Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Hey Lawdy Mama Mix (Moose Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

So, I have created a Spotify Playlist that highlights some of the music featured on E2TG in 2019.  I tried to pick one song for each artist. The playlist is currently over 10 hours long - which means we got to feature a lot of music this year. I will be finalizing the playlist over the long weekend and will use it for my December shuffles - recounting some of my faves of the year.  I think I will also start phasing in some of the new features of E2TG v3.0 which will fully go live in January.  For now, I am going to stay with Blogger but I may move to a new platform later.

Any way, let's close out this short week with a long Wild Wednesday shuffle that definitely lives up to the name...

"Southwestern Territory" by Mountain Goats

We get things started with the lead track from the 2015 fifteenth studio album by The Mountain Goats.  The album, Beat the Champ, is a concept record about professional wrestling.

"My Banjo Player Hates Me" by The Two Man Travelling Medicine Show

Next up, we have a track from the EP Oh Me Oh My by the eight-piece Americana/country/punk band from the UK.  The song is described as a paranoid love song to the rest of the band from lead singer Mark Lyons.

"Fluid" by The Gerbils

Next up, we have a track from the reissue of Are You Sleepy - the debut album from Athens, Georgia and Elephant 6 Collective band The Gerbils.  The album was originally released in 1998. This reissue marked the resumption of Elephant 6 as a record label.

"The Hitman" by Insane Jane

Keeping it in Georgia, we have a track from Green Little Pill by Atlanta hard rock band Insane Jane - their cult classic 1991 album.

"Where the Face of Angels Lay" by The Jackals

Next up, we have one from the E2TG archives.  We featured People by Scottish band The Jackals back in 2015.  Nice to revisit this band and this album.

"Pretty Little Pony" by Strange Majik

Thanks to the quirks of the shuffle function, we have music from Strange Majik two days in a row. Nice. This one comes from the 2017 release Deep in the Shadows. This is from a pair of releases that dealt in some way with the current state of our nation.

"Umbilicus" by Tarah Who?

Next, we have another track from 64 Women by Tarah Who? Really digging this band..

"Moose the Mooch" by Charlie Parker

Why not move on to an alternate take on the 1946 Charlie Parker composition which may have been named after a drug dealer.

"The Ballad of Flax Mill" by Tate and Silas

What better way to follow - The Bird - than with Tate and Silas - the rocking duo from Connecticut with a song from their album Third: Nothing to Lose.  I have enjoyed getting to know this fun band.

"You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" by The Byrds

We sandwich Tate and Silas with The Bird and The Byrds.  I don't plan this folks... from Sweetheart of the Rodeo - the bands country album recorded after Gram Parsons joined the band.  This is a cover of a Bob Dylan song.

"Old School" by Si Cranstoun

Next up, we have the title track to the 2016 album by the UK singers who was a busker for 20 years before being signed to a record contract.

"Modern Day Privateers (Ego Likeness Remix)" by And We All Die

Next up, we have a remix of "Modern Day Privateers" - the single from San Antonio based alternative, punk, goth, industrial band And We All Die.  From an album of remixes of this track.  This remix is by the dark electronic rock/ dark wave band from Maryland.   We featured the And We All Die release in 2018.

"Hey Lawdy Mama" by Minutemen

And we close with the Minutemen from their final EP Project Mersh - covering the Steppenwolf - because why not.   Happy Thanksgiving if you are reading from the U.S. or happy Thursday if you are not.
