All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

Last night, I made it out to Madison Guild Monday for the first time in a while. Such a fun event - always hosted by a songwriter - last night it was Nick Nace. I was late and missed Sean Quinn and some others, but I did get to see Chris Moyse, J.R. Wyatt, Nick Nace, and Jon Latham. Plus, I got a chance to hang with some wonderful people. It was Kristen Englenz's birthday, and I figured out it was my half birthday.
Well, yesterday was Music City Monday, but as we head into Trending Tuesday, we have a very heavily Music City-centric shuffle. Let's just get to it!
"The Crown and the Confidant" by Palm Ghosts
Sometimes, in writing E2TG, world's collide in most interesting ways. Shameless Promotion PR is based in London and has become one of my favorite sources for new music. I always get a stunning variety of music from all over the world - including new projects from artists I have been following for decades. So, imagine my surprise when I got an e-mail from Shauna at Shameless and started reading to find out it was a Nashville-based band called Palm Ghosts - only to realize the band includes a couple of friends Joseph Lekkas of Flour Sack Cape and Benjamin Douglas (whose own album is due soon - stay tuned here for more on that). Palm Ghosts formed in Philadelphia - where Lekkas is from. Their music does not sound like Nashville (whatever the hell that means). It is rich and complex - indie, new wave, gothic and more swirl in the highly original mix. The album is called Architecture. Check it out!
"Till I Can Make It On My Own" by Jon Byrd
We have made out way through Jon Byrd's latest album Dirty Old River. Our last song to feature is a cover of a Tammy Wynette song - co-written by Wynette with Billy Sherrill and George Richey. Byrd - as he does - makes it his own. Dirty Old River is a great album - added to a discography of great albums by one of Nashville's finest.
"Michigan Mansion" by Rayvon Pettis
Keeping the Nashville theme going, we have one of my favorite tracks from Dying Light - by E2TG Artist of the Year Rayvon Pettis. It is the first of two in today's shuffle from the album. I was so thrilled to have Pettis be a part of the E2TG Anniversary show last month.
"Same Ol' Alley Talkin' Blues #12" by Don Gallardo
Even more of Nashville's finest. We have another track from Still Here by Don Gallardo. This story-song stands out on an album of great songs. It was wonderful hearing it this morning.
"3-Twenty Seven" by Umbrella Bed
A quick break from Nashville-related tracks - we have a ska instrumental from Umbrella Bed out of Minneapolis. This is from their album Rotate.
"Hosanna" by Rayvon Pettis
Next, we have our second track from Rayvon Pettis and his Dying Light album.
"Hologram Teen and Brasil 666" by Hologram Teen
We move off from Nashville one final time with a track from Between the Fear and the Funk. Hologram Teen is an electronic music project from L.A. featuring Morgane Lhote of Stereolab. The song title references the band that backed Sergio Mendes - Brasil '66."I Will Always Resist" by Reckless Johnny Wales
We return to Nashville to close out today's shuffle. Reckless Johnny's new album Runaway Train of Thought does not shy away from addressing timely subjects - in a wholly Reckless Johnny kind of way. Reckless Johnny Wales in an E2TG favorite, and this may be his best album yet. Resistance is not futile.
