I am optimistic. Now, I have no idea how the election is going to turn out, and I have no idea when the pandemic will really be over or what life will love like when it is. I don't know how we will heal the division and hatred and fear that divides our nation, or how (or even if) we will deal with the bigotry which has been emboldened in recent years under a so-called leader to has done the emboldening. Nevertheless, I am optimistic.
I see a lot of good people who are united not by a common ideology or a singular political philosophy, but who are united against fascism and hatred and bigotry of all kinds. I see brilliant, compassionate, and creative people who are finding new ways of doing things and who are taking care of one another.
No doubt, the road ahead is difficult and uncertain, but I am optimistic- not that the path ahead is perfect or easy, but that we will continue marching down that road toward a brighter future.
This week's Featured Friday Playlist is a bit longer than previous weeks, so I decided to start with the first 10 songs for today's post. You can find the recap - below the jump

New Jersey singer-songwriter Don Ryan holds a singular place in E2TG lore. I first became aware of his music during the first year of our existence. His song and video Tangle Town blew me away. He is also the person who turned me on to Big Wilson River - which was my first introduction to Darrin Bradbury. Ryan and his band just released the second part of his Warwalking series, and this is the lead track. I have heard (and maybe featured) this song in the past. Ryan's voice - which I have always loved is sounding better than ever, and the music is fantastic.
"Plane Crash Flirtation" by Ben Arthur
After featuring several singles, Arthur's new album Collision is out now, and I am reminded why he is one of my favorites. Arthur history with E2TG doesn't quite go back as far as Don Ryan, but almost. The connections between Ben Arthur and other E2TG favorites is like a spider web.
"Even" by Adrian + Meredith
I actually don't be see Adrian and Meredith this week! The duo - who often expand into a band of various sizes - just released their timely new single. Like many people, Adrian + Meredith have an album in the can and they are waiting for a better time to release it. In the meantime, I am happy to have this new material.
"In My Head" by Jeff Thorneycroft
This is a true story - the first time, I saw Jeff Thorneycroft perform - was with Tom Mason & the Blue Buccaneers - the East Nashville pirate band.. When Mason introduced the band, I though Thorneycroft was a made-up pirate name. Turns out, it is really his name -and in addition to his work backing up not only Mason but many other artists (including recently being part of the reformed The Rembrandts line-up), Jeff Thorneycroft is an artist in his own right. He has performed around with The Jeff Thorneycroft Band, and he has a new single - which is fantastic.
"Drive" by Austin Lucas
Next up, we have the next new single from Indiana native (and former Nashville resident) Austin Lucas. Flat out one of my favorite songwriters.
"Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)" by Devon Gilfillian
The second release from Gilfillian's cover of Marvin Gaye's classic album - this is the final song on the album. The music is great, and it is a top notch cover, but it is very sad that this song and the album - which are almost 50 years old - are still relevant today. I hope, sometime in my lifetime, that this album will be a time capsule of a different time.
"Tin Foil Hat" by Victims of The New Math
We just recently featured the single "I Saw a U.F.O." by what is essentially the solo project of Thomas Young of Phoenix, Arizona. The EP Moon Man was released last week, and I guess you could say, I am a fan of the band now.
"Mama, I'm Coming Home" by Tayls (feat. Emma Hoeflinger)
For the last several months, we have been featuring a series of cover songs by the Nashville band Tayls - led by Taylor Cole. Many of these covers have been done in collaboration with other bands and artists. Tayls just released Kwar in Teens: a Cover Collection - which compiles those covers and some others we haven't featured yet - including this Ozzy Osborne cover featuring Emma Hoeflinger of the band Oginalii - who have their own new release out next week.
"I'ma Be Me" by Cordovas
Destiny Hotel - the new album by Cordovas is out now, and we have one of my favorite Cordovas songs ever - in this week's shuffle. I love this band, and I can't wait for the chance to see them live again.
"Wish I Were a Dog" by Buckle Bunny
And we close this segment of music with a track from the new EP by Birmingham based Buckle Bunny. We previously featured their Lizard Brain single. The band includes E2TG favorite - and Band of the Year member Ryan Sobb. Oh and a new Ryan Sobb single is forthcoming.
