We move steadily into a new week full of promise and doubt.  And here in Nashville... rain... something something rainy days and Mondays...

But Monday here at E2TG means Music City Monday... but first...

We continue our recap of this week's Featured Friday Playlist with songs 13-18:

13. "I am DRAGON!" by Feralman

From the recently release Chapters 35-43 - this is our second track to feature from Australian  singer-songwriter Feralman.

14. "Country Queen" by Toler Gibson

The first taste of The Days Before - the debut album by the California band featuring Kenneth Gibson and Gavin Toler. The album is due out in May. 

15. "A Hit of Love" by Larry Folk

Next up, we have a COVID response single from the forthcoming Embracing Folk EP.  Larry Folk is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose career dates back to the mid 1970s. His most recent album In the Moonlight was released back in September. 

16. "For Love" by My Name is Ian

Next up, we have the lead single from Fantastic Company which is due out in June. My Name is Ian is a Alt-Electronic band from Cardiff Wales. 

17. "Let Me Be Your Moonlight - Radio Edit" by Round Roomers

Next up, we have a release from Round Room Music who solicited poems from around the world to be transformed into music by Nashville musicians.  The poem that produced this song was written by a Baker from Belgium Jimmy Coenen and performed by Alabama native and Nashville musician Chad Wilson. The music was written Andy Dixon. 

18. "Sucker Punch" by The L.A. Maybe 

And we close with second single by this heavy rock band based in The Carolinas.

Featured Friday Playlist (Songs 11-16):

11. "This Life Must Be Long" by Roof Beams

First up today, we have the title track of the new album by D.C. Alt-folk/Americana band Roof Beams - named for a Salinger novella.  It is their first album since 2016.

12. "Terrible Dad" by Slow Coyote

Next up, we have a track from the new album, Family Man, by the New Hampshire based project of singer-songwriter Lucas Perry.  The sound combines grunge, folk, rock, and blues in a most interesting way. 

13. "Come on Over" by Domenic Cicala

Next up, we have the title track off the new album by this Washington D.C. songwriter. The album is a covers/duets album. This track is a cover of a 1975 Barry and Robin Gibb song performed with Rachel Harrington. Other singers on the album include Jaimee Harris and BettySoo.  The songwriters covered include Townes Van Zandt, Fred Eaglesmith, Donnie Frits, and Dave Alvin and Rosie Flores. 

14. "You Can't Fall in Love For the Sake of It" by Boxteles

Next, the latest single from this UK indie band.  Great sound. 

15. "Hands Off" by Rylan Brooks

Next, we have our second featured song from the forthcoming If Wishes Were Horses (March 12) by this Outlaw Country duo.  The album, you may recall, was recorded in Nashville with an impressive lineup of musicians. 

16. "Whiskey" by DL Rossi 

 We close this segment of music with the first single from the forthcoming album, Lonesome Kind (April 23) - the third album from Michigan based singer-songwriter DL Rossi.  This was a great introduction for me to this impressive songwriter. More to come.

In the past couple of days, two musician friends of mine have tested positive for COVID-19.  All the relevant numbers are on the rise across the country.  There is virtually no relief from our government at any level which means it is up to "We the People".  Take all necessary precautions.  Forgo unncessary gatherings.  Stay in as much as possible, wear masks and practice social distancing when you must go out.  This promises to be a long, dark winter. This is not political... the election is over. This is about listening to scientists and what they are saying today - not rehashing some interview from February that may contradict what is being said today.  Take every precaution you can - the worst thing will be that you were too cautious and were temporarily inconvenienced. The best thing is that you might help slow the spread of a virus that has the potential to cause long-term negative health effects and even to cause death. 

I'm going to try to recap the rest of this week's Featured Friday Playlist in three days so I can take Thanksgiving off... so today, we will feature songs 9-16:

9. "This Disease" by Wilder Embry

We start off with a track from a fairly recent EP called Great Tornado by this Nashville based singer-songwriter and Georgia native. A friend of mine mentioned his music, and I checked it out, and I really liked it. 

