Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - This Heartbreak Town Gets Around Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Whew!  That three day weekend went by way too fast... Deep into planning the month-long E2TG Anniversary Party in May (which will be here soon!), working on Double Shot with Joe and Sue, and getting prepared to self-publish my first novel, The Drift (Follow The Drift on Facebook!).  I did manage to get out a couple of times over the weekend. Friday, I met some friends at Dee's in Madison and saw Daniel Lawrence Walker, Russell Thompson, and a bit of The Hummingbyrds.  I was going to go to the Country to see Zach Parks, Zach Red, and Drew Kohl, but I made the mistake of stopping by my apartment and my busy week caught up with me.

Saturday night, I caught The Wooly Mamas and long time E2TG faves - Year of October for a smoldering early show at The 5 Spot. Then, I headed to The Country to catch Sean Quinn and the Tremblers, Josh Morris and The Green Field, and more.  Regular reader Sue will be interested to know that Sean Quinn did a cover of the Santo and Johnny classic "Sleep Walk". This song has been a staple in Mark Robinson's set.  While I cannot guarantee that he will play that on May 3 when he kicks of the E2TG Anniversary residency at The 5 Spot, you come see and find out for yourself.

Onward - to the Music City Monday Shuffle!

"Hillbilly Thang" by BR5-49

BR5-49's shows at Robert's Western World on Lower Broadway are an important chapter in the history of Music City. This is a track recorded live at Robert's.

"Romany Dagger" by All Them Witches

All Them Witches have been adding their own chapter to the rich and diverse Nashville music history since their founding in 2012. This is a lovely instrumental from their 2013 2nd album Lightning at the Door.  The band recently released Sleeping Through the War - their fourth album - on New West Records.

"Falling Down" by Pinmonkey

Up next, we have the first of three (3) songs in the shuffle from Pinmokey.  Pinmonkey were a country music band active in the late 90s and early 2000s.  This song was included on the band's self-titled album which was released in 2002.  Pinmonkey featured drummer Rick Schell (Pure Prairie League, Allison Moorer) on drums and vocals. If you come to The 5 Spot May 3, you can see Schell as part of The Mark Robinson Band!

"This Town Was Built on Heartbreak Songs" by Jesse and Noah

Next up, we have the first single for Jesse and Noah's Southern Usonia.  The video was filmed at The Nashville Palace and on Lower Broadway.

"Big Top (Tornado)" by David Olney

Next up, we have David Olney and a track from his latest album, Don't Try to Fight It.  Remember, you can see David Olney and his band - with Sergio Webb and his band opening - on the third week of the E2TG Residency.  That is May 17!

"Every Time It Rains" by Pinmonkey

Another track from the self-titled Pinmonkey album - which by the way, I found - at the East Nashville Goodwill a couple of month's back.

"Let Timmy Smoke" by Microwave Mountain

One of my favorite (among several) tracks from Shades Up by one of my favorite "new" Nashville bands.

"Lonesome Pine Special" by Pinmonkey

And completing the triple shot of Pinmonkey, we have this track taken from their debut album Speak No Evil - which was independently released earlier in 2002.

"This Town Gets Around" by Margo Price

As we await the new album from Margo Price, we got back to her breakthrough album Midwest Farmer's Daughter for this track.  Margo Price kind of reminds me of that singer, Alice who joined Jeremy Ivey on stage last week at The Basement... I can't put my finger on why that is...

"Hole in My Head" by Buddy Miller

We close things out with the legendary Buddy Miller and a track that goes all the way back to 1995 and his album Your Love and Other Lies. Besides his work as a musician, producer, and songwriter - Miller was the music producer for the 2nd and 3rd seasons of the television series Nashville.
