Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Super Size Me Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

The E2TG 8th Anniversary is now only SIX DAYS away!

September 25 - Week 1: Ben Arthur + Conrad y Skordalia

October 2 - Week 2: Ryan Sobb + Don Gallardo

October 9 - Week 3: The Truehearts + Jason Erie

October 16 - Week 4:  Josh Gray  + Meghan Hayes

October 23 - Week 5: Microwave Mountain + The Big Dumb

I am getting very excited for the E2TG 8th Anniversary Residency.  We have big announcement coming very soon!

Time to dive into the Trending Thursday shuffle!

"Just to Feel the Wind" by David G. Smith

We start things off today with a track from Who Cares, the new album from singer-songwriter David G. Smith.  The album is filled with great songs - like this one. David G. Smith does care - as demonstrated not only through the humanity expressed through his songs, but in his actions via his HeyDaveMusic efforts through which he gives back to  every community through which his music takes him.

"Best I've Ever Had" by Anders Dahlberg

We have our second track in as many days from Norwegian singer-songwriter Anders Dahlberg. I am digging this album.  Thanks again to Rune Letrud for getting this into my hands.

"Just the Way" by Libby Koch

Last week, during AmericanaFest, I stopped by  The 5 Spot for the Broken Jukebox Media unofficial showcase.  Broken Jukebox has sent me a ton of great music over the last few years.  The showcase opened with three Texas songwriters sharing the stage. Chuck Hawthorne - whose new album we have been covering, Terry Klein (who has appeared on several albums that we have been featuring), and Libby Koch. This is our first listen to Redemption 10 which is due out October 18. The album celebrates the 10th anniversary of Koch's first album Redemption.  The original album was a solo acoustic album - this new release gives the full-band treatment to those songs. The band is made up by Austin, Texas all-stars. Our old friend Patterson Barrett co-produced the album.  Great stuff!

"Lot 2 Parking Guide" by Them Airs

Connecticut based Them Airs were set to release a new EP any day now, but they decided instead that they had enough material for a full-length album (expected now in November). This goes back to their Echo Park Bomb City release from earlier this summer. This track explores the band's more experimental tendencies.

"Interlude" by WesdaRuler

Ocean Drive is out as of last Friday. Athens based hip hop artist known as WesdaRuler started out making beats from other artists before stepping out front in more recent years. Really cool stuff.

"Ring of Fire" by Katrina Parker

A scintillating cover of the June Carter Cash/Merle Kilgore song originally recorded by June's sister Anita and later by her husband Johnny Cash. Parker - an LA based singer-songwriter and former contestant on The Voice turns in a powerful performance here - from the album Stars.

"The Auteur (Redux/The Starlet's Cut)" by David J

We have featured this song once before - as a single - now it is our first track to feature from Missive To An Angel From The Halls Of Infamy And Allure - the new album which will be out October 18.  David J (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets) has assembled a cast which features members of Brian Jonestown Massacre (Anton Newcombe co-produced the album), Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Swans, Luna plus contributions from Asia Argento and on this track - actress, activist, and writer Rose McGowan.

"Technical College" by Neutrals
Oakland based punk band Neutrals return to the shuffle with another track from their excellent Kabab Disco. Wonderful classic sounding punk rock music.

"Crack the Red" by The Pull of Autumn

Next, we have another track from Afterglow - the most recent released by Boston based The Pull of Autumn - another all-star endeavor.  Wonderful music.

"Fault Line" by Shane Alexander

Singer-songwriter Shane Alexander will be releasing his seventh album A Life Like Ours tomorrow. Fault Line is a wonderful song. Check it out.

"You Know How to Make a Grown Man Cry" by Will Payne Harrison
East Nashville singer-songwriter Will Payne Harrison is next in the shuffle with another track from his new album Living With Ghosts.  Songwriting his at the forefront of this wonderful album.

"Super Size Me" by Magnapop

We close with a first listen to the new album (due out September 27) from Atlanta based alt-rock pioneers Magnapop from The Circle is Round which is being released by HHBTM Records- the Athens based record label. I am super excited to be featuring this album.
