It is Friday, and I am short on time so let's get right to it. Before we get to our brand new Featured Friday Playlist, we have a couple of new releases to mention. Both of these releases are out on Devil's Tower Records and available on the Devil's Tower Records Bandcamp page. Both are live recordings, recorded at the same show last Halloween. The Smoking Flowers host an annual Halloween show at The 5 Spot as a benefit. I have been to a few - including the show where these releases were recorded. Since, the show cannot go on this year, they decided to release these as a consolation. Check them out.
The first features the temporary band SHAMONES doing Michael Jackson covers in the style of The Ramones. The second features a set from The Smoking Flowers themselves doing some choice covers. I have listened and they are high quality recordings (as most of the "live from The 5 Spot" recordings are) - so please check them out!
This week's Featured Friday Playlist is jam-packed with great music. I think it is the same number of songs as last week but it clocks in at about fifteen more minutes of music. Our recap starts below the jump...

Featured Friday Playlist (Songs 1-10)
"The Real John Law of the Valley" by Ryan Sobb and the Dead Mall
We start off with a brand new song from reigning E2TG Band of the Year - Ryan Sobb and the Dead Mall. Sobb is one of my favorite writers, and I am constantly amazed at how he keeps topping himself.
"Mommy and Daddy" by Stuffy Shmitt
Next up, we have the third single from Stuffy Shmitt's upcoming Stuff Happens album. His songs have a remarkable ability to move me emotionally, and this song is one of his best at that. Anyone who only knows Stuffy from his off-stage antics is ill-prepared for the emotional impact of his songs. I know I was the first time I heard him perform. There is one more single due out before the album's December 4 release date.
"All I Want to Do Is Dance the Night Away" by Deena
Our friend Deena is back with a couple of new songs - released together as Some Days, and we have one of them in the Playlist today. We first featured Deena (who was a member of the popular New Jersey band The Cucumbers) back in 2014 and most recently we heard from her as part of the Campfire Flies. Both of her new songs were recorded with The Poor Man's Opera - a favorite local bar band of hers.
"Birmingham Woman" by Paul Nelson
I tuned in the other night to the release show stream for Paul Nelson's Birmingham Woman album - it was fantastic. I have been anticipating this release since we featured a couple of the earlier singles. This is the title track - which I fell in love with on the livestream. The album is out on Devil's Tower Records - just like the two live albums mentioned earlier.
"Birmingham" by Becky Warren
Okay - so the placement of the songs was intentional but otherwise this is coincidental. Becky Warren's new album The Sick Season is out now. We have featured a couple of the pre-release singles from this one. Warren is a wonderful writer whose songs are so honest - whether they are her story or someone else's.
"Can't Remember to Forget You" by Strange Majik
Strange Majik (aka David Pattillo) has been a part of the E2TG family since almost the beginning. His band The Dead-Exs were our Band of the Week - the first week of our second year. His latest single is a groovy, funky affair. Really cool!
"Ain't Got a Dollar" by Rodney Rice
Up next, we have our first listen and the second album from Colorado-based singer-songwriter Rodney Rice. His SAME SHIrT, DIFFERENT DAY album contains twelve excellent songs. Rice is the only E2TG newcomer in the first ten songs of this week's playlist.
"Love Always Wins" by Steve Conn
Nashville based artist Steve Conn is perhaps best known for his long association with Sonny Landreth, but as we learned when we covered his Flesh and Bone album last year, he is an amazing songwriter in his own right. Conn just released this new single inspired by and offered as a balm to the difficult and divisive times in which we live.
"Existential Dread Machine" by Micah Schnabel
Two Cow Garage frontman, Micah Schnabel doesn't pull any punches in his powerful and emotionally-packed solo songs. The latest - also inspired by current events - speaks to feelings many of have experienced since March.
"Eyes Be Healed" by Justin Farren
I met Sacramento-based singer-songwriter last year when he kicked off a tour with fellow Kerrville winner Aaron Smith at Tennessee Brew Works. I really dug his songs, and so I was thrilled when his new album (his fourth) Pretty Free came my way. I am just now digging deeper into the songs, and it sounds great. This is the second track on the album.
