*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.
And we are back! Americana Fest 2019 is officially over. I had a blast. I don't have time for any sort of official recap, but suffice it to say, I didn't see everything I wanted to see, I missed some great events put on by great people, I overdid it and had to bail on some stuff for the sake on my self... But, I had the time of my life, got to meet some of my biggest musical heroes, caught up with out-of-town friends, watched by friends kick all sort of ass on stages big and small.
Despite my jokes throughout the week, I didn't pace myself and I crashed and burned by the end of the weekend, and you know what, next year, I will probably do the same thing.

On with the Music City Monday Shuffle!
"Somebody Else's Money" by Stuffy Shmitt
We start things off with Stuffy Shmitt with a song originally released on his 2002 album Dog Steal the Moon. We are counting down to the release of some new music from Stuffy!
"Winnemucca... Slight Return" by Sergio Webb
Next up, we have the great Sergio Webb with a track from his album Boliver Blues. Best known as a sideman (and a mind-blowingly good guitar player), Sergio Webb is also a wonderful songwriter and solo artist - as heard here.
"Good As She Could Be" by John Hiatt
We have a pair of John Hiatt recordings in the shuffle today. The first song was originally released on his 1995 album Walk On. This recording comes from a 1999 compilation called 2 Meter Sessions Vol. 6 - that also featured Radiohead, Big Country, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Nick Lowe, Connells, Jayhawks and more.
"Bonaparte's Retreat" by Fats Kaplin
A classic from the debut album by The Fatman. The Fatman Cometh. Nashville is lucky to have the opportunity to see Fats Kaplin and his gang (including Kristi Rose) almost every month at The 5 Spot. Fats is an amazing multi-instrumentalist, composer, magician, etc.
"Hush Angel Blue" by Raging Fire
One of the best bands of Nashville's 80s rock era, Raging Fire - reunited in 2015 with some of that eras best filling the very large shoes of the late Michael Godsey. The reunion went so well, the band got back into the studio to make some brand new music. The 2017 release These Teeth Are Sharp features Melora Zaner, Mark Medley, John Reed, Les Shields, Jeff Cease, Joe Blanton, and more. Nashville rock royalty making music in the 2010s!
"Child of the Wind" by Michaela Anne
Next, we have a single from the forthcoming Desert Dove album by Michaela Anne which will be released one week from this coming Friday by YepRoc! Records. Child of the Wind was released back in July. Michaela Anne moved to Nashville four or five years ago and has some a long way for sure!
"Early Morning Heat" by The Singing Butcher
Timothy George is East Nashville's singing butcher who performs under the name The Singing Butcher. This is another track from his The Butcher Papers. One of the eastside's most under-rated songwriters (who are this people who keep under-rating great artists?).
"Robber's Highway" by John Hiatt
Next up, we have a track from the most recent studio album of the great John Hiatt. The Eclipse Sessions was released in 2018 and finds one of Nashville's best in fine form.
"Cater To Your Ego" by Self
Between the 1980s heyday and the current era of Nashville's non-Music Row music community, there was Self and it's frontman Matt Mahaffey and the label he founded Spongebath Records. This is a 1997 release (the second album by the band).
