Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Wonder Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed three - January - May 2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

E2TG May 2018 NEW

By  the way, it is time to vote.  Not talking political elections - although you should be informed, register, and vote every chance you get.  But, I am talking about The Best of Nashville 2018 Poll going on now at The Nashville Scene. Voting goes on through September 6.  Here's what you do:  Go HERE and followed the instructions.  You have to vote in at least 25 categories for your vote to count.  No need to "Submit" at the end, and you can leave the site and go back anytime to vote in more categories.

Here are a few suggestions:  The big one!  Last year, WXNA was voted Best Radio Station in Nashville - after just over one year on the air.  We would love to have your vote again this year.

Best DJ - I humble submit that you consider Joe and Sue of Double Shot (but truthfully any of the great WXNA DJs are deserving).

Best Blog - Hey you got to vote in 25 Categories - you might as well throw some love our way by voting for Ear to the Ground E2TG for Best Blog.

The week rolls on. We've reach the midway mark, and that means it is time to get "Wild" with our usually unusual "Wild Wednesday" shuffle. This shuffle comes from the collection of all the music currently saved to my phone.  It can and often does include new music, classic tunes, weird obscurities, and more of the usual nonsense (as my friend Paul Glavin of WXNA's Eargasm likes to say).

Let's shuffle!

"Wait on Me" by  Millar Jukes and the Bandits

First up, we have a track from Millar Jukes and the Bandits from their 2015 album Chase the Sun.  This is one we featured back when it came out. Millar Jukes is a Scottish born, Australian singer-songwriter in the Americana/Alt-Country/Folk vein of music. Great to hear and be reminded of this music again.  One reason I love "Wild Wednesdays" here at E2TG.

"Honky Tonkin' Fool" by Saint Luke's Drifters

Next up, we have a track from De Entre Los Muertos by the Middle Tennessee band Saint Luke's Drifters. The album was released in 2015.  E2TG connected with this band through our friend Mitch Laney.  Mitch's current project is Nashville Non-Prophets. The new band - continues and expands on the previous band's hard rocking country-flavored sound.

"Summer Babe" (Live) by Pavement

Next, we have a live version of the first song on the Slanted and Enchanted - the 1992 debut album by Pavement. The legendary band featured Stephen Malkmus and were among the most influential bands of the 1990s.  They reunited briefly in 2010.

"Dust" by Tim Henderson

Next up, we have the first of two tracks from the late singer-songwriter Tim Henderson from his massive Legacy Collection box set.  This is a track from the first volume - Gone to Texas.  A song that captures the feel of the dust bowl era very well.

"Hank, Karen, and Elvis" by The Young Fresh Fellows

Next we have a cheeky musical history from another legendary band - this Seattle's Young Fresh Fellows from their 1987 third album The Men Who Loved Music. Young Fresh Fellows is led by Scott McCaughey who you may also know from Minus 5, The Baseball Project, and from his years as a fifth member of R.E.M. McCaughey is well on the road to recovery from a stroke he suffered in November of 2017.

"Tired of Myself" by Adam Carroll and Michael O'Connor
"Rain" by Adam Carroll

Next up, we have two tracks in a row from the great Texas songwriter Adam Carroll. The first is a collaboration with singer-songwriter Michael O'Connor who is originally from Texas but currently based in Colorado.  It is from an album the two did together called Hard Times.  The second track is from an album I keep going back to - Old Town Rock n Roll.  Adam Carroll is one of the contemporary songwriters working today.

"Death's Door" by Depeche Mode

Next up, we have a track from legendary band Depeche Mode taken from the soundtrack to the Wim Wenders. We are making our way through that soundtrack at a pretty steady clip.

"Saturday Morning" by Bill and Colleen Cade

Next up, we have a really cool song. "Saturday Morning" is a very rare song written by the late Guy Clark. It is included on an album by Bill and Colleen Cade - a father daughter duo.  The album also includes a cover of a David Olney song. Tragically, Colleen Cade was killed in a traffic accident shortly after this album released. Bill Cade learned songwriting and guitar from Clark - who "gave" him this song with the instruction to start writing his own songs, too. It is a wonderful rendition of a wonderful song that many of even the biggest Guy Clark fans have never heard.

"You Cursed Me" by Dirty Basement Blues

Next, we have some solid blues from a band we featured quite a bit a couple of years ago. Dirty Basement Blues are from Michigan.  I'm not sure if it's the basement or the blues that are supposed to be dirty, but I kind of think it is both - in the best possible way.

"Don't It Make You Wonder" by Tim Henderson

Next, we have an inspirational track that closes the sixth and last Volume of the Legacy Collection from Tim Henderson.

"I Like The Way You Talk" by The Veldt (A.R. Kane Mix)

And we close things out with a new track from legendary shoegaze band - North Carolina's The Veldt.  We featured their music a couple of years back, and I had the pleasure to see them perform at Athens Pop Fest last year - where they blew everyone away on the opening night at the 40 Watt Club. This is a track from an album called Thanks to the Moth and Areanna Rose - this remix is done by another shoegaze legend - British duo - A.R. Kane. A great track to end my shuffle.
