16. "West Reservoir" by Alice Hubble

First up today, we have the lead track from Hexentanzplatz by UK synth pop artist Alice Hubble. 

17. "Treasures" by Astral Brain

Next up, we have the second single from the forthcoming The Bewildered Mind album by this Swedish dreampop duo. 

18. "Words to Live By, Suits to Die In" by Queen's Pleasure

Next, we have the title track from the debut album by this garage rock band from Amsterdam. 

19. "Open Chest" by Sitrekin

Next, we have a new single from Danish - Kirstine Stubbe Teglbjærg - whose song on the Twilight Saga soundtrack hit 100 million streams. This is a wonderful song with diverse influences. 

20. "Half In, Half Out" by The Kundalini Genie

Next up, we have the title track from the forthcoming fifth album by this Scottish psychedelic rock band. 

21. "Family Tables" by IVORY BLUE

And, we close his section of the playlist with the latest single from this singer-songwriter from  Kansas City, Missouri.  A great way to take us out for the day.

It is with a heavy heart that I let you know of the passing of long-time E2TG favorite and friend Dave Hogan on January 14th after a short illness. We featured both his solo work and his work with Grimm Generation. In fact, he was the first Connecticut musician that I met in person - thanks to Jason P. Krug - when Hogan played a songwriting festival in Nashville several years back.  In addition to being a musician he was also a DJ on WPKN in Bridgeport, CT.  E2TG Artist of the Year Jason P. Krug wrote a remembrance of David Hogan which you can read here.



Event Alert:

This Saturday at The Basement East - Juliana Hatfield and Sunshine Boys 

Chicago’s Sunshine Boys (featuring Freda Love Smith of Blake Babies, Dag Juhlin of Poi Dog Pondering and Jacqueline Schimmel of Big Hello) released the politically-charged single “Infinity Girl” on Friday, Jan 10.  The band will then embark on a short tour with Freda’s former Blake Babies band mate Juliana Hatfield and there is a show confirmed for The Basement East on Sat, Jan 18.

It's Thanksgiving Eve, and I am winding down my work week - before having/taking 5 days in a row off. More than likely, this will be last shuffle before next Tuesday, but there is a chance I may sneak in a special shuffle...

My experience with thankfulness/gratitude is that it is most needed when you least feel it.

Sending wishes for safe travel to all those on the road for the holiday.  I am especially thinking of those facing the holiday away from family or facing a first holiday without a special someone.

For those in Canada - retroactively apply these thoughts to last month.  For those outside the U.S., you may ignore - but thankfulness is universal. Peace!

It is Tuesday or as we say here at E2TG - Trending Tuesday.

I have a little extra time so I thought I would explain each day's "theme"...

Music City Monday - songs with some connection to Nashville.  Artists who live in or have lived in Nashville, albums recorded in Nashville, maybe songs about Nashville, plus artists that I mistakenly thought lived in or had lived in Nashville.  Plus songs added to the playlist in error.

Trending Tuesday - kind of an esoteric playlist... mostly new (or fairly recent music)... includes music sent to me plus (fairly) recent and notable releases plus songs connected to some notable (fairly) recent events.

Wild Wednesday - all of the above (and below) plus songs that don't really fit on any other playlist.

Throwback Thursday - songs of a certain vintage. Usually at least ten years old, plus occasionally and accidentally a recent song by a long running artist that I mistakenly think is an old song.

Featured Friday - mostly music which was sent to me.  Since I don't do many album reviews - this is my way of making sure I write something about most of the music that I receive and love.   Newer music from artists who I consider long-running "friends of E2TG", ends up on this list.

Lots of almost news to almost report... Expect to have more information about my and Sue Havlish's WXNA show - Double Shot with Joe and Sue very soon.  If you have not done so, now would be a good time to follow our show on Facebook.

Also, expect more details about the forthcoming E2TG Five Year Anniversary Party (5/18 at The 5 Spot).  Just trying to lock down the final details.

Maybe, probably less soon, expect some information about the future of E2TG (it's so bright, I have to wear shades - how is that for a relatively obscure - nearly 30 year old reference).

In the meantime, it is Tuesday when we take a look at what is "Trending" on E2TG....

We have reached Friday... which means another featured Friday shuffle coming up...

Still dealing with a change of seasons cold, but I did get out early last night for the final night of the Paul Burch residency at The 5 Spot.  As he did the first week, Kevin Gordon played guitar with Burch and his WPA Ball Club whose new album Meridian Rising is out today.  It was a really incredible show with special guest Emma Swift.  Beginning next week, Fats Kaplin and Kristi Rose  will hold down the Thursday early residency slot for the month of March (with the exception of St. Patrick's Day).  That promises to be outstanding.  I think The 5 Spots' early residency shows are one of the best things Nashville has going on, and looking ahead to the announced and rumored shows coming up, I think you will agree.

Once again, there is a ton of great music going on tonight.  My plans include stopping by the Tim Carroll Happy Hour and then moving over to Bobby's Idle Hour to see the Dark Horses of East Nashville (Amelia White, Julie Christensen, and Sergio Webb) and then to see how time and my cold are doing after that.

I am thinking about some tweaks to the E2TG format.  This is not E2TG v. 3.0 (that will come soon enough hopefully), but consider this E2TG v. 2.2 (or at least v. 2.1.1). I will work on that this weekend.

Friday is upon us...

It has been a pretty crazy, stressful kind of week, so I cannot say  that I unhappy that it is almost over...

Last night was fun, though - although traffic was horrible.  I set off for Douglas Corner with a GPS estimated arrival time of 6:04p.m.  After I got stopped by a train that came to a complete stop.  After an unsuccessful attempt to find some way around (the train was blocking several main roads), I ended up back where I started, but the train had finally cleared. I finally arrived around 6:25p.m. or so and fortunately, the music had just started.  It was a songwriter's round that included Mike Cullison and a singer-songwriter named Arielle - who impressed me highly.

I left there and headed to The 5 Spot to catch the last 45 minutes or so of Paul Burch's residency show.  His outstanding band included Fats Kaplin and two bass players.

Finally, I ended my jaunt at The Family Wash for an incredible performance by Annie McCue. McCue is from Australia but surely has an honorary East Nashville membership card. 

Got to hang with some awesome folks at each of those shows.

As I was writing this, I got the official word, that yours truly and Sue Havlish will be the hosts of an hour long radio show on the brand new low power community radio station WXNA. The show (Double Shot with Joe and Sue) will be every Friday from 2:00 to 3:00p.m.  As soon as the launch date is announced, I will let you know.

Friday means, that I hit shuffle from the "Featured Friday" playlist- so without much more ado - let's get to it!
