Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Six Elephants Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Okay!  I loaded a bunch of new songs into the playlist last night.  I think only one song made it into today's shuffle - but expect some awesome new music coming up.  In the meantime, we have some awesome music that we have been featuring.  I have to make it quick today - so get ready!

"Apocalypse Shimmy" by Bark

I have a long fascination with the end of the world. In fact, I once wrote a short story called Dancing at the End of the World.  For all I know, my characters may have been doing the Apocalypse Shimmy.  This is our second listen to the new album from E2TG Favorites, Bark - called Terminal Everything.  The album was made as a reaction to a year of loss - but it is not somber album - rather it is a celebration of life in the aftermath of loss.

"A Beautiful Light" by Rod Picott

For some reason, I think I featured this song already (I normally delete songs from my phone once I feature them), but if that is the case, I have no problem with featuring this song again (if I did).  It is a stunningly powerful statement of finding beauty in the everyday without idealizing or sugar-coating the hard lives that many of us live.  Rod Picott is an amazing songwriter, and Tell the Truth and Shame the Devil is a remarkable album.

"Beyond Belief" by Rat Fancy

Next up, we have another track from Stay Cool - the debut full-length album by California twee punk band Rat Fancy. I dig the energy and the sound of this album.  Most excellent.

"Teach Yourself" by SPC ECO

It seems like we have been featuring Fifteen for a while - in fact, the album was released back in February. SPC ECO features Dean Garcia (Curve) along with his daughter Rose Berlin - they formed as a group in 2008. They collaborated with a number of other musicians on this album. I am digging it.

"You Best Think Twice" by Tim Gartland

Next, we have the first of two tracks today from blues harp player Tim Gartland from his album Satisfied. The album was produced by Kevin Mckendree and features musicians with a long list of credits.  The songs were all written or co-written by Gartland. Gartland has been  a vital part of the blues scenes in Chicago and Boston prior to moving to Nashville in 2015.

"Mannish Boy" by Mrs. Henry

Next up, we have some Muddy Waters via The Band's Last Waltz - by way of California band Mrs. Henry from their tribute to the legendary concert/film.  The song is an arrangement of and an answer to Bo Diddley's "I'm a Man" which was inspired by "Hootchie Cootchie Man" written by Muddy Waters and Willie Dixon.

"Blues for Free" by Tim Gartland

One more from Satisfied. Closing out a nice like blues run in today's shuffle.

"Wet Host" by Gerbils

It has been a while since the Elephant Six collective has released music under their label, but that is about to change.  First up, they are reissuing the debut album by indie rock band The Gerbils.  The Gerbils formed in Ruston, Louisiana in 1998 and features Scott Spillane and Jeremy Barnes of Neutral Milk Hotel (a mainstay of Elephant Six). Our young friends from Connecticut (The Foresters, Batkhi Dahn, Discount Ravioli, etc.) were highly influenced by the Elephant Six bands. You can particularly recognize that influence on this track with a noise heavy track.
