E2TG 4/23/2021 - Featured Friday - Last Call Mix (Dirty Girl Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Time for another Featured Friday Playlist. This one is considerably shorter than last week's list, but it is crammed full of great new and recent music from old friends and new discoveries. As usual, the music crosses genre and geographic lines at will.  Please check it out. If so inclined, follow the playlist on Spotify. If you find music you like, support the artist(s)  by spending as you are able on music, merch, etc.  Spotify can be a great resource for sharing and discovering music but they do not sufficiently compensate artists for their work.

Featured Friday Playlist (Songs 1-10):

1. "Last Call" by Nick Nace
A brand new single from E2TG favorite Nick Nace. Nace played as part of our sixth anniversary residency.  This new song was recorded on a Tascam 24 tape recorder and it sounds amazing.
2. "Dirty Girl" by Afton Wolfe
Next up, we have the first single from the forthcoming Kings for Sale album from Afton Wolfe. The single is being released today because the number 23 kept popping up during production of the album. As a firm believer in coincidence and random occurrences, I support this decision. Great song, too!
3. "They Killed the Radio Cafe" by Mr. MPH
I played this one on Greetings from Nashville yesterday morning.  It is the second single from the brand new band featuring E2TG Band of Year members Ryan Sobb and Preston Cochran. The song is about the demise of the most recent incarnation of the fabled Radio Cafe. It speaks to me of the tendency of so-called progress to replace genuine and unique things with the mundane.
4. "I Can't Take It" by DeeOhGee
I also played this song on yesterday's GFN - the brand new single from the rebranded Blackfoot Gypsies. Since the name change, they have released a total of four songs - including a Christmas split single with The Smoking Flowers.  I believe I read that this song was written by bandmember Dylan Whitlow.
5. "Money Train" by Malcolm Holcombe
The one and only Malcolm Holcombe has a new album (Tricks of the Trade) due out in August. This is the first single from that album. The album was produced by Holcombe's long-time associate Jared Tyler (whose solo album we featured a couple of years back) along with Dave Roe and Brian Binkerhoff.  Jared Tyler's guitar can be heard on the track along with vocals by Mary Gautier and Jaime Harris. There is wonderful video for the track created by the multi-talented Emma Swift. You can see it HERE
6. "Atlanta Dog" by Volk
Next, we have the new single from Nashville duo Volk.  I have seen them live a few times, and I have always been blown away by them. I think this may be the first time I have featured them here.
7. "She's had enough" by Kitchn
Next up, we have the new single from another Nashville band. Kitchn. I was not familiar with them so thanks to Braden Land - who plays on the single - for the heads up.  Land's other band Falcon Ranchero has some new music set to drop very soon.
8. "Just Fine" by Tayls
Nashville's Tayls has been putting out new music consistently over the last year or so. Another fine new single from Taylor Cole and company.
9. "God Me Feelin' Like" by Livingmore
I am working on something special to celebrate ten years of E2TG and 10 shows of Ear to the Ground radio. Spencer Livingston of Livingmore used to be in a band called The Alternates who were one of the first band's we featured ten years ago.  He and Alex Moore have been Livingmore for several years now, and here is their latest single.
10. "Almost Mine" by Mare Wakefield & Nomad
The Nashville music community is small but there is still a ton of great music. I only recently "discovered" the music of Mare Wakefield & Nomad.  I featured an earlier song on yesterday's Greetings From Nashville. Here is a more recent single. Where have they been all my life?
