All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed three - January - March 2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

E2TG April 2018 (NEW!)

In case you missed it, Friday, we premiered a new song, "Gloria" by Nashville singer-songwriter Benjamin Jason Douglas from his album First World Blues which is being released this coming Friday.  Check it out HERE !

Last night, I kind of bounced around a little.  I got to see Jon Latham, Don Gallardo, Darrin Bradbury, Ryan Sobb, and others at a tribute to Big Star, Replacements, and R.E.M at Basement East.  Some takeaways, I really dug William Matheny and his band's opening set of originals (they also - along with Robbie Crowell - provided the backing band for the rest of the night.  Don Gallardo and Jon Latham are awesome always.  I love all Darrin Bradbury's but punk rock Darrin Bradbury is tops in my book. Ryan Sobb is someone to watch. I left Basement East a little early and headed to Dee's for Madison Guild Monday in time to catch a young singer-songwriter I recently met.  Bobby Corbin has a great voice and writes really good songs.  Check him out if you see him around town.

Time for a Trending Tuesday shuffle - let's just get right to it!

"I Almost Lost My Mind" by Yvette Landry and the Jukes

We start things off with the first of two tracks from Louisiana Lovin' - Yvette Landry and the Jukes (which includes Roddie Romero) tribute to Louisiana juke joints.  First up is a cover of a song written by Ivory Joe Hunter which has been recorded by many people including south Louisiana band Cookie and the Cupcakes.

"Goin' Deep" by George Trouble

Next up, we have another track from PLOW by North Carolina singer-songwriter George Trouble.  Here, Trouble, tells us all about the Carolina girls one might meet on a beach along the outer banks.

"Parrot of a Pirate" by Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers

Nashville's Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers are thinking ahead and recruiting their next generation of listeners. Their latest album is a children's album called, If You Want to Be a Pirate.  This is the first of two tracks in our shuffle from that recent release. It is about a new family pet with a colorful past and a salty tongue.

"Oh Jane" by Don Gallardo

Speaking of Don Gallardo - as I was earlier - we have another fantastic track from his most recent album Still Here. This track which was released as a single ahead of the release of the album features guest appearances by Dave Roe, Bryan Owings, Brent Mason, Joe Andrews (Old Crow Medicine Show), Micah Hulscher (Margo Price), plus Gallardo's regular bandmates Clint Maine and Travis Stock.  Gallardo is one of my favorite local songwriters and favorite people.

"Three Chords and the Truth" by Yvette Landry and the Jukes

Next up, one of the newer covers and few non-Louisiana connected songs on the Louisiana Lovin' album. This is a cover of a 1997 release by country singer Sara Evans. It was the title track to her album that year - which was produced by Pete Anderson. The song, as performed by Landry and her band, does not sound out of place of this album.

"If You Want to Be a Pirate" by Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers

Next up, we have the title track from the new Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers album.  It is an instruction manual for young would-be buccaneers.

"You Can't Relive the Past" by Eric Andersen (feat. Lou Reed)

Next up, we have the (maybe) unlikely collaboration of Eric Andersen and the late Lou Reed. This is the title track of Andersen's 2000 album that also features a few songs co-written by Andersen and Townes Van Zandt. While, pairing Eric Andersen with Lou Reed might have been considered unusual - the result is a great song. I continue to be impressed by this career-spanning collection that has helped me to fully appreciate the great songwriter -  Eric Andersen.  Lou sounds great here, too.

"You're Funky (Blankets for Funk)" by The Velveteen Jumping Bean

We close with over five minutes of funk The Velveteen Jumping Bean and their album We're Here for a Good Reason.  The album which was released in 2016 - was introduced to me as a lost Discount Ravioli album - indeed it is available on the Discount Ravioli bandcamp page. This is the only track today not found on YouTube so I picked a Discount Ravioli track for the video playlist.  This is about as funky as four??? white kids from Connecticut can get. It's funkier than you might think. See for yourself below:
