All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

I said on Friday that last week was the last full week of shuffles in August - I guess technically since Friday is the 31st, this may be the last full work week in August, however, I do have a training out of the office on Thursday which will likely mean no shuffle that day, so technically, I was correct.
In any event, it is a new week, and time for another Music City Monday. Music City Monday shuffles come from an ever-expanding Spotify playlist dedicated to music from Nashville's past and present.
Let's just get right to it.
"Almsgiver" by Glossary
We start things off with Glossary from their 2007 album, The Better Angels of Our Nature. Glossary formed in 1997 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The band's line-up has changes over the years, with Joey Kneiser and Bingham Barnes being the only constant members from the beginning.
"Can't Find My Way Home" by Stuffy Shmitt
Stuffy Shmitt is a New York City transplant to Nashville - one of several in recent years, and also one of the most talented and most unique. This is taken from a 2012 release called Twelve Songs. He previously released this song on Other People's Stuff which came out it 2003. This is a cover of a Steve Winwood song that was first recorded by Blind Faith. Coincidentally, Steve Winwood eventually moved to Nashville.
"Is This All There Is?" by Webb Wilder
Next up, we have the first of two tracks from the recently release compilation of outtakes and rarities from the "Last of the Full-Grown Men" Webb Wilder. The album is called Powerful Stuff. This is an alternate take on a song from Wilder's debut album, It Came From Nashville.
"Lying Through Your Teeth" by Blackfoot Gypsies
Next up, we have another track from To the Top - by Blackfoot Gypsies. Blackfoot Gypsies are wonderful ambassadors for Nashville's alternative music scene. Their energy and talent and passion for Nashville (and other) music shine through. Their live shows are celebrations - if you watch a Blackfoot Gypsies show and stay sitting with your arms folded - someone probably needs to check your pulse.
"Animal Lover" by Webb Wilder
Next, we have another track from Powerful Stuff. This is, I believe, a first release of popular song from Wilder's live shows. Written by Webb Wilder's frequent partner in crime - the great R.S. Field. The song features some genuinely funny lyrics and that classic Webb Wilder sound.
"Heavy Weather" by Derek Hoke
Next up, East Nashville favorite, Derek Hoke with another from his excellent and most recent album Bring the Flood. I got to thinking about the people - through the years - who have made Nashville's music community one of the best in the world - through the music, their championing of the scene, and their positive presence. Derek Hoke is a prime example of that - in my opinion.
"The Drowsy Surgeon" by Joe Fletcher and the Wrong Reasons
I would like-wise put Joe Fletcher in that category as well. Most recently, Fletcher has been recording with the band Hotel Ten Eyes. This one goes back a few years to his album White Lighter with his band The Wrong Reasons. I just had a memory come up on Facebook from three years ago - of Joe Fletcher, Brian Wright, Aaron Lee Tasjan, and Margo Price singing a Velvet Underground song at The 5 Spot one early show.
"Pedal Tavern Girl" by Bill Lloyd
Absolutely no discussion of Nashville music over the past thirty or so years would be complete without a significant amount of words devoted to Bill Lloyd. Since moving to Nashville from his native Bowling Green - Lloyd has been an important and vital part of the Nashville community. With his unique style of power pop, I have been a fan since before his album Feeling the Elephant. I have followed him from his country pop days with Foster and Lloyd to working with some of the best songwriters of our age. His latest album It's Happening Now is a great way to catch up or catch hold of Bill Lloyd's music. This is a single from the album - a humorous take on a ubiquitous sight in the "new Nashville" pedal taverns filled with bachelorettes.