10. "In the City" by Tower Defense

Next up, we have the title track from the brand new album by this long-running Nashville punk band. My DJ partner Sue met these some of these guys at Dee's and played one of their older songs on our old radio show. 

11. "The Edge" by Adam Wright

Next up, another recent single from a Nashville based songwriter that I was clued into by a friend. Again, I gave a listen - as I do, and I loved what I heard. 

12. "Man on TV" by Josh King

Next up, we have a track from the new album by North Carolina based folk/rock singer-songwriter Josh King. The album was recorded under quarantine with assistance from two of his former band mates from the band House of Fools.  

13. "My First Friend" by Grant Hill & M.O.S.

Next, we have the first single from the forthcoming new album by California singer-songwriter Grant Hill and his band M.O.S.  This one resonated with me very strongly. 

14. "Over You" by Burris

Next, we have the title track from the new album by this New Orleans based folk band. The band's sophomore album is a two-parter. Over You Part 1 is out now. An melodic, emotion-packed song.

15. "Harlem River Blues" by Steve Earle

The first taste of Steve Earle's heart-wrenching tribute album to his late son Justin Townes is out. Harlem River Blues is one of the younger Earle's most popular songs, and the lyrics hit hard in the tragic new context of his life.

16. "Too High to Cross the Street (Too Drunk to Care)" by Uncle Sexy and the Nephews

And, we close out this long segment of music with one that actually came to me via my Spotify Release Radar - which is only did because the song is a collaboration between Dee Oh Gee (formerly Blackfoot Gypsies) and Uncle Sexy and the Nephews - a really fascinating band from Chicago that I am just now getting to know.  A great song.

This morning, we send love and light to the family and friends of Justin Townes Earle who passed away yesterday at the age of 38.  I know some of my friends knew him well and worked with him over the years, and along with his family, they are especially on my mind and in my heart today....

Today, we review the next group of songs from this week's Playlist (songs 9-15):

9. "Precious Cargo" by Ben Arthur

We start off this segment of music with another new song from E2TG favorite Ben Arthur (singer-songwriter, podcaster, and award-winning host of Songcraft Presents). This is, I suppose, another track from his forth-coming new album.  The new season of his Song-Writer Podcast is streaming now most places you listen to podcasts. 

10. "Free Advice" by Cindy

Next up, we have the title track to the new album by San Francisco band Cindy. The album is out on Mount Saint Mountain Records. Cool sound. I dig it.

11. "Married Man" by Gina Sicilia

Next up, we have a brand new single from East Nashville favorite Gina Sicilia. The song was produced and co-written by Cody Dickinson. The horns and strings were recorded in Memphis, and the vocals were recorded in Nashville by Dave Coleman. Wonderful song. 

12. "Soy un Clon" by Drollery

Next up, we have some punk rock sounds from south-east Spain. The EP CAERBANNOG is the band's debut, and it falls into the punk 'n' roll genre that is gaining in popularity in Spain - with the sound and energy of punk rock with attention to musicality than some traditional punk. 

13. "In My Own City" by Pozzi

 We have been featuring Pozzi in recent Playlists, and his album Tyrant is finally out. This track really hit a note with me. Although, he is singing about his city, Los Angeles, I sometimes feel like a tourist in my city - Nashville. 

14. "Sum Total of Insolent Blank" by Santa Sprees

Santa Sprees is an Anglo-Japanese band who have nine releases under their belt. The latest, of which this is the title track, is a 43 track album, to be honest, I am still figuring this band out, but I am really digging everything I have heart. A great addition to the shuffle. 

15. "Pass By (Stripped) [Live]" by Swim

A stripped-down acoustic take on one of the singles by this New York band.  A wonderful song and a great way to close out this segment of music.

It is Friday, and that means it is time for another Featured Friday Playlist!  This week's list is slightly shorter than recent weeks but it is jam packed with wonderful music - as usual, our selections come from all over the world, cross almost every conceivable genre.  Because the list was short, there are some special treats in this week's list that might otherwise not have made the list.
