I don't have a ton of time, but I think we have a great Featured Friday Playlist this week. I little shorter than the past few weeks, but it is jammed back with some great music. Check it out and follow. Our recap begins below the jump with the first seven songs.
Featured Friday Songs 1-7
1. "Just Feels Right" by The Warner E. Hodges Band
We start off this week's playlist with the title track from the new album by The Warner E. Hodges Band with Dan Baird. This track starts off with some Scorchers worthy riffs and serves as an anthem for doing what you love.
2. "Our Finest Our" by Benchmarks
The new Benchmark's album Summer, Slowly is coming August 21. Right now, we have one of two new songs released ahead of that album. I first learned about Todd Farrell through Couch by Couchwest - I think, and he was among the first people I met when I started getting out to shows more and more. Exciting about this new music. It sounds great!
3. "Caroline" by Will Payne Harrison
Next up, we have a brand new single from Will Payne Harrison. This one is a cover of a song by the Louisiana band The Rayo Brothers. A wonderful song performed by one of my favorites.
4. "Greevil" by Year of October
Year of October are long-time E2TG favorites. Their new album Wastelands is not due until October (I have heard it and it is fantastic - their best work). This is the second single from that forthcoming album. I continue to be impressed by how hard this band works and how much they have grown musically since I first met them.
5. "I'm Not Going Down" by Jason Daniels Band
Former Nashville resident currently based in Jackson, Mississippi, the Jason Daniels Band brings a fresh spirit and a definite 1970s vibe. Their new album Downloads From the Universe was recorded in Jackson - to tape at Malaco Studios. I was introduced to their music via Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown. Really digging this new album which is out now.
6. "Up to No Good" by India Ramey
As we march towards the September 4 release of Shallow Grave, we have another single from the incredible India Ramey. I am glad I got to catch her residency at The 5 Spot back when I could go out to hear live music. I knew then, and I know now that she is a force to be reckoned with. I don't have any special talent to know who will "make it big" or who won't. But, I would not at all be surprised if the name India Ramey isn't on many people's lips when the album released. And, oh yeah, this is a killer song.
7. "Swing It Your Way" by James Hyland
A lively Western Swing number that tells a tale of the Women's Suffrage movement in Utah. The 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment is coming up on August 21. In 1870, Utah passed Women's Suffrage - the second U.S. territory to do so, but women in Utah voted two months before women in Wyoming meaning women in Utah were the first to cast their ballots. This early suffrage ended in 1887 with the Edmunds-Tucker Act. And it was restored with the ratification of the 19th Amendment. James Hyland is an Austin, Texas based singer-songwriter, and this song blew me away.
