All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

In case you missed it, Friday, we premiered a new song, "Gloria" by Nashville singer-songwriter Benjamin Jason Douglas from his album First World Blues which is being released this coming Friday. Check it out HERE !
Back to the shuffle. We have another Music City Monday shuffle- which comes from our Music City Monday Playlist on Spotify.
Let's get right to the shuffle!
"Chocolate Milk" by Microwave Mountain
We start off with a track from the latest release by one of my favorite Nashville bands of today - Microwave Mountain. The name of the album is Sick Licks. Microwave Mountain is led by Utah transplant, Jamie Timm - who will confound your notion of people of Utah. He is also one of the best people I know.
"Ghost on the Road" by Warner E. Hodges
At this point, I have been a fan of Warner Hodges and his music for approximately 63% of my life. I don't know what I did for that first 37 percent without knowing about his killer guitar playing. This is the first of two tracks today from Hodges' most recent solo album, Right Back Where I Started. I have been fortunate enough to see him playing with several different bands, and he always brings the heat.
"Gospel Plow" by Jason and the Scorchers
Next up, we have a track from the first band where I saw Warner Hodges play guitar. Nashville legends Jason and the Scorchers. This is their take on a traditional tune - taken from the compilation Wildfires and Misfires: Two Decades of Outtakes and Rarities.
"Automatic" by Justin and the Cosmics
Justin and the Cosmics have a new album called PERF which we will getting to very soon, but this one goes back a ways to their album Hangin' Out in My Body which was released a decade ago. Justin and the Cosmics are one of my favorite bands to see live, and their recent CD release show was a total blast and a half. Justin Collins is one of the most dynamic front persons around.
"Market Day" by Fats Kaplin
Next, we have the first of two tracks from the one and only Fats Kaplin. Kaplin is best known for his work backing a virtual who's who of musical greats (most recently John Prine). He is a wonderful songwriter and performer on his own. He plays recurring dates at The 5 Spot that are always a wonderful combination of musical acrobatics, magic tricks, and just plain fun. This is a track from his album The Fat Man Cometh which evokes the feeling of a Middle Eastern market.
"Microchip Girl" by Self
In my simplistic view of Nashville music history, I think of Self as the preeminent band of the second wave of Nashville rock music. This is a song from the 1997 album Half-Baked Serenade. Self was the primary recording project of Matt Mahaffey. Mahaffey formed Spongebath Records which was the center of much of the non-country music happening in Nashville in the second half of the 90s and beyond.
"Little Egypt" by Fats Kaplin
Next up, more Fats Kaplin - this from the Deluxe Edition CD Release of his first two solo albums - The Fat Man Cometh and World of Wonder. This one is inspired by the home area of Kaplin's wife - the talented singer-songwriter Kristi Rose. Rose is from Cairo, Illinois - an area affectionately known as Little Egypt. Fats draws a music line between the music of Egypt the country and tradition music of America.
"Rattlesnake" by Great Peacock
Next up, we have another track from Gran Pavo Real by Nashville band Great Peacock. Great Peacock will be playing Friday night at The Basement with E2TG favorite Darrin Bradbury. Check it out.
"Right Back Where I Started" by Warner E. Hodges
Our second listen to Warner E. Hodges today. This is the title track from his latest solo album.
"Throw Down Your Guns" by Andrew Adkins
We close things out with E2TG favorite Andrew Adkins with a track from his album To Become Immortal Then Die - which was released back in December. Check out the video playlist for a live recording of this song by Adkins' old band, The Colored Parade which was recorded at the late, lamented Logan's Black Raven Emporium - which was co-owned and operated by Robert Logue of Royal Court of China and The Shakers.
