Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Pretty Little Bow Mix

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed three - January - March 2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

E2TG January 2018
E2TG February 2018
E2TG March 2018
E2TG April 2018 (NEW!)

In case you missed it, last Friday, we premiered a new song, "Gloria" by Nashville singer-songwriter Benjamin Jason Douglas from his album First World Blues which is being released this coming Friday.  Check it out HERE !

Stumbling through the work week.  We have reached midpoint. Yes, it is Wednesday and that is the day we get "wild" at E2TG.  We shuffle up all of the songs in my phone's memory and see what comes up.  As usual, it is a mix of new and old.   Let's go!

"Italy" by Xeno and Oaklander

We start off with a track from Brooklyn based analog electronic duo. This goes back to their 2011 releases Sets and Lights.  I have to credit Chris Frantz of Talking Heads/Tom Tom Club for turning me on to this duo. Chris and his wife Tina Weymouth have worked with Xeno and Oaklander - under their Chris und Tina project. Their son Egan Frantz has also worked with Xeno and Oaklander.

"Red Bandanna Blues" by Adam Carroll

Thankful to Adam Dawson with Broken Jukebox for helping me fill in gaps in my Adam Carroll collection.  Carroll's music has been coming up for me quiet a bit recently, and that is a great reminder that he is one of the best contemporary songwriters around. His songs can be dead serious or funny as hell.  This track goes back a ways to his 2001 South of Town album. A live version was included on his 2006 Adam Carroll Live album.

"Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" by Yvette Landry and the Jukes

Next up, we have another track from Louisiana Lovin'.  This is a song written by Al Reed which was recorded by the great Ernie K. Doe among many others.  Here Yvette Landry and Roddie Romero give it their own touch.

"Man's Got a Problem/Stupid Man" by George Trouble

Next, another track from PLOW by George Trouble.  You may have heard this song on a recent Double Shot show.

"Pulling Your Sword Out of the Devil's Back" by Brock Zeman

The first time I saw Brock Zeman perform with his regular partner in crime Blair Hogan (The Bluebird Cafe in a round with David Olney, Will Kimbrough, and I believe Samantha Crain (but I may be conflated two different events). This was the track that really blew my mind in the best possible way. It was a great evening - seeing Hogan and Will Kimbrough trade guitar licks was worth the drive to Green Hills. This is the title track from Zeman's 2015 album which was his most recent at the time I saw the Bluebird show.

"Sons of the Dirt" by Shriekback

Next, we have more good stuff from the recent album by UK rockers Shriekback. Their new album is called Why Anything? Why This?  This album has impressed me very much.  A lot of bands from my formative years as a music fan are reuniting - but this is not an exercise in nostalgia. This is original music that is worth a listen even if you no nothing about Shriekback.

"Everybody's Watching" by Blackfoot Gypsies

I was relatively late getting on board with Blackfoot Gypsies - however, since first catching them live in 2014 - I have been a huge fan.  They are one of the most exciting bands on the Nashville scene. This is a track from their most recent album - To the Top - out of Plowboy Records. Their live shows are always fun, high energy affairs.  The band members are big supports of their fellow local artists and bands - when they are town, you can often find them taking in local bands and usually down at the front of the stage really getting into the music.
