered through this hot week and made it to Thursday. We call it Topical Thursday, and of late, that has meant that we delve into the music that has made E2TG what it is over the past six years. We have a great mixed bag today, so let us dig in...

Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - I Saw the Crescent Mix

Okay - it's Wednesday. It's been a very busy week, and things do not seem to be slowing down any time soon. But, it's all good.
Wednesday, we shuffle up every single song in my phone's memory and see what happens. So, these may be newer songs, random songs that don't fit another classification, "stragglers" from prior featured albums, things I don't remember adding to my phone, classics, favorites, and assorted goodness. We call it "Wild Wednesday". For one, the results can be pretty wild, but mainly, "wild" as in "wildcard".

Well, I am back after an extra extended weekend. I was supposed to be back yesterday, but I had to see a man about a tooth. OUCH!
First a quick recap - the incredible run of live music last week continued: Friday: Erin Rae, Tim Easton, and Ariel Bui. Saturday: Ted Drozdowski, Gina Sicilia, and Jon Langford.
Back at the live music tonight as Amelia White's Residency kicks off with Jesse and Noah opening, and an awesome band backing Amelia White - that is at The 5 Spot. ICYMI- here is a link to my preview of the September Residencies at The 5 Spot.
Later at The 5 Spot - Broads and Brews Comedy Show benefiting Thistle Farms with tarot card readings, comedy, and music by Joanna Barbera and more.

Monday Morning Music Shuffle- Use Ya Blinkahs Mix

Well. here we are on a Monday. I'm posting this late because I have been in a conference for work all day and will be tomorrow and Wednesday. In addition, being a Monday, my bluetooth earphones decided to act all weird. That along with the fact that we have a very long song in the shuffle means only four songs.
But first, time to hop back into the 2015 "Earie" Awards. To recap, last week we handed out virtual statues to Darrin Bradbury, Paul Zografi, Richie Owens and the Farm Bureau, Mark Robinson Band, and The Foresters.
I couldn't decide what to call this award, but I knew who the winners would be... three way tie on this one... How about we call it, the New York State of Mind Award. All of winners are excellent songwriters on the Nashville "scene" who moved her from New York, and who to me represent the best of "New Nashville". By that I mean, they really seem to "get" what this town is about and they bring a fresh perspective and new voices.
The "New York State of Mind" Award goes to: Lindsay Ellyn, Sara Syms, and Jeremy Nash.
Lindsay released her Out of Road EP earlier in the ear. Surrounding herself with some of Nashville's best, she made one of my favorite records of the year, and her live shows are always amazing.
Sara released Way Back Home recently. The album was recorded in New York, but here in Nashville, she has also embraced some great local players and has become a fixture on the local music scene.
Jeremy, like Sara Syms, recorded his recent album, Getaway Driver in New York, and I think he may be the freshest face of the three in Nashville.
The three albums are among my favorites, the three songwriters are, I believe, net gain assets for the Nashville music community. I am happy to let them fight over the one, invisible award.
Moving on...
Finally, I have to say that I learned a lesson this weekend. When you post something on the internet about how you don't dance, you are just setting yourself up. This weekend, I found myself dancing not once but twice at two different venues on Saturday night. Thanks to the person at the Basement East who I don't know who convinced to dance during Sadler Vaden's set and Mary Sack for convincing me to dance during Ballhog! (I think).
It was another amazing weekend for live music kicking off with Jon Latham who killed it opening for the out of this world Malcolm Holcombe. Holcombe's band included Darrell Scott and Ken Coomer, and Mary Gauthier joined in for one song. After that I got a good reminder of the awesome friends I have made over the last year or so. Helping some friends celebrate their new house, singing loudly and badly to Bob Seger, and being a part of a conversation that moved naturally from the lack of necessity of the powder on Doritos to the films of Werner Herzog,,,,
Saturday, Sadler Vaden was amazing and Drvin' 'n' Cryin' were every bit the legends they are - with Warner E. Hodges on guitar, they played for around 2 1/2 hours including playing nearly an hour long encore that included Warner leading the band through "Absolutely Sweet Marie". Then, I made it to the 5 Spot very late to catch the tail end of the Get Behind the Mule: Tom Waits Tribute and Benefit for Second Harvest Food Bank. I know the whole night was fabulous, but at least I saw Shane Tutmarc, Bone Machine, and Ballhog!.

Another great night of music in Nashville - both the shows I saw and those I wasn't able to see (can only be in one place at a time!). What I saw: Lindsay Ellyn had her EP release show at Two Old Hippies in the Gulch, and once again demonstrated why I have been so impressed with her music since I met her last fall. It's a simple formula that not too many can or will follow. Start with great songs, surround yourself with top-notch talent, treat others kindly, and work hard. Her EP Out of Road is out and available at the usual places, and it comes highly recommended by #E2TG.
After Lindsay's show, I hopped over to 3rd and Lindsley for the Bobby Memphis Benefit show. It was a great night for a great cause, and I finally got to see the Human Radio live and her both their classics and some awesome new songs. (Read my Review on No Depression). To donate to the Bobby Memphis fund - visit the Go Fund Me page.
Human Radio reformed at the end of 2014 and they are in the midst of a Kickstarter Campaign for a new album and tour.
