Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Words No Music A Reading coming Thursday, November 15, 2018 6:30pm Radio Cafe Nashville. No Cover, tips accepted and books will be for sale. We have an incredible line-up featuring David Olney,  Rod Picott, Luke Powers, Rebecca Weiner Tompkins, and yours truly. All but me are incredible musicians and songwriters, but for this show - they will let their words speak for them without music.  I will be reading from The Drift plus some selections from a forthcoming book.   FACEBOOK EVENT HERE!

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.
(From The Drift - A Novel by Joe Wolfe-Mazeres) Available at Amazon.com (Kindle edition also available)

If you have read The Drift, please consider writing a review on Amazon. If you haven't read it, you can get your own copy through Amazon or if you are in Nashville, you can get them from me.

Well - the election is over. The results were mixed. There were bitter disappointments, but I am choosing to focus on the positives that came out of yesterday.  Moreover, I am committed to doing my part to make this a kinder nation.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is mid-week, and that means it is time for another installment of "Wild Wednesday" at E2TG. A shuffle that comes from all of the songs saved to my phone's memory. You never know what will come up. We have a pretty interesting mix that covers several different genres. Let's go!

"Damn Your Soul" by Walter Lure and the Waldos

First up, we have a track from the latest album by a founding member of Johnny Thunder's Heartbreakers.  After the Johnny Thunder's death, Walter Lure formed the Waldos - with which he continues to perform - while also working as a stock broker.  Wacka Lacka Boom Bop A Loom Bam Boo was released back in August. It is the first album of new music in 24 years.

"Drive" by Hayes Carll

Next up, we have a track from Texas singer-songwriter, Hayes Carll from his 2016 fifth studio album, Lovers and Leavers. This is the lead track on the album, and it was co-written by Carll and Jim Lauderdale.

"Like I Used to Be" by Tymon Dogg

Next up, we have a track from Made of Light - the 2015 solo album by Tymon Dogg - which we featured heavily a couple of years ago. Dogg - is best known for his work with Joe Strummer in the Mescaleros. Tymon Dogg also played on Sandinista! and Combat Rock by The Clash.  Made of Light is his seventh full-length solo album - his first was released in 1976.

"Wrong Shoes" by Neville and Sugary Staple

So far in this shuffle, we have had songs by former members of The Heartbreakers and Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros - so how about we have one by a former member of The Specials - Neville Staple along with his wife Sugary Staple. We have been featuring songs from their recent album, Rude Rebels. Here is another great track from that album.  I have been enjoying this album quite a lot.

"Moments of Silence" by Extravision

Next up, we have a long-overdue first listen to the album Waking Up - by Iowa - psych folk/indie folk band Extravision. As sometimes happens - due to the fact that I use random shuffles to select playlists - this album took a little while to come up. It was released early in 2018.  I'm digging it, and I hope more from this album comes up soon.

"Gum Boy" by Cup

Next, we have a track from Jitter Visions by Brooklyn band, Cup. Cup came to my attention maybe a year ago - or a little less with their previous album Hiccup - which was followed closely by this albun.  Hiccup was release almost exactly a year ago.  Jitter Visions came out back in April. Tym Wojcik is the primary member/songwriter/producer of Cup. They have quickly become an E2TG favorite.

"Old Child Country Star" by Adam Carroll

Next up, we have a great song from Texas songwriter Adam Carroll off of his 2014 album Let it Choose You.  Adam and Chris Carroll have been raising money via Kickstarter to record two new album. One album will be an Adam Carroll solo album, the other will be a duo album with Chris Carroll.  The fundraiser reached it's goal on November 1 - but there is still a few hours left to join and get some of the great rewards.  Check it out here

"Lester Leaps In" by Count Basie

"Lester Leaps In" is a jazz standard written by Lester Young and first recorded by Count Basie in 1939. William James "Count" Basie's career lasted 60 years from 1924 until his death in 1984.  Basie was a jazz composer, pianist and organist, and bandleader (he formed The Count Basie Orchestra in 1935).

"Hurricane" by Amy Speace

Nashville singer-songwriter Amy Speace is up next with a track from his album Same Old Storm which was released in 2014.  We most recently, heard from Speace as part of the group Applewood Road - which we featured last year. Speace is originally from Baltimore - but she is a valuable part of the Nashville music community.

"Middle of Everything" by George Trouble

We close things out with track from PLOW by Asheville, North Carolina singer-songwriter George Trouble.  George Trouble is the nom de plume of George Terry McDonald.  McDonald was part of the first official E2TG show - back in 2015, and we just hooked back up with him this year with two of his recent releases: PLOW and Jawbone by his band The Zealots.
