Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Angel's Kisses Mix

The Drift - A Novel by Joe Wolfe-Mazeres Available at Amazon.com (Kindle edition also available)

It's Thanksgiving Eve, and I am winding down my work week - before having/taking 5 days in a row off. More than likely, this will be last shuffle before next Tuesday, but there is a chance I may sneak in a special shuffle...

My experience with thankfulness/gratitude is that it is most needed when you least feel it.

Sending wishes for safe travel to all those on the road for the holiday.  I am especially thinking of those facing the holiday away from family or facing a first holiday without a special someone.

For those in Canada - retroactively apply these thoughts to last month.  For those outside the U.S., you may ignore - but thankfulness is universal. Peace!

Here's the Wild Wednesday shuffle to today!

"Summer Wine" by Steve Wynn and Julie Christensen

On a sub-freezing morning, the thought of summer wine was welcome. This is a fairly rare version of the Lee Hazlewood song - made famous by Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra in their 1967 release. This cover features Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate/ The Baseball Project) along with E2TG favorite Julie Christensen. I could not fimd a video of this recording - it likely doesn't exist - so I included a track from Steve Wynn's classic solo album Kerosene Man - one of my favorites - which featured Julie Christensen on background vocals.

"Fantasy Island" by The Shins

Next up, we have a track from Heartworms - the fifth and most recent (2017) album by indie rock band The Shins.

"John Proctor's Lament" by Drew Worthley

Next up, we have U.K. singer-songwriter Drew Worthley with a track from his album Crucible. The album was released in 2015, and it is his second release. With the album title Crucible, one assumes that this song references the landowner hanged during the Salem Witch Trails.

"Ball of String" by The Minerals

Sometimes, it takes us a long time to get to songs. We actually featured the b-side of the single of this song back in 2016 - almost two years ago exactly. The Minerals are a band from South Wales Valley - as in Wales - U.K. - not be mistaken for New South Wales. I love their sound a lot. I could not find a single video of the band, so I will embed this track for you to hear.  The song was included on their self-titled album.

"The Hanging" by Grant Peeples and The Peeples Republik (feat. Eliza Gilkyson)

Next up, we have one of my favorite Grant Peeples songs - from his album Punishing the Myth. This moving anti-death penalty song features the gorgeous vocals of Eliza Gilkyson.

"The Sound of Bells" by Ashleigh Flynn and the Riveters

The shuffle has been hitting the Ashleigh Flynn and the Riveters album pretty hard these past couple of weeks. I got to see Ashleigh Flynn perform during Americana Fest - at the Tennessee Brew Works showcase. I first saw her on a $2 Tuesday - when she performed Todd Snider's "Play a Train Song" and was joined - unexpectedly by Snider.  Next, I saw her at a garden/house concert.

"Wino" by Bob Frank

It seems somehow appropriate that we close out the shuffle that began with "Summer Wine" with the song, "Wino". This is a track on the classic self-titled album by Bob Frank - released to critical acclaim in 1972.  Frank was born in Memphis. He caught the attention of legendary producer and musician Jim Dickenson - who has covered Franks songs. Frank has shared the stage with Townes Van Zandt, Tim Buckley, Lightning Hopkins and more.
