Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - I'm Not Perfect Mix

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed three - January - March 2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

E2TG January 2018
E2TG February 2018
E2TG March 2018
E2TG April 2018 (NEW!)

In case you missed it, last Friday, we premiered a new song, "Gloria" by Nashville singer-songwriter Benjamin Jason Douglas from his album First World Blues which is being released this coming Friday.  Check it out HERE !

Back out to The 5 Spot last night to see three of Nashville's finest:  Erica Blinn and her killer band, Patrick Kinsley and a Fistful of Dollars, and Adrian + Meredith.  A solid night of music with some good hangs.

Well - for me at least - this week has flown by, and here it is Friday.  I'm just going to jump right into our final shuffle of the week - it is Featured Friday - where will shuffle up the "New Music" playlist to see what comes up.  Some of the songs today have been in the "New Music" list for some time, and MAYBE it is time for a refresh of that list, BUT these are all great songs - so who am I to complain?

Let's shuffle!

"Plastic Surgery" by Henry Metal

Nothing like the smell of metal in the morning.  We start us with a track from the late 2017 album, Metal O'Clock by prolific metal artist Henry Metal. Between April 2017 and February 2018, Henry Metal released seven albums plus a compilation.  Things have been silent since around February or March.  Not sure the current status of Henry Metal. But, this is the kind of thrash metal that I can dig.

"Carolina Blue" by Mark Huff

Next up, we have a track from the recent album Stars for Eyes by singer-songwriter Mark Huff - who divides time between Nashville and his native Las Vegas. This latest album finds Huff on the top of his game.

"Lions on the Sand" by Angie Aparo

After we featured two songs from Angie Aparo's Love is a Flower, Love is a Gun album yesterday, he is back in the shuffle with another song from that album today.  This is one of my favorite albums of the year. I dig this song quite a bit.

"Safe Haven" by Quinn Harley

Quinn Harley came to our attention as part of some of the bands surrounding The Foresters and their Dord Music Group record label.  Harley released this solo EP in late 2016 (I didn't realize it had been so long ago). They recently completed a summer composition program in Philadelphia and composed an original piece. They will be continuing their education this fall at SUNY Purchase in New York state. This is one of my favorite songs from the By the Pines EP - it really resonates with me.

"Replicate the Lightning" by Paul Terry

Paul Terry is the primary member of the band Cellarscape - whose music we have featured over the last couple of years. This is a track under his own name from the Bandcamp exlusive release Cellarscape and Filmscapes Vol. II.  This brief piece was taken from the Soundtrack to the film So Much Damage: How Image Comics Changed the World - a 2017 short documentary film.
"Start Living Again" by Ajay Mathur

Next up, we have another track from Little Boat by Ajay Mathur. Mathur makes truly global music with varied influences from American music.

"I'm Not the Only One" by Jon Magnusson
Swedish singer-songwriter Jon Magnusson has been an E2TG favorite for a few years now. This is a track from his Always a Rebel EP which came out earlier this year.  The prolific artist already has another release called  Acoustic Dreams.  We will have more from that soon.

"Not No Good" by Justin and the Cosmics

PERF is the latest release from Nashville's own Justin and the Cosmics.  The album - which was released over the summer (a killer release show!) was recorded live at Ardent Studios in Memphis.  The album was produced by the band along with Pat Sansone (Wilco, The Autumn Defense). Justin Collins is one of the most dynamic and exciting live performers in this town, but he also writes great songs.

"What Kind of World" by Mike Younger

We close things out with another Nashville songwriter, and one who unabashedly doesn't take the (obnoxious) suggestion to "shut up and sing".  In the tradition of folk music from Woody Guthrie, Dave Van Ronk and more - Mike Younger speaks out and sings about what is important to him. Including this song about making the world a better place - or losing it all to greed and corruption. This is from his album Little Folks Like You and Me - which was released a little over one year ago.
