*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.
Fun show at The Basement last night. Nashville's Sad Baxter opened - we have featured them several times on Music City Monday.
Followed by Summer Cannibals from Portland, Oregon - led by my cousin Jessica Boudreaux.
Both high energy, rocking sets.
Well, this is it! Last shuffle before I take a bit of break. Look for a post on Monday (if all goes as expected).
Next weekend, I am off to Muddy Roots and hope to have some cool stuff to share about that experience.
Now, here is a Featured Friday shuffle to close things out!
"Down Below" by Benny Bassett
Be start out with our penultimate track to feature from Words for Yesterday by New Mexico based acoustic rocker Benny Bassett. This track is a about relationship gone wrong. Great song!
"Oi Oi" by Dizraeli
Next up, we have the first of two tracks in the shuffle from UK artist Dizraeli from his forthcoming album The Unmaster (due out September 20) - this album is a very interesting and wonderful mix of words, sounds, and music - really cool stuff!
"Morning Waltz" by Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster
We also had two tracks in the shuffle from Take Heart Take Care by Arkansas based singer-songwriter Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster. This is a lovely instrumental.
"Fata Morgana" by Golden Ghost
Speaking of lovely - I have really been enjoying The Big Sleep: Future by Golden Ghost. It is part of a set of albums The Big Sleep. Golden Ghost is the recording project of Laura Goetz. The title of the song is from a complex type of mirage - considered fairy castles in the air.
"Ready to Connect" by Sluka
Next up, we have a first listen to a single by a four-piece band out of San Diego - led by Christopher Sluka. Cool song.
"Cinema" by Ring Ring Rouge
Next up, we have another first listen - this to the new album (out today) called Talking in Installments by Lancashire, England based Ring Ring Rouge. The promo information I received said, "If Modest Mouse were from Lancashire, England they'd sound like Ring Ring Rouge". I will let you decide if you agree with that, but I do dig this music and can't wait to hear more.
"Poor Relations" by Justin Peter Kinkel-Schuster
Track number 2 of the shuffle from Take Heart Take Care. I was not familiar with Water Liars - so my first exposure to Kinkel-Schuster was through his collaboration with Will Johnson (Marie /Lepanto - which I love). I am digging this album, and it makes me want to go back and find out what I've missed so far.
"Another Sunday Morning" by Reckless Johnny Wales
"You Were Meant to Be Loved" by Reckless Johnny Wales
Next up, two in a row from End It With a Love Song by Nashville's own Reckless Johnny Wales. The first track - a kind of homage/follow-up to Sunday Morning Coming Down - is about dealing with the current unpleasantness by staying in bed - with a little kitty pile. The second song is a wonderful sentiment that we all need hear at one time or another.
"I'm a Wave (Part One)" by Dizraeli
Track 2 for today from The Unmaster.
"Cold Day in Memphis" by Renee Wahl and the Sworn Secrets
Next up, we have a favorite track of mine from Cut to the Bone - about being in Memphis with the "Killer" himslef Jerry Lee Lewis. Renee is one of my favorite local artists.
"Placebo Doctrine" by Ben Arthur
Next, we gear up for our September 25 opening show of the E2TG 8th Anniversary Residency - with a track from the forthcoming album Perspective by Ben Arthur. Be sure to catch Ben along with Conrad y Skordalia on September 25 at The 5 Spot. It is the early show - so we will get you in and out and ready for bed or your next show.
"F-Talking" by Ummagma
We close things out for the week with a track from their next album Compass. Ummagma - you might recall is the Canadian/Ukrainian duo that formed in Moscow in 2003. A great way to end the week and get me ready for a vacation.
