All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

In case you missed it, last Friday, we premiered a new song, "Gloria" by Nashville singer-songwriter Benjamin Jason Douglas from his album First World Blues which is being released this coming Friday. Check it out HERE !
Last night, I was alerted to a last minute show add at The 5 Spot. It was a fun hang with some friends. On the bill was the one and only Booray, Bob Lewis, and Benjamin Jason Douglas (who's song "Gloria" we recently premiered. It's always a pleasure to see Booray, Bob Lewis is getting set to release an album - and he gets better every time I see him, and it was my first time seeing a full-band set from Ben Douglas - and he was incredible. Plus there were great sets from two "new to me" artists: Noah Jackson and Baby Velvetron.
Tonight, I will be heading back to The 5 Spot for a show that features the awesome Erica Blinn (you may recall we premiered a song for her a while back), a band called Wanderers, plus Patrick Kinsley and a Fistful of Dollars - plus a closing set (and live album recording) by Adrian + Meredith. You may recall Kinsley and Adrian + Meredith were on the bill for our 5th Anniversary show in May 2016.
Anyway, it is Thursday - and we dive back into the "New Music" playlist for our Trending Thursday shuffle.
Let's go!
"She Said, He Said" by Reckless Johnny Wales
Today's shuffle is bookended by two songs from Runaway Train of Thought by Reckless Johnny Wales. Kicking us off is this song written by Reckless Johnny during the 2016 Presidential Election. The song is a plea for us - as Americans and as humans to try to find someway to work together.
"You're the Coolest - Smile at the Mirror" by Ezra Bell
Next up, we have a track from the self-titled album by Portland, OR band Ezra Bell - which is led by songwriter Benjamin Wuamett."Jazz (for Dale and Donielle)" by Angie Aparo
"John the Baptist" by Angie Aparo
Next up, we have a natural Twofer Thursday from singer-songwriter Angie Aparo. Aparo is a successful songwriter who has had songs cut by Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and others. A few years ago, he suffered a debilitating stroke - his latest album Love is a Flower, Love is a Gun is his first release since he had the stroke. His strong songwriting on this album is presented with unique production - electronic music, sounds, and more enhance the music. Amazingly, he is able to recapture this sound nicely in a live setting. Both videos in the playlist below were recorded live at The Basement during a showcase that I attended earlier this year.
"SPM" by Jing Chi
Next up, we have another track from Supremo which has been coming up in the shuffle quite a bit lately. Jing Chi is a supergroup featuring guitarist Robben Ford, bassist Jimmy Haslip, and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta. I'm really digging the blues fusion sound of this collaboration between three well-known and respected musicians.
"The Dream" by Cup
We continue to showcase songs from the two most recent albums by Brooklyn rock band, Cup. This is from the earlier of the two album - Hiccup. I have been enjoying getting to know this band's music.
"Brooklyn's Broken! You Caught Me!" by Hologram Teen
Speaking of Brooklyn.... we have a song that references the most populous borough of New York City. Hologram Teen is a modern, vintage electronic project of Morgane Lhote of the group Stereolab. The album is called Between the Funk and the Fear.
"Beats All Day" by The Mouse Outfit (feat. Ellis Meade)
Manchester hip hop group - The Mouse Outfit are back in the shuffle with another track from their album Jagged Tooth Crook. Digging on this track which features - frequent collaborator Ellis Meade who is a hip hop artist also from Manchester.
"Forget About Yesterday" by Ajay Mathur
On this track from his album Little Boat - Indian born and Swiss-based singer-songwriter Ajay Mathur infuses his song with a touch of Zydeco flavor (I think). One of my favorite albums of the year - so far.
"Let It Storm" by Reckless Johnny Wales
And we close out - how we began - with another track from the latest album by Nashville's Reckless Johnny Wales. Sometimes you just have to welcome the tempest.
