I have been so inspired of late, watching friends having their dreams come true in so many ways.... The Americana Music Association announced their final group of artists for next months festival, and I was so happy to see some good friends on the list (many of them making their debuts as official showcase artists). Several people who may have read about on E2TG are on the list including the most recent two Artist of the Year!
Seeing the Foresters and others from the Dord Music Group - absolutely killing it at Athens PopFest and getting an amazing opportunity to play alongside their heroes from the Elephant 6 collective.
See friends releasing new albums and getting the opportunities to play "big" shows...
It moves me to do more with the opportunities I have been given.

Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Six Pack and a Bottle of Gin Mix

Well, the weather has moderated somewhat in Nashville, and it was a very nice night to hang out on the patio at Drifter's in East Nashville and hear Tim Carroll and Luella play some cool tunes. Tim, Luella, and the band (Toby Caldwell and Cameron Carrus) will be at The 5 Spot tonight for Tim's weekly Rock 'n' Roll Happy Hour show (no cover (mind the tip jar) and cheap drinks). It is always one of my picks of the week, and this week in particular they will have the incredible Reeves Gabrels sitting in on guitar. Reeves played with David Bowie for several years, and he is currently the guitarist for The Cure who have been touring the US. I have seen him play with Tim and band before and he is awesome. Unfortunately, I cannot make it, but I do highly recommend it if you are able.
Before I went to Drifter's I caught some of the last week of Don Gallardo's month-long residency at The 5 Spot. His guest was Carey Ott, who was amazing. Don Gallardo and How Far West are simply one of my favorite bands around. Don Gallardo will be having his CD Release show in July at The Family Wash. More details will follow.
I should also mention that the radio show I co-host with Sue Havlish (Double Shot with Joe and Sue) will be on the air tomorrow morning at 11 (central time). Our theme this week, is "One Hit Wonders" and includes some folks that I bet you do not think about as one hit wonders (and some you may).
On Monday which is July 4, The East Nashvillian will be hosting Independence Day - a benefit for WXNA-LP (where Double Shot airs). The benefit will be held at The Family Wash in East Nashville and will run from Noon - 11:00pm. There is a $5 suggested donation, and music will be provided by various WXNA DJs - while others of us will be hanging out. Come spend the or an hour or so with us. Sue and I will be there at least from 12-2 (and I will likely be there most of the day). More info at the Facebook Event Page (HERE)
For the first time in over a week, I made time to add some new tunes to the playlists and a couple of those new tunes came up today. It is Featured Friday - for this first day of July.

And I am back... I think I caught a bit of summer cold that kind of knocked me out yesterday, but I am feeling mostly better today.
Let's see: Friday night, I took in another fun Tim Carroll Rock 'n' Roll Happy Hour at The 5 Spot.
Saturday: The day began with a live broadcast of Double Shot with Joe and Sue (and our topic was "Our Favorite Years" - namely 1968 for Sue and 1985 for Joe), then I headed to Two Old Hippies where I saw Adeem the Artist perform a really entertaining set of mostly original music (plus a nice mash-up of Margaritaville and Feliz Navidad. Later, I finally got to the brand new Radio Cafe which has not yet officially opened. The weather was hot Saturday but Mark Robinson and his band were even hotter. A really cool singer-songwriter named Greg Rich (who learned guitar from Mark Robinson back in Indiana) opened the night. As someone remarked, you could have put together a hell of a band just from the people in attendance. I ended my Saturday at an awesome after-NAMM party hosted by Richie Owens and his family.
This week is filled with "Nashville Dilemma" moments which makes this summer cold particularly annoying. Tonight at the Family Wash, it is Pint and Pie night and Short Sets with Tim McNary and Brooklyn band Leland Sundries on the bill.

Trying to coast toward the end of the week and into the long holiday weekend...
Last night, having caught up on sleep the night before, I headed out despite threatening weather to catch the last night of Kevin Gordon's residency at The 5 Spot. Gordon opening solo - showing of the intricacies of his songs and the richness of his voice and guitar work. He even threw in a cover of Richard Thompson's "Keep Your Distance".
Then with his band, he flat out rocked the house. Advice, if you get the chance to see Kevin Gordon live, go see him.
After that show ended, I headed to one of my favorite new venues, The Country. I got there in the middle of Sean Rivers set, and I was really impressed. Great songs and a rocking sound. Next up was E2TG favorite Zachariah Red with a six piece band that featured a lot of cool folks - including Taylor Alexander, Drew Kohl, and Tim Ryssemus of Ricca Vita. I have been following Zach since I met him over a year and a half ago, and I have to say he is sounding better than ever. I really fun set that included an Eagles cover and a Marshall Tucker cover along with songs from Zach's last two records.
Last of the bill was Jason Martin who played really heavy but melodic rock. Josh Waters played guitar with both Rivers and Martin.
All in all, a fun night and I enjoyed seeing a bunch awesome people.
Today in the Featured Friday shuffle, we have a pretty diverse mix of music... so enjoy...

EVENT ALERT! May 18 E2TG 5 Year Extravaganza! The 5 Spot - East Nashville! 9pm!
Yesterday was one of those days that you just want to throw on the scrapheap of existence and forget about... I was feeling under the weather a bit - which didn't help - and then every possible thing seemed to go wrong. But, it's a new day. I drove and walked to work under the threat of storms. Thunder and lightning... I had a pretty sweet mix of songs to accompany me on the trek... sit back and let me tell you about it and then you can listen to a close approximation of that mix of songs (video-style wise).

Also, expect more details about the forthcoming E2TG Five Year Anniversary Party (5/18 at The 5 Spot). Just trying to lock down the final details.
Maybe, probably less soon, expect some information about the future of E2TG (it's so bright, I have to wear shades - how is that for a relatively obscure - nearly 30 year old reference).
In the meantime, it is Tuesday when we take a look at what is "Trending" on E2TG....
