Uggg! A winter cold hit me hard yesterday afternoon, and I went down hill fast. I ended up staying in last night to rest up, and I feel a little better today but still kind of icky. Plus, it is a cold, wet, and dreary day in Nashville. So, I needed an extra good shuffle of music to get me through the commute. It is Friday, which we usually devote to Featured Friday. As I mentioned before, when I transferred music to my new phone, I lost my previous playlists. I haven't created a new Featured Friday playlist - still contemplating what that will look like. Anyway, since we missed Trending Tuesday this week, I am digging back into our Trending playlist of the newest of the new music we have to present.
Here goes!
"One Eye Blue" by Daniel Seymour, Mark Robinson
Nothing like some good old Cajun music to start things off. Especially, when that good old Cajun music comes via a new song by a couple of Indiana natives. It is from the album Chug It Down and Go by Daniel Seymour and Mark Robinson - one of my favorite albums - released late last year. The Cajun squeezebox is being played by the inimitable Michael Webb (who is from the Cajun stronghold of Kentucky).
"California's Burning" by Float Here Forever
Next up, we have the first of two songs in today's shuffle from Tour the Ruins - the recently released album by Detroit alt-rock, punk band Float Here Forever. The album was recorded by Dave Feeny known for his work with Jack White and White Stripes.
"The Afterlife" by Noctorum
Next, we have the title track from the new release by Noctorum - which features Marty Wilson-Piper (long time member of The Church) and Andy "Dare" Mason. Noctorum formed in 2002. This is their fourth release. I've been a fan of The Church and Marty Wilson-Piper for years, and I am enjoying this new music very much.
"Velvet Sky" by I Ya Toyah
Code Blue is the name of the new release by Toronto's I Ya Toyah. I have been digging this album. This is the final track on the album - and it is a strong album closer.
"Am I Gorgeous" by Auld
Mainstream Music - the debut album by six piece genre fluid London band Auld is set for release March 15. This is our first listen, and I am impressed. They had their album launch show earlier this week. I will have more to say in the future, but something I noticed on their Facebook page that impressed me was the inclusion of photos of negative feedback they received - presumably from places they submitted their music. Sadly, I do not have anything negative to say at this time to warrant inclusion in a future photo series.
"Dense" by Whispering Sons
Next up, we have our second listen (I think) to Image by Belgian post-punk band Whispering Sons. A nice dark touch on this gloomy day.
"Lavender Dream" by Christopher Sky
Also appropriate for the day, we have a kind of ethereal instrumental piece from composer/mult-instrumentalist/producer Christopher Sky - from Los Angeles. This is from his album Vastness.
"Cars Crashing" by Float Here Forever
Our second listen today from Tour the Ruins from Detroit rockers Float Here Forever. Heavy music but kind of cool heavy music.
"1997" by Holygram
And we close things out with another listen to Modern Cults from German post-punk/wave/shoegaze/Kraut rock band Holygram. The band is in the midst of a German tour in support of the album.
