Friday Morning Music Shuffle - Kiss Me Once, Kiss Me Twice Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I try really hard not to pay attention to things like page views - I really do, but a couple of things have happened in the last 24 hours that I am pretty happy about.  My total Page Views since I switched the blog to Blogger a little over 3 years ago reached one of those milestones with lots of zeros. The number isn't really important because it is all relative. I mean, I know some of those brand x music blogs probably achieve the same number is a month or week or day or hour or whatever, and that is the part I don't really care about.  It's just nice to see those zeros and know that among those site views are people who come to enjoy the music that I am so happy to feature.

The other thing (and rather inexplicably) but the daily site views for the current 24 hour period has exploded. I know I owe a big thanks to the people who share my posts across the webbernets....  It's still not that important because I have a great shuffle today and for all I know something like 12 people will look at it, and if I don't get too worried about that, I can't really get to excited for the higher numbers... but I do.  And I thank everyone for it.

As I said, we have a great shuffle with some old friends and some newer ones and some classic tunes...

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - R-E-A-C-T Mix

"There's a splinter in your eye..."    Todays shuffle has it all (or it has a bunch of it, or at least some of it....):  Old and new friends of E2TG, heroes, legends! Crossing stylistic boundaries without any hesitation! Crossing decades of music like we have a freaking time machine!  This is what we do at Ear to the Ground!     Look, my viral infection is lingering, yesterday's 60 degree high is in free-fall, it is a sucky rainy day that is supposed to give way to all kinds of frozen junk which this Southern city is ill equipped to handle, and so I am just trying to maintain the kind of enthusiasm this eclectic and fine mix of music deserves.  Sorry for any unnecessary hyperbole or manic-ness of the above introduction....

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle - Like Charlie Sheen Mix

Sorry there was no Shuffle yesterday, I got bit by a nasty late winter bug... I'm still not 100% but I am fighting through it...

To make up for not having a shuffle - please enjoy this video playlist tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy...

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - Changing Everything Mix

I am ridiculously short on time, and I will be out of town the next two days so no shuffles until Thursday.  I am going to be quick, but if you have more time than I do, please give these great songs the attention they deserve.  I found videos for most of the songs.  The only one I didn't find was the Mothers song, and I will put a link to their bandcamp page so you can listen and/or buy.

UPDATE:7:05pm CST - I actually ran out of time to get this posted earlier.  As I said, I will be off of blogging for a couple of days, but I'm sure you can keep yourselves entertained.

Well let's get to it. Due to an unplanned change in schedule and some wicked traffic patterns, we had an extended set of music for the day.... complaining? who me?

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - The Box Principle Mix

So here we go it's Monday, and we have some good stuff going down this week.  Tomorrow, Cosmonauts are unveiling a brand new song, and we have an interview with the band to help kick that off.  Meanwhile, voting for Band of the Month is going hot and heavy. Right now, Loners Society hold a lead over Rooftop Runners followed by The Imperial Rooster.  But, we are still in the early stages of voting which will run until right at Midnight on the 31st of August.

This morning, our shuffle takes us into our Revolving Random playlist and offers up some tasty tunes.  So, let's get to it.

First up, we have an alternate take of a classic song from the late, great Warren Zevon.  Desperados Under the Eaves   has the dual distinction of being one of the coolest songs of all time, and utilizing two words which I wished showed up in my daily life more often (Desperados and Eaves). The version today is from the Preludes collection of rare and unreleased songs.

Next, we have a sweet dose of Southern mysticism backed by now legendary jangly guitars.  We have the sounds of a band hitting their stride.  We have Maps and Legends by R.E.M. from the Fables of the Reconstruction album (1985).

Up next, we have Seattle-based singer-songwriter Damien Jurado with a track from his 2010 album, St. Bartlett. Arkansas contains the characteristic murky goodness we've come to expect from Mr. Jurado.

And finally, we have a track from one of our Bands of the Week from last year. The track is on the album Dead Letters by Sealight which was the first album we reviewed here at ear to the ground.  La Nieve Del Tiempo literally translates as Snow Time, and it is chill-inducing, beautiful music.

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - David Hall Rocks Ya'll Mix

The Nashville progressive rock radio world suffered a devastating loss this weekend with news of the passing of David Hall from my favorite radio station Lightning 100.  Today's shuffle is dedicated to him...

The Monday after the Super Bowl should definitely be a holiday - I mean really... Lots of people are talking about Madonna's half-time performance.  I  come down on the side of good for what it was.   That may sound critical, but it's really not.  I've heard some people making comparisons to Springsteen and Tom Petty, but really I don't think those are fair comparisons.

In summary, I'm still waiting for them to bring back Up with People.

The Shuffle:

First up is Justin Townes Earle from the Buddy Holly tribute compilation - Rave On - doing Maybe Baby.

Next up is a alternate take on Warren Zevon's Poor Poor Pitiful Me.

And then comes, the fabulous Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes (featuring Teddy Pendergrast) with Satisfaction Guaranteed (or Get Your Love Back).

And finally, a song from Volume 3 of the Ten Out of Tenn collective.  It's Andrew Belle with Katie Herzig and the song, Static Waves.
