Our weekly recap kicks off today after the jump with the first 8 songs.... We will recap the rest of the playlist in this space beginning on Monday.
1. "Sweet Krazy" by Stuffy Shmitt
We are now two weeks away from the release of Stuffy Shmitt's new album Stuff Happens, and he just released the final pre-release single today. This follow up to the bittersweet "Mommy and Daddy" is a more rocking number. Can't wait for the album to come out.
2. "Nacho Business" by Ghost Town Remedy
We have featured several singles from Nashville's Ghost Town Remedy, and today their new album Dry Spell is out! Ghost Town Remedy are a rock band with punk spirit. They are often silly but have demonstrated the ability to be serious when the want to be. This track falls on the fun/silly side...
3. "Oceans Are Rising" by The Smoking Flowers
The Smoking Flowers remain one of my favorite bands - favorite to see live when that was a thing but their recorded output holds up equally well. This is their second new single in recent weeks, and once again, Scott and Kim Collins have somethings they want to say. I recommend listening.
4. "Diamonds" by Homeboy Loves You
Yesterday, I did my 4th Greetings from Nashville Covers show, and I am almost ready for the 5th edition, and it seems likely to include this Rihanna cover by the Nashville based duo of Preston Cochran (of E2TG Band of the Year Ryan Sobb & the Dead Mall and Scottie Prudhoe - who is an engineer at Trace Horse Studio.
5. "Familiar Ground" by John Calvin Abney
Tulsa-based singer-songwriter John Calvin Abney has released his new album, and we have the title track in the Playlist today. We have previously featured some of the pre-release singles from the album. Abney is an amazing songwriter.
6. "Keeping the Dream Alive" by Microwave Mountain
Another brand new single from E2TG favorites Microwave Mountain! Yeah!
7. "Holy Land Fervor!" by Merrill Beach
Merrill Beach is the current main project (I think) of E2TG favorite Hayden Nork (The Foresters, Batkhi Dahn, et. al.). He released this debut album Roller Disco Lion Songs earlier this year on bandcamp, and it is now on Spotify, so I thought I would feature this lead track.
8. "Orange" by I Am a Rocketship
I just featured an older I Am A Rocketship song earlier this week in the shuffle and unbeknownst to me, the Atlanta based duo were just about to release a new album - which they have. This is the title track from oRAnGE. Great stuff.
