"Kids These Days" by Adrian + Meredith
News of a new single from Adrian + Meredith is always a cause for celebration, and this new single does not disappoint in the slightest. Bringing together spirited roots music, clogging, and some of the best musicians in Nashville - this one hits all the right notes for me. Guests on this track include: Mark Robertson, Aaron Shafer-Haiss, Paul Niehaus, Ken Wenzel, Diego Garcia, Robert Gay plus Kristi Rose and Fats Kaplin. Wow!
"M-I-LL-E-R Lite" by Adam Kurtz
Adam Kurtz has become almost a fixture here on E2TG. Between his solo albums and singles and his collaboration albums with Cameron Carrus, he has released quite a bit of music in 2020. His latest single pays homage to his favorite beverage. The song is great! I am not a big fan of the beer, but hey - to each his own.
"Halfway Home" by Ben Arthur
Ben Arthur has released another single. As I have written before, Arthur has released a couple of albums of response songs, and his podcast Song/Writer is based upon the idea of songwriters writing songs in response to other written works. Although not all of his recent singles are response songs, this one is. It was written as a response to the play"Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven" by Stephen Adly Guirgis.
"The Times" by Austin Lucas
Austin Lucas has been a favorite of mine since I first got into his music (I was admittedly a little late to the game), but while I have loved all of his music, I have to say that with his latest two singles - we featured "Already Dead" a few weeks back - he has emerged as one of the most important voices of our times. "The Times" is a beautiful song. One of Lucas' strengths in my book has always been his unique and emotive voice and really enhances the weight of the lyrics. On this track, I believe I detected a change in his vocal delivery or sound - and whatever it is, I dig it.
"Mixed Use" by 4Track All-Stars (feat. Ray Benson)
This may be one of the more interesting tracks we have played here - which I think is saying a lot. 4Track All-Stars is a band led by Jay Reynolds. 5123 is the second album by the band. The album name refers to the area codes of Cincinnati (513) and Austin, Texas (512) - which is the home of the collaborators on this project. There is far too much going on here for me to cover in this space. I highly recommend you check it out. This track features the rich voice of Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel) put to great effect.
"Dance Alone" by Pelvis Wrestley
Speaking of Austin and something really unique.... up next, we have a track from the debut album from the band who inform their brand of baroque pop with a classic country music sensibility. This is wonderful stuff.
"Y.G.I." by Trez Bell
Excited to add the latest single from Trez Bell to the Playlist. Bell has been a long-time collaborator of our old friend Hayden "THC" Coleman. This is the first release on the newly formed Gvngaroo Records. Wonderful stuff - and the team behind this have been killing the game as the kids say (I think that is what they say...)
"Wildhorse Dream" by Malin Pettersen
It seems like I have been calling out Norway quite a bit lately, and the connection between the Nordic nation and Music City has been growing stronger all the time. I think of my Norwegian friends who in a normal year would be here right now for Americana Fest. Malin Pettersen has deep ties to Nashville - including an Americana showcase a couple of years ago. This is the (sort of) title track to her upcoming Wildhorse album which was recorded here in Nashville with some top local talent. I love this song a lot.
