So - I'm gonna let today's shuffle do the talking...
but, I do want to report on another long but excellent night of music at The 5 Spot in East Nashville.
D.L. Duncan continued his month-long residency playing some great blues-based music. First playing accompanied by a snare drum - and then by a full-band including a wonderful horn section. Duncan was joined for several songs by the legendary guitarist Jack Pearson.
The late show featured several favorites of mine beginning with Taylor Alexander - back by Jess Perkins on pedal steel, then Rocky Bottom, the always incredible Rayvon Pettis, and The Big Dumb - featuring Javi Jones and Anna Joy Harris. I had never seen Javi in this setting, and I have to say I loved it.
Tonight, the Smoky White Devils wrap up their residency with guest Ted Drozdowki's Scissormen (next Thursday will be the 25th Anniversary of Richie Owens and the Farm Bureau.)
Onward to Topical Thursday on E2TG. I really should write this disclaimer and save it and copy and paste each week... but here goes...
I selected a topic (its a a very loose topic) and I went through my list of songs and picked out songs that fit (seemed to fit) or at least struck me in the moment of selection as fitting the topic. I created a playlist with those songs, and every Thursday I randomly shuffle up songs from that playlist. At some point, I may change the topic.
Rule/Disclaimers: I do not expressly state what the topic is nor do I explain why a particular song fits. I am not in any way implying nor should you infer that the songs' writers would intend or necessarily approve of their song being applied to this topic. All connections are (or were) in my head. I also will not confirm nor deny if you try to guess the topic. Just sit back - enjoy and let you own mind make the connections (or not);

I have been so inspired of late, watching friends having their dreams come true in so many ways.... The Americana Music Association announced their final group of artists for next months festival, and I was so happy to see some good friends on the list (many of them making their debuts as official showcase artists). Several people who may have read about on E2TG are on the list including the most recent two Artist of the Year!
Seeing the Foresters and others from the Dord Music Group - absolutely killing it at Athens PopFest and getting an amazing opportunity to play alongside their heroes from the Elephant 6 collective.
See friends releasing new albums and getting the opportunities to play "big" shows...
It moves me to do more with the opportunities I have been given.
Hey ho! Let's go! Tuesday - what's "trending" at E2TG? Find out!

And I am back... I think I caught a bit of summer cold that kind of knocked me out yesterday, but I am feeling mostly better today.
Let's see: Friday night, I took in another fun Tim Carroll Rock 'n' Roll Happy Hour at The 5 Spot.
Saturday: The day began with a live broadcast of Double Shot with Joe and Sue (and our topic was "Our Favorite Years" - namely 1968 for Sue and 1985 for Joe), then I headed to Two Old Hippies where I saw Adeem the Artist perform a really entertaining set of mostly original music (plus a nice mash-up of Margaritaville and Feliz Navidad. Later, I finally got to the brand new Radio Cafe which has not yet officially opened. The weather was hot Saturday but Mark Robinson and his band were even hotter. A really cool singer-songwriter named Greg Rich (who learned guitar from Mark Robinson back in Indiana) opened the night. As someone remarked, you could have put together a hell of a band just from the people in attendance. I ended my Saturday at an awesome after-NAMM party hosted by Richie Owens and his family.
This week is filled with "Nashville Dilemma" moments which makes this summer cold particularly annoying. Tonight at the Family Wash, it is Pint and Pie night and Short Sets with Tim McNary and Brooklyn band Leland Sundries on the bill.

Greetings and salutations... It is Tuesday!
Tonight a couple of events worth noting (among many cool things happening I am sure).
1. East Side Storytellin' is a great series that pairs a songwriter with a poet/writer. It is held at the Post East and starts at 7:00. Tonight is their 85th edition and features writer Joshua Moore and reigning E2TG Artist of the Year Jon Latham.
2. A stellar local lineup at The Basement East beginning at 9:00. Carl Anderson, Peyton Parker, Adrian+Meredith, and 2014 E2TG Artist of the Year Darrin Bradbury fresh off his star turn on Music City Roots. That's right, two E2TG Artists of the Year in one night.
On Tuesday, we post songs from our Trending Tuesday playlist which includes new music, songs we have decided to feature, and assorted other goodies. Dig in!

The First Annual E2TG Anniversary Extravaganza! May 18! The 5 Spot! East Nashville! Everything is falling into place... you are the missing piece! Be there!
Wow! The days seem to be flying by of late... The anniversary show will be here before I know it! So much to do, so little time...
A lot on my mind, I kind of feel another of those long, multi-subject posts coming on.. kind of the state of my mind address/manifesto...
Kind of sort of non-music related, but I went to an art talk last night at The Red Arrow Gallery in East Nashville. The talk was between Joe Nolan (who besides being an excellent songwriter/singer also writes about art) and Lindsy Davis. Lindsy's incredible show at Red Arrow is closing this weekend, so if you are in Nashville go see it. (Just to make a connection for you) Lindsy also happens to be the creator of the "Bob" image from Darrin Bradbury's album The Story of Bob (which I use as my profile picture on Facebook). So, see it does relate to music... Anyway, the talk was illuminating and inspiring and seems to have set off some creative sparks for me personally.
So, the moral of all this is to say, go out and explore some art. Even if you don't think of yourself as an "art" person, go to an art talk (if possible one with Joe Nolan) and listen and take in the art with an open mind and open heart. Art (visual, musical, verbal, whatever) is an important part of the fabric of our world. As governments cut funding and society tries to marginalize true art (while elevating people who almost literally do nothing), art endures and it is vital and needs to be supported.
Coming down off my soapbox - it is Friday. Featured stuff coming up...

MAY 18. The 5 Spot. 9pm. $5. Be there!
Hey - welcome to Tuesday. E2TG turns 5 this month, and I am going to reflect on this milestone throughout the month.
Other than the incredible people I have met as a result of writing this blog, my next favorite thing has been all of the music from all over the world that has come to my ears. Music, I might otherwise never have had the opportunity to hear. Not only that, but I am fortunate enough to get to write about and try to help spread the news about this great music.
Let's jump right into the Trending Tuesday shuffle which contains some music that fits that last description.
