It is Friday, and that means it is time for another Featured Friday Playlist!  This week's list is slightly shorter than recent weeks but it is jam packed with wonderful music - as usual, our selections come from all over the world, cross almost every conceivable genre.  Because the list was short, there are some special treats in this week's list that might otherwise not have made the list. I hope you enjoy and please follow the list on Spotify if you are so moved.

Featured Friday (Songs 1-6)

"If Climate Change Don't Change Your Mind" by Reckless Johnny Wales

I got to spend a little time with the one and only Reckless Johnny this week (safely), and we listened to a few tracks from his brand new album before the heat and a neighbors lawnmower caused us to retreat. If you don't know about Reckless Johnny, he is the alter-ego of Bob Saporiti (or is that vice-versa). Saporiti is a retired Music Row executive who discovered Faith Hill (and many others) and he won the CMA Founding President's Award.  Reckless Johnny is a straight talking, straight-shooting troubadour with a colorful backstory.  A Veteran of the Vietnam War, he arrived in San Francisco and moved to Nashville in the early seventies - where his status as a real hippie earned him respect and awe.  On his new album, Reckless Johnny faces a country in crisis, but one he still believes in.  This track delivers a solid, unwavering, and effective message about one of our planet's greatest threats. The album was co-produced by Reckless Johnny and Brett Ryan Stewart. 

"Opening Night" by The Blam Blams

Two weeks ahead of the release of their debut full-length, Nashville's The Blam Blam release the title track. As a former theater kid, the song captures the nervous energy and palpable excitement of being backstage on opening night. I am so digging the direction this band is headed, and I can't wait until I can see them live. 

"Wolves Outside the Door" by Benchmarks; Lydia Loveless

A week ahead of the release of their third albun, Nashville's Benchmarks release a second a set of singles. This track features Lydia Loveless - the roots rock singer-songwriter from Columbus, Ohio.  Summer, Slowly will be released on the 21st. I got a sneak-listen, and it is going to be good. 

"Roses" by Skylar Gregg

We have featured pre-release single, but Nashville's Skylar Gregg's new album is out today, and we have the title track. I was a bit late to her music, but she definitely has earned her place among the many great Nashville songwriters and singers. 

"Feeling in a Song" by Sugarcane Jane

We have been featuring music from Ten Penny Gypsy - whose two albums to date have been produced by Anthony Crawford. Today, we have a track from the Crawford's band Sugarcane Jane - called Ruffled Feathers: Songs in the Key of Me.  Sugarcane Jane features Crawford along-side his wife Savana Lee. Collectively, the Alabama based duo are part of the supergroup Willie Sugarcapps with Will Kimbrough and Grayson Capps. 

"Yesterday's World" by Circulatory System

We close today's segment of music with one of those special treats. This is the opening track to the 2001 debut album by the Athens, Georgia based ensemble led by Will Cullen Hart (Olivia Tremor Control).  The album is being reissued (on vinyl for the first time) by the relaunched Elephant 6 label. Hart designed the Elephant 6 logo and he also designed a logo for Dord Music Group (founded by our friends The Foresters).
