(Will Kimbrough, Marshall Chapman, and Tommy Womack at Nashville Public Library 9-03-2013)
You know it is almost a literal statement that you can hardly walk a block in Nashville without walking past a songwriter. But, it is a rare and wonderful occasion to be able to see three amazing songwriters sharing songs for free in the middle of a weekday.
Today, a mostly mellowish mix of music that just kind of feels right...
JUMP first - then music...
"Arlene" by Taco Land from Pancakes and Pizza (2013) (Taco Land's gorgeous and heartfelt love song)
"One Dance Left" by The Dirty Guv'nahs from Somewhere Beneath These Southern Skies (2012) (Like a slow and lazy summer night that you just don't want to end...)
"Thank You Friends" by Big Star from Third/Sister Lovers (1978) ("All the ladies and gentlemen Who made this all so probable")
"Man" by Neko Case from The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You (2013) (Taken from ANTI Records Summer Sampler via Noisetrade)
"I'm Set Free" by The Velvet Underground from The Velvet Underground (1969)
"Recharged" by EdTang from Goodbye, Zen5, Sushi Dinner (2013) (Another strong track from this fabulous new album by EdTang)

It's almost not fair featuring all these other fine artists next to Big Star, but I liked "Arlene" very much too.
ReplyDeleteTaco Land is cool. In the interest of fairness, I always provide additional boxes when I include classic songs in the mix.
DeleteIt seems very strange not to be able to like your reply. I haven't used blogspot in ages!
